Common Questions and Answers about Cold urticaria remedy

cold

Avatar f tn I know the names cold urticaria and cold sore are similar by coincidence and that the cold sores could have originally been caused by the stress of the sudden cold urticaria, but is there any other possible connections between cold sores and cold urticaria or something that could cause both of these? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Hello, These symptoms can be due to cold urticaria. Cold urticaria is a disorder characterized by the rapid onset of itchiness, redness and swelling of the skin within minutes after exposure to a cold stimulus. Diagnosis can be made by an ice-cube test. Place an ice cube on your forearm for 4 minutes and observe the area for 10 minutes afterwards. If you have cold urticaria, the area will become itchy and then swell approximately 2 minutes after removing the ice cube.
Avatar f tn After looking into it, what you have is truly an allergy to cold. Refered to as 'cold urticaria'. With cold urticaria, exposure to cold temperatures causes redness, itching, swelling and hives on your skin. People with cold urticaria should avoid exposure to cold air or water as much as possible. (Source: Mayo Clinic, http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cold-urticaria/DS01160) This completely agrees with everything you have said, and thus proves your cold allergy.
Avatar n tn I used to sit on my heaters because I was a bone rack and used to get so cold during the winters! And the itchiness would come on and soon as I felt warm. The best remedy for me (besides avoiding heat) was to make sure I slathered baby oil or a heavy moisturizer all over my body when I got out of the shower. Let yourself air dry for a couple minutes before dressing. Exfoliating while you're in the shower will rid your body of any excess skin cells so the lotion can penetrate deeper.
Avatar f tn For the past couple of months I've noted my finger and feet are always cold. Lately, I've noticed that when it gets really bad (when they're very cold) I develop hives on my ankles. I have cold urticaria, which is an allergy to the cold, but i'm pretty sure it's only external stimuli, not internal. Could this be a blood circulation problem or something else? Thank you.

Avatar m tn There is a thing called cold urticaria, as well as heat urticaria. Some people get hives in response to too much heat or too much cold, or sometimes other triggers (my grandfather apparently gets it from water--my grandmother jokes he's the only boy allergic to soap and water). I don't think it's at all dangerous, just annoying, and the only thing I know of to do is avoid the trigger.

I have no hives, only swelling of the mouth, coughing and choking if exposed to cold air, air condition, fridge, freezer, drinking cold drinks, etc. I have to use gloves to touch anyting cold otherwise my fingers will swell and get very red, or have broken blod vessels as a results. Avatar n tn Hi, From what you describe you seem to be having cold urticaria or cold hives. Are you allergic to any specific food substances or do you have allergic reactions otherwise? You should consult your doctor for a confirmed diagnosis and a proper clinical evaluation. You should try and avoid exposure to cold and also antihistamine or antiallergic medications would definitely help you. Avatar m tn Hello, Cold and tingly fingers on exposure to cold may be due to many possibilities.First and foremost cold urticaria has to be ruled out. Cold urticaria is diagnosed by holding an ice cube against the skin of the forearm for 1 to 5 minutes. A distinct hive should develop if a patient has cold urticaria.
Avatar f tn Hello, Water urticaria, or aquagenic urticaria, is a rare condition in which hives develop within 1 to 15 minutes after contact with water. The hives last for 10 to 120 minutes and do not seem to be caused by histamine release like the other physical hives. Most investigators believe that this condition is actually exquisite skin sensitivity to additives in the water such as chlorine but distilled water can also cause this reaction.
Avatar f tn In this regard, it is noteworthy that the lesions of cold urticaria can localize in the pharynx and upper airway, including the pharynx, larynx and vocal cords and, can be precipitated not only by cold air but by cold drinks. I mention this so that you might ask your doctors about this possibility, so that it might be considered along with the diagnosis of cold air induced asthma.
