Colesevelam and insulin

Common Questions and Answers about Colesevelam and insulin

welchol

Avatar f tn s complications such as pancreatic insufficiency, for which I take Creon enzymes with each meal, and Colesevelam for bile salts. We cannot prescribe any drugs as a lot of them are toxic, and can only be prescribed by a Gastroenterologist. I would suggest you have a consultation with your own gastro and heed his advice - they are the experts, not us! Take care, Liz.
Avatar n tn Londres is certainly correct that there are a few other options available to treat what could be assumed to be familial hypercholesterolaemia, even though your doctor has obviously tried those that would be most obvious. Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.
Avatar n tn looking for info on possible connection between being insulin depedent and excema-like symptoms (with extreme itchiness on extremities)
Avatar n tn I then eat 45 g of carbs and inject 3 units of insulin before the meal. Test 2 hours after starting to eat and my blood sugar is 140 (my target is < 120 after eating). This tells me that the insulin was not enough. Next time I eat 45 g of carbs I will try 4 units of insulin). I actually finally worked out that I need 1 unit of insulin for about 10 g of carbs. It also helps to restrict carbs.
Avatar n tn re having bad lows, then you need to further reduce your insulin dosing. Try reducing by say 10% and then if that is not enough reduce by a further 10%. Are you using basal-bolus regime, with separate long and short acting insulin? If you are you can look up how to do basal testing. This will help you set your long acting insulin to optimal level. An alterative approach to sliding scale is to dose fast acting insulin based on carb counting.
Avatar n tn Type 2 is most often associated with adult-onset and can be a combination of insulin resistance (most often in overweight folks) and also sluggish/impaired insulin production. Type 2s are sometimes treated with insulin, sometimes with oral meds, sometimes both, and always in combination with diet & exercise.
Avatar f tn I didn't have bruises as I switched around the sides where insulin was injected. Also, baby movement changes all the time, not necessarily the result of insulin. For me, the weird thing for insulin was the week b4 delivery,I don't need to rely on insulin at all. I was back to normal all a sudden. Dr. Said it was normal as the placenta wasn't working as well *** b4 as I close to the end. Good luck!
Avatar m tn My suggestion is to see an endo and get put on a regimen of basal and bolus (long acting and short acting) insulin and learn how to match your carbs to your insulin dose. You don't want to continue to have highs like that on a regular basis.
Avatar n tn t lose weight when I was hyperthyroid due to insulin resistance. I already had insulin resistance and this condition worsened to pre diabetes once I was hyperthyroid. I only started to lose weight since reversing my insulin resistance.
Avatar n tn I have had 2 diabetic pregnancies on insulin. Both went very smoothly, and while I did have to pay a lot of attention to blood sugar and diet, I ended up with 2 wonderful daughters. Please ask any questions. Hugs to you.
878328 tn?1244346031 yes, Insulin resistance means there ends up being too much sugr in yur blood and ergo too much uinsulin, and the insulin cancels out the efficacy of the Interferon causing less than optimal VL responses. People with high IR clear later, and SVR far less frequently. "CoWriter" has also compiled a list along with commentary here: http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/index/568322?
Avatar m tn The state of the art approach for all newly diagnosed type 2 people (you can look up joslin diabetes centre), is to start them on metformin to reduce the insulin resistance, and then to give them insulin. If you are early enough in the diagnosis, you will need only low doses of insulin to get excellent blood sugar. This is far safer and more effective than multi-oral therapy.
Avatar f tn I have had 2 diabetic pregnancies and my need for insulin increased dramatically from start to delivery. Both my girls were perfectly fine (I did have excellent control). My HbA1c when I delivered my first duaghter was close to 5. She was a natural delivery at 38 weeks and weighed 7 lbs 3 oz (I think I was taking about 60 units/day at the time of delivery, having started insulin at 3 months pregnant). For my second daughter it was 5.
Avatar f tn Yes same as diabetic meds its supposed to lower insulin levels because its said ppl with pcos have higher levels of insulin and can cause problems
Avatar f tn m not sure what the question is. Insulin injections and levels have absolutely positively nothing whatsoever to do with opiate addiction and the action of opiates on receptor sites.
Avatar n tn I'm 32 wks and was diagnosed with gd 3 weeks ago. First week they tried just diet/exercise, 2nd week gave me pills, 3rd week upped the dosage, now they are saying up dosage again and start insulin. My numbers haven't changed, they are 85-95 fasting, under 120 for lunch and all over the place for dinner but no higher than 150. The results have been the same no matter the dose so far. This is my fifth pregnancy and I had gd with my third too, completely controlled with diet/exercise.
Avatar f tn I am 53 year old and type 2 diabetic, I take Insulin twice daily. Other medications are metformin 500mg twice daily, Lisinopril 40mg(morning), Trazodone 50. Recently I take tadalafil 10mg and my blood sugar goes very low. I also tried 2.5mg daily at night, again my blood sugar goes very low. I wear a freestyle libre patch. What medications are interacts with tadalafil? Is Viagra will be safe for me?
Avatar f tn Hello so I'm 23 weeks and the docs have told me I need to be on insulin 4 times daily :(.. So my question is has anyone who is or had insulin have had mood swings with double the crying and emotional mood swings, I'm on my 7th baby and I've just started the insulin and I feel so horrible.
Avatar m tn Hi, yes, it can be normal for someone with type 2 to take both long acting (Lantus) and short acting (Humalog) insulin. The important thing is to control blood sugar.
Avatar f tn Yeah, I had last year with my son, along with insulin, and I kept taking it after I gave birth, and now I'm pregnant again, and I'm gonna use it, for me, it worked, and is safe for pregnant women, I don't think they would prescribe it if it wasn't
592256 tn?1353249474 Hi, every time I see the doctor or nurse they keep on at me to lose weight, I do all the right things but I cannot lose any, so I decided to stop my insulin 2 months ago and I have lost 20 pounds, thats great and I feel much better but now my blood glucose ranges from 13mmol(234mg/dl) in the morning to 25.5mmol(459mg/dl) at bed time. I dont feel ill or anything in fact I feel better, just thirsty. I dont know which is more serious to be over weight or have these high glucose levels.
Avatar n tn Hi Nisha, I'm not a medical professional but a volunteer on this forum with a similar story to yours. I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the age of 18 (that was over 11 years ago). I too struggled at first with insulin doses (which I also tried to adjust myself), trying to understand carb counting, etc. And I too gained wight steadily for years. I know how frustrating it all can be but trust me, what you're experiencing is very common, yet it doesn't have to be this way.
Avatar n tn The currently accepted treatment of choice is a basal (long-acting) insulin like Lantus once or twice a day and a bolus or rapid acting insulin before meals. A fixed dose of bolus like you describe is not as good as developing a carb ratio. You need to take the correct insulin dose each meal to cover what you eat (unless you want to eat the same thing every meal!).
519736 tn?1253986826 thanx for your quick reply. I did have black coffee right before the test. I have hypothyroidism. It was a new Endo I saw last June that ordered the blood work. He did not inform me of the insulin of 109 until August. And he told me I was "becoming insulin resistant". My glucose was normal. I'm confused. Are insulin and blood sugar the same thing?
Avatar f tn I am 30 years old and I have had diabetes sense I was 5 years old and have recently moved to a new state and can not get insurance until July 1.
