welchol

Avatar f tn s complications such as pancreatic insufficiency, for which I take Creon enzymes with each meal, and Colesevelam for bile salts. We cannot prescribe any drugs as a lot of them are toxic, and can only be prescribed by a Gastroenterologist. I would suggest you have a consultation with your own gastro and heed his advice - they are the experts, not us! Take care, Liz.
Avatar n tn 'I've battled high cholesterol for a number of years and can't find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing.
Avatar n tn I have apparently had IBS for about 4 years now. Im in my early 20's and it seems to be getting gradually worse. I have just started taking dicitel, which seems to help only a little bit. I was diagnosed with IBS just by being questioned by my doctor. Does anyone know how accurate a diagnosis is without any tests? Does anyone know what tests are the most useful or what ones I should ask for?
Avatar f tn Nevagayle, there are a number of drugs in the same class as nulev that have been used by a lot of people for IBS very successfully. It just depends on the person. Give it a try and see if it works for your body specifically.
140029 tn?1393298142 I take 15mg Lexapro for my anxiety, was diagnosed with PI IBS in November. It helps me out some, definitely helps keep me calmer during flare ups. I think going gluten free has helped me out the most though. I think you just gotta find the right medication/diet that works for you though, which just comes down to trail and error on what foods you eat. I think finding something to help with your anxiety is a good idea though, because like everyone has said, anxiety and ibs go hand in hand.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response. You mention better meds for the diarrhea. Do you have any prescription names you could give me. I am due to go back to my doctor soon. Maybe I could suggest these to her. I am really having problems with the diarrhea. It isn't safe for me to go away anywhere.
Avatar m tn Blood test is the way to go not urine as you look for the antibodies and if really positive you should be positive for a while, but I doubt you have/had syphilis.
Avatar n tn I have suffered from IBS/constipation for 15 years. I have tried every over the counter med possible, I have been prescribed medications, I have tried accupuncture, massages, changed diet, and currently I have a colonix once a week. I get so backed up that my stomach swells up to two inches. I am told the reason I am so constipated is because I have no muscle control in my colon. A highly recommended specialist from UAB, formerly from the Mayo Clinic, said I had two options. 1.
446049 tn?1649005835 A friend of a friend who had (IBS) chronic diarreah and her doctor started her on Cholestyramine which she got in packets and mixed with juice to drink. After a week her diarreah was gone and now has been gone for a little over 3 months. I know that it's prescribed for cholesterol issues, but it also has stopped her constant diarreah. The strange thing is her gastro doctor prescribed it and her cholesterol levels have always been fine.

520691 tn?1213961844 October 2007 I was tested for PCOS and IBS, I have had blood tests when I am on my period and when I am not, I have also had a stool test, ultrasound and a pelvic scan but I have not yet had a final diagnosis. I was wondering if anyone has had the same symptoms because I have to wait til June10th to find out what is wrong, that is if they know. I have Mebeverine tables BP 135mg for stomach cramps/pains, and I have Loperamide Hydrochloride 2mg Capsules for diarrhea.

Avatar m tn I am able to work out and lead a pretty normal life, but the pain is starting to affect me mentally as well. The doctors basically tell me I have IBS, but I cannot believe that IBS would be this chronic.
215234 tn?1305142961 I've had this exact same "catching rib" problem for years, no answers medically until now - never really taken seriously & I often got the impression my usual Dr thought me a bit mad for asking - she's not living with it of course - hmm Anyway, new Dr as my usual one is on leave - tests me for H.
456333 tn?1206973213 Just wondering if any of you have tried magnesium oxide or citrate for your constipation issues? It has totally cured my IBS-C, I still have IBS but at least I'm not constipated anymore! Since I started taking magnesium supplements I have had a BM pretty much every day for months. It is such a simple solution but one worth trying for any of you who suffer. Its non-addictive unlike laxatives, it is simply a supplement that most sources say we are very deficient in.
Avatar m tn I also took Xifaxan simultaneously for the IBS 500 mg 3 times daily for 10 days. The Cipro seemed to help the joint pain but the two compounded the GI symptoms. I started having allergic type reactions to every food I ate, presumably an immune response to increased permeability associated with gut irritation. After I finished the Cipro, the joint pain returned along with some mild urethral irritation. I am allergic to Flagyl, so from what I've read my next option will be doxycycline.
Avatar f tn One thing purported to help is chewing on fennel seeds. Doesn't work for me, because it aggravates my GERD, but if IBS is all you're dealing with chewing on fennel seeds or drinking ginger root tea (decoction method) are purported to help. One thing that I've read about is simply drinking hot water (like you make for your tea but with nothing added to it). The theory is that the heat itself helps to soothe the colon.
Avatar n tn What is a stool color? Whitish, yellowish, greenish..? Foul smelling stool appears (among other in) - fat malabsorption (whitish stool) - fecal fat test confirms fats in the stool - parasite infection due to food or water poisoning - ova % parasites tests confirms parasites. This test is not the same as stool culture for bacteria.
Avatar f tn Hello, iv had a bad stomach ache now for 10 days now feeling sick on and off and generally feeling unwell, iv been to the doctors and have given bloods and stool sample, and been give tablets for ibs but it driving me mad so I thought I'd come on here for some advice, can ibs last this long or could it be something worse? Avatar f tn Struggling for answers, finding it hard for doctors to belive me as I am so young. I am a RN and what I was taught is that if you know there is something wrong with you there is. My higher family also has odd, similar symtpoms, so I'm beginning to think it's one of those rare genetic disorders. I have a positive ANA, joint pain, extreme fatigue, initially diagnosed with lupus, now I swear I have symtpoms similar to MS. I have spine and bone problems as my family does.
