After 48 to 72 hours, if swelling is gone, apply heat to the area that hurts. Do not apply ice or heat directly to the skin. Place a towel over the cold or heat pack before applying it to the skin. •Compression.
Avatar f tn Hi Katie, You might try using an ice pack on your knee. It is advisable to put the ice pack in something like a thin kitchen towel or a pillow case works too. Ice packs can usually be purchased at a drug store. I'd get two so you can alternate them. Put the ice pack on for about 10 minutes. Recommended amount of time is 10 minutes but you can add 5 or 10 minutes more. Try and lie down and rest your knee. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn ve had knee pain for a while now, and I decided that I would try to use an ice pack. I foolishly placed ice directly in a plastic bag and applied that to my knee without anything between the plastic and my skin. I did this several times over a period of a few days. It seemed fine, as even though my knee would be a bit discolored after removing the ice pack, it would return to normal color within a short period and it felt completely fine.
Avatar f tn Try putting an ice pack or bag of frozen peas where you think her foot is. My little girl shoves her butt in my right ribs and it makes my whole side hurt. The ice pack works like a charm. She's not too fond of having a ice cold bottom lol. And it helps with the soreness too.

Avatar n tn This is a continuous sensation and is still currently present. It is a cold wet sensation which feels like an ice pack is on my leg. What is going on???
1794411 tn?1321495731 I'm a little odd on this one, I think. For my stiff neck, I like heat, especially moist heat (like a damp towel warmed up). For my headaches, I normally like ice packs, although I have to be careful not to get too cold as that causes a secondary headache. Occassionally, a hot shower or hot bath will help ease my headaches instead of the ice. I guess it depends on the headache? In my opinon, you should just keep trying to see what works best for you.
Avatar n tn I was checked for blood clot and it was negative. I feel heat coming out of my knee when I place an ice pack on it. It warms the ice pack quickly. My thigh is swollen too, but all the pain is in my knee. It hurts to touch the bones in my knee. My ankles are a little swollen and also the calf on the other leg. I have had a meniscus tear and arthritis in one knee and baker's cyst in the other. Should I see an orthopedic surgeon or a Vascular surgeon? My knee is really hurting 24/7.
Avatar f tn Is there an agreed upon place (butt, back, foot, thigh?) to put the ice pack and/or heating pad to help sciatic nerve pain the most? If not, where has it helped YOU most effectively? I appreciate any and all responses!
Avatar f tn I have had knee surgery on my right knee 5 times - each time the orthopedic doc has recommended icing the knee for a few minutes every day. I had the "bad stuff" scraped out from the underside of that knee 4 of the 5 times for surgery. The first time was for a torn meniscus after bumping it on a file cabinet at work. Seeing the doctor is ALWAYS a good choice when a new pain arises - especially one that doesn't seem to want to go away. Good Luck to you!
Avatar n tn I had an injury to my right knee 10 years ago but it seemed to be fine after quite some time. I have been doing some work her and there but I have no insurance and can bearly pay my bills. I have gained weight over these past 3 years (I was on my way to losing it on the job but the company shut down, I gained more). Now my knees are killing me ecen after a little time on them. I hobble around in pain , so I sit alot in pain but the idea of exersise is out. I know i need it.
Avatar n tn My right leg for no reason will get this hard knot on the inter part of knee, and after using ice pack, it was worse, but using a heat pad, swelling will go down and knot is gone. Then the area will be normal for weeks and for no reason it will flare up and I can not walk or straighten leg.

572651 tn?1530999357 I'm on copaxone as well but Shared Solutions hasn't sent any ice packs to me - but there was an ice/heat pack in the "Welcome" kit the nurse brought to me.. The ziploc baggie thing is really flexible and wraps around all my body parts .
Avatar m tn is the left knee, and a recent accident disclosed a torn cartilage and arthritis in the left knee (and some swelling behind the knee.....no pain, just swollen). One injection of Cartisone and 1 weekly injection of Hyaluronic Acid for 3 weeks brought some relief, but very little. I read about Castor Oil Packs and within 1 hour, I eliminated the swelling (had been swollen for almost 4 months) and daily treatments of COP has eliminated 95% of all discomfort....
Avatar f tn it also gives out every now and then, and now i also am experiencing a shooting pain that feels cold and radiates partly down to my upper calf bone, and after the shooting pain is over, the knee feels very cold and achy. (this pain i am describing is occurring inside the knee, and not on the exterior. any ideas?
Avatar f tn Now then in morning knee lil swollen, pain when walking, no bending or squatting which would lead my proffessional opinion to be you over streched tendons, possibly a slight tear. Use an ice pack for 2 days twice a day 30 mins each. No more weights till Friday. If everything returns to normal leave the squats out for an additional week. However by this Friday if knee is still the same, go see family doctor. Be smart and avoid all the costly tests.
Avatar n tn My upper chest area and my upper back area only are cold like there is an ice pack sitting on them. It just started 2 days ago and it only happens at night. Does anyone have any idea?
Avatar n tn It is like I have a tourniquet wrapped around my leg just below my knee. I ice every night and even heat pack for relief. I have tried five different PT's with not one knowing finding the answer. Yes the Dr like yours says give it time. The xray is perfect. So frustrated. I am 57 and very active.
Avatar m tn i heard hiv virus survive very well in a cold box(where the nurse took the cold pack from).
Avatar f tn When my daughter would kick the tips of my ribs it felt like they were going to shatter so when she did it I would put an ice pack on my ribs an she would move worked every time
Avatar m tn Meanwhile do not bear weight on that leg, give it rest, apply ice pack, and take an anti-inflammatory pain killer. Take care!
Avatar f tn when I return home, I religiously place ice-gel packs on top and underside of knee for 30-40 minutes; then the CO Pack for ~90 minutes....
Avatar f tn This sopunds like a ligament problem, ok been there so talking form expearience, and the simple way is to get yourself a cheap 1 kilo pack of frozen peas and do this 3 times a day, you put your leg up and put the pack on your knee, the pack needs to be in a towel and leave it there for up to 30 minutes, this will help to get blood around the joint and help the healing of the ligament, it takes time but it will get there, you did not say are you getting pain when you walk up or down stairs?
Avatar f tn ve already had my right shoulder replaced and I will tell you, I wish they had tiven me one of those ice wraps that you talked about for that!! Trying to get an ice pack to stay put was miserable! Even the large, tie-on ones they give you at the hospital didn't do much good. I'm not really worried about the pain following surgery - I have several chronic pain issues, so I'm quite used to dealing with pain (unfortunately).
Avatar f tn Then place that bag in the cooler bag with the larger ice pack that comes with monthly shipping. I estimate that I have to keep this cold for a minimum of 12 hours. Preflight 2 hrs, 6 hrs flight, and 2 hrs post flight with a 2 hr cushion. Any ideas? I also have to carry snacks. Do you think this will hold?
