plavix

Avatar n tn Plavix/clopidogrel is mainly an anti-platelet drug (they are *usually* used artery-side, e.g., to prevent strokes or heart attacks). The other drugs mentioned are anticoagulants (which interfere with coagulant proteins such as Factor Xa -- they are usually used venous-side, e.g., preventing DVT after orthopedic surgery). Either type might be used for the in between, which is the heart: for AFib clotting/strokes. I don't know why your doc preferred to prescribe Plavix for DVT.
Avatar m tn Hello Abdul284 It is hard to give you an accurate assessment of the situation but generally speaking all coronary artery stents require uninterrupted use of aspirin and clopidogrel (ticagrelor or prasugrel may be alternative medications utilized). The duration of this therapy varies depending on stent type.
690060 tn?1247841741 And then a preliminary analysis of data from the COGENT trial, a trial dedicated to specifically examining clopidogrel with a PPI vs placebo, fails to suggest even the slightest signal of a negative interaction. For the FDA to then strengthen the warning of a interaction is baffling, to say the least." Also, IIRC the AHA and ACC haven't advised against the combination.
Avatar n tn After six years post MI and ef varying between 25-35%, my cardiologist now feels that I should shift from aspirin(150)+clopidogrel (75) to warfarin. Two years back he did tell me that he is double minded on whether to put me on warfarin. But this time he appears to be very sure and has insisted me to go for warfarin. His justification is "that is what literature says". I have no AF or valve problem.
Avatar m tn At 18-month follow-up, there was no difference between patients with a drug-eluting or bare-metal stent in cumulative rates of death or myocardial infarction (MI). However, after clopidogrel discontinuation patients receiving drug-eluting vs bare-metal stents experienced higher rates of death and MI (4.9% vs 1.3%, respectively). These results have created uncertainty regarding the minimal necessary duration of antiplatelet therapy after drug-eluting stent implantation.
Avatar m tn Combining plavix and aspirin increases the risk of bleeding vs. aspirin alone in patients treated for more than a brief period of time. That is the regimen followed for my DES implant. f you are in this category a prior MI and unstable angina:" In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI.
Avatar n tn In 2007, at age 54, I had a heart attack and received 6 drug-eluding stents in one artery. Prior to that I had virtually no symptoms, and no risk factors except for stress, and the cause of the heart attack was a mystery to everyone. I stayed on plavix for 6 months (along with low-dose aspirin which I continue to take) and couldn't stand the side effect of severe bruising.
Avatar n tn I am at the early stages of PPT (I also have postpartum anxiety) my endocrinologist put me on Tapazole 2 weeks ago. I have a mild soar throat but I believe it's merely the remnants of a cold. However, I am losing an insane amount of hair, above the average hair loss due to postpartum. Is this the combo of thyroid, meds and postpartum... I'm on tapazole 10mg daily dose. Is there something I can do? I had my blood work done on Friday and WBC was normal... does it fluctuate easily?
Avatar n tn after a stent inplant how long must clopidogrel-winthrop be taken my heart attack was caused by cholestral which now a 3
7510956 tn?1411671417 More potent antiplatelet agents — such as clopidogrel (Plavix), prasugrel (Effient), and others currently in the pipeline — could have an even stronger effect against fibrosis, said Athan Kuliopulos, MD, PhD, professor of medicine at the Tufts University Sackler School of Biomedical Sciences in Boston, who was not involved with the study. "And this is just liver fibrosis," he told Medscape Medical News. "What does it mean for outcome?
Avatar m tn You may have postpartum thyroiditis (PPT). PPT is considered a "temporary"/self-resolving thyroiditis. It usually starts with a hyper phase, followed by a return to normal and then a hypo phase. However, many women only experience the hypo or the hyper, not both. TSI (thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin) is the antibody marker for Graves'. If you have that tested, and it's elevated, you'll know you have Graves'.

Avatar f tn I have a 7 month old son and my thyroid is way out of whack. Because of my somewhat recent pregnancy my endo seems to think that I have PPT. I have researched this and PPT goes from hyper to hypo and I thought if this was the case with my sons age I would be in the hypo stage by now....also I have no inflammation which I'm pretty sure would be required for a thyroidITIS diagnosis.
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
Avatar n tn s heart valve and a pacemaker and they were taking the medication clopidogrel for 7 years and then stopped taking it for a few months, could there be any ramifications?
Avatar f tn You could have Hashi's, but it's more likely you have postpartum thyroiditis. PPT is a variant of Hashi's, but many people recover from it on their own. It usually presents as an initial hyper phase, followed by a return to normal and a hypo phase, although some people only experience one of the phases. Your FT4 is only 29% of range, which is low of the 50% target. Many of us found FT4 had to be about 50% before our symptoms were relieved.
Avatar f tn Without getting into the pharmocological aspects regarding the mechanism of action of asprin resistance and the mechanixm of activity of plavix (clopidogrel), the American Academy of Cardiology recommends tests. Dr. Waksman: "I'll try to do my best because it's a controversy.
Avatar m tn New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced. Patients at risk for heart attacks or strokes who use clopidogrel to prevent blood clots will not get the full effect of this medicine if they are also taking omeprazole.
Avatar n tn m glad to read that I am not the only one with Thyroid issues! I am the proud mother of a new baby girl who is now 4 months old and I suffer from PPT, I had it with my first child and now I new the signs I acted fast and saw my endo. The problem is that I've been prescribed Tapazole to help me with the hyper stage until hypo sets in, and honestly, I'm really scared to take the medication. The list of side effects seem pretty severe. Is this the best process for me to take.
