Avatar f tn i have a 5 year old boy that currently has adhd, but for the past three weeks he has become very very defeint some time to the point that he gets aggressive, could he have odd along with his adhd, right now he is on 40mgs per day of vyvanse for adhd. his doc, gave him .1mg of clonidine to help with his aggreesion. does clonidine help with odd??how long does it take to see improvements??
Avatar n tn but 2 months ago the doc added Guanfacine and Clonidine to help. then things became bad again. And guanfacine is not easy to come off of. We lately we have had outburts like previous to trileptal. and so he has presrcibed the Risperal. we are nervous about what we are reading for side effects including males developing breasts and milk. we are looking for someone who has used it a while in a young boy.
Avatar n tn beta blockers? clonidine? guanfacine? alpha blockers? Ace receptor blockers? calcium channel blockers? All seem awful for my case. (e.g. what if it turns out have a hidden pheo? what if i do have mast cell). plus am so intolerant of meds. And with those swings in bp, this is not normal hypertension. Anyone have success? docs are useless and I'm doctored out!!
Avatar m tn I found that in my son, who has a variety of mental health issues, guanfacine seemed to agitate him to the point that he physically attacked his older brother, literally 3 times his size. In addition, in a bizarre medication mixup, I had taken that medication in place of my regular medication and found the same to be true, I was extremely irritable and felt like I bordered on uncontrollable anger.
Avatar m tn Ever since I started generic guanfacine I've been getting light beige stool, before guanfacine was normal stool. Can this generic medication regime lead to jaundice?
585414 tn?1288941302 Yesterday I started on Guanfacine. That is used as an experimental mood stabilizer in the same class as Clonidine (alpha blocker). For me its controlling tardive dystonia and what they are identifying as tardive psychosis. But when I said I was recovered from schizoaffective with the Phase II experimental antipsychotic, glycine, a glutamate antagonist, that is not a mood stabilizer. And this is mitigating my moodswings further.
Avatar f tn Oh, I am sorry I did not see this earlier. That has got to be scary! How is he doing now? What is interesting is that intuniv normally calms one down. There is a caution about, "Guanfacine should not be taken with a high-fat meal. This can speed up the release of medication, and increase the risk of side effects." But, the side effects are usually more sedation....not the opposite. I am wondering if he didn't get the proper dose of either of his medications?
Avatar f tn Possible choices could include low dose of risperodone or one of the antihypertensives, such as clonidine or guanfacine. See what the prescriber might suggest. His age limits the options but does not exclude the pharmacology option.
16638194 tn?1449934941 He started out on Risperdal when he was 4 but we quickly took him off because he quickly ballooned by 15 lbs. in 1 month. We eventually ended up on Abilify and Tenex (Guanfacine) and he's been taking that combination for about 3 years. Now we are at the point where those two meds were not working at all and we were already at the approved dosage limits.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any experience using Tenex/ Guanfacine as treatment for ADHD (not for insomnia or high blood pressure) -- either as monotherapy or as augmentive treatment with other meds -- that they would be willing to share? Thank you.
Avatar m tn My granddaughter (6yrs old) is now taking 2 mg of Guanfacine HCL ER 24hr. It has helped with her outbursts and she is much more focused. The issue is, she is waking up in the middle of the night, hungry and unable to go back to sleep. We were giving it to her in the am as prescribed. She was having problems staying awake at school. We have switched to the pm before bed thinking it would help her sleep and be more alert at school.
Avatar f tn Question for those taking Clonidine.... I'm having a hard time acquiring Clonidine, I'm in Canada and the manufacturer cannot supply my pharmacy whith what I need, I have to have the 0.025mg pills so I can combine them to take 0.050mg three times a day and 0.075mg at bed time, the last prescription they could only supply me with 0.2mg tablets, so I have to cut them into 4's to get the 0.050mg dosis, I still have some 0.
Avatar n tn Tenex, which is generic name guanfacine, and clonidine are 2 medications that can be used for tics. Each have their side effects but they are in general safe and are often effective in suppressing tics. Some recent research has shown that behavioral therapy may be helpful to some individuals.
Avatar m tn He is driving us crazy but not showing any signs of anger or aggression. We then introduced ADHD medication, guanfacine, evening only. Second day he started exhibiting more aggressive, angry behavior. I plan to call the Doctor on Monday, but wanted to know if anyone else had similar situation?
Avatar f tn My concern is her doctor prescribed Guanfacine (I believe it was the lowest dose) generic for Tenex. We noticed her behavior worsening almost immediately. It's been 2 weeks and not only was there no improvement, but her behavior is sooo much worse! So her doctor added Adderall two days ago. No difference in her behavior yet. We are just learning about ADHD. Have done hours of research. I know dr.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Clonidine now for 15 days, I'm taking .05mg 4 times a day, my blood pressure seems to be more in the normal range, with movement it does still go high but not as high. My heart rate on the other hand is still quite high, it only slows down to a normal range if I lay down, and even then it is at about 87, just sitting I'm at 101, is clonidine suppossed to help with the heart rate too? do I have to wait longer for this medication to work on my heart rate?
Avatar m tn Note that mania and aggressive behavior have been reported in pediatric patients with ADHD who received Guanfacine. All such patients had medical or family risk factors for bipolar disorder, and all patients recovered upon discontinuation of guanfacine HCl." That was the only risk factor I saw that might cover your problem. But I would assume that he had this problem before starting the tenex?
Avatar f tn He has been through several different meds, his behavorial doctor was prescribing him stimulates which were not good for him. Recently we changed doctors and she prescribed him guanfacine er it seemed to work at first but now he's gone back to his old self. But it's not really the ADHD that's the big issue, its the ODD, and its bad, so much so that his school has suspended him multiple times for death threats and breaking school property.
10047460 tn?1407438406 Wow Jeni I'm not sure. The only time I took Clonidine was for my high blood pressure. I've heard that Clonidine helps with a lot of symptoms of withdrawal including cravings. My doctor gave me Zofran 8 mg for nausea. It worked really well. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hang on for a while.
Avatar f tn Thus the reason for the foggy head/headache during the acute phase. The clonidine helped immensely and even helps with sleep.
Avatar m tn It is really amazing my pain is completely almost gone, with the exception of a little soreness. I have starting weaning myself from the oxy and was going to ask my doc for some clonidine. How much does it really help with the w/d symptoms?
Avatar m tn enybody got eny feed back clonidine it was given to me to help with withdraw from oxi and its not doing enygood going through hell right now I have about 7 days
