Antipsychotics can cause reduced testosterone levels and increased prolactin levels. Increased prolactin levels causing hyperprolactinemia can reduce the testicular size . Prolactin levels normally fall within days of stopping oral medication, but may take months to return to normal after stopping long acting depot medication.
Risperidone and Amisulpride are main offenders and Clozapine and Quetiapine generally do not raise Prolactin levels.
I take 150mg Clozapine regularly after a late dinner. Some time after, 1-2 hour I feel really dizzy and faint, especially if I get up from bed I have a strong feeling that I am going to faint. Does anyone else get this with Clozapine or other Bi-polar meds?
I also noticed that my capacity to do exercise is effected. My muscles get sore quickly when I am trying to jog and it is hard to jog more then 5Km. Is there a Bi-polar medication that does not effect ability to exercise and do sport?
I just finished my second week of Clozapine. My WBC and ANC dropped too low, so now it's 2 lab draws/week. My mood isn't stabilized yet, and I don't like the side effects. I just would like feedback from others who have been on Clozapine long term. How are you doing? Is your mood stable most of the time? What kind of side effects do you experience? Clozapine is a Antipsychotic. It can help with Bipolar and Schizaphrenis. The literature says it can help with hallunication's but with too high a dose of Clozapine can actually cause hallunication's. It also says regular blood test must be given. Lithium must be monitored with blood test as well. It also says do not take Carbamazepine with Clozapine.

Has anyone taken verapaml or clozapine after no other drugs worked? I'm at my last resort after being on Depakote, Lamictal, Geodon, and Cymbalta. If anyone has had any experience with either of these drugs, I'd like to know what you thought of them.
i had a priapism epidsode back in august of this year by taking psych drug clozapine..
now i'm sexually impotent from that epidsode....will ED drugs (viagra, sildenafil) cure it? or make it worse?
So does anyone know of a med that can do the same thing as clozapine Because clozapine cause other things like bed wetting and drolling then he does choke in his sleep from it and has thrown up cause of drool and more. He is on abilify already too. Im not sure there is any other med the is heavy duty he is on. I know the doc said there is no other heavy duty med out there like that. Im looking for somthing simialr or less risky or 2 less risky ones they can put him on together at the same time.
I am taking Zyprexa 20mg and Clozapine 300mg. At certain times in the day, every day, I get really agitated inside my head and don't know what to do to make it stop. My thoughts are talking me down, but not exactly telling me to commit suicide which is why I'm confused and not sure if these are suicidal thoughts caused by the medicine. I am 26 years old. These thoughts never stop, doesn't matter what I do or what I think.
Hello I (look) after my son who suffers from schizoprenia, autisim, cardiomyopathy that was casued by clozapine and first stages of emphazema (cannot spell it). he is now on sollann 400g twice daily, simvahexal 40g at night,DPL aspirin 100g daily, and toprol XL1909mg morning,coversyl 2.5mg daily, Meprazol 20mg twice daily. my son has been experencing muscle aches and pains for aome time and very bad heaches.

Is there any treatment?
Treatment is highly individualized. The first step is generally to stop or minimize the use of the neuroleptic drug, but this can be done only under close supervision of the physician..
However, for myself (not something you have of course) in having schizoaffective disorder I needed an antipsychotic and all of them except for Clozaril (which causes blood dyscreias and needs constant bloodwork and can be dangerous
and something I couldn't tolerate) can cause it. I think I would have not been able to recover if I hadn't taken an antipsychotic all these years though I wish they had caught up with the tardive in time before it progressed this far.
She doesn’t feel “normal,” said she feels like her skin is crawling, she sleeps a lot during the day and is anxious about her future…wondering if the Clozaril doesn’t work, what will she be able to take. Some days she is very thick tongued and her speech is slurred and slow, other days she’s more normal. She has no motivation to do normal daily activities (she’s presently on long-term disability) and is starting to get a “shutting down” feeling (not wanting to leave her apartment, etc.).
I was reading the side effects of clonapine and was horrified. It said that strokes can be a side effect of clonapine. Also the drugs description said that it was only prescribed to schizophrenics. I am taking it for anxiety. At first it did wonders but I think the dosage needs to be increased. I really would like to get off of it but unfortunately i suffer from severe anxiety. I am also afraid that I will become addicted to it.

Had quit smoking and started exercising and eating healthy, was going to make my next 50 years good ones - so I thought. With every month that passed, it seemed like I struggled more and was getting no where. I didn't lose weight, it was getting harder to breath, found I could exercise as long, it was hard going up and down the steps, and so on.
