Avatar f tn Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?
Avatar f tn We have not given him any meds, as he has had the symptoms only for three weeks. One pedia neurologist recommended clonidine, but the second opinion totally disagreed. We are doing testing, and I'm starting him on supplements of B vitamins and Magnesium. Thanks for your comments.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar f tn Clonidine was initially used as an antihypertensive but it has come to be used to treat a variety of behavioral disorders including tics, symptoms of ADHD, aggression, PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder, or sleep problems. Medication of this sort can be helpful and has shown to be most effective in conjunction with systematic behavioral programming.
Avatar n tn I am trying to alter his diet since I have read this online as a possible cause, but actually we feel lost and would like to help him, but do not know where to start. He is on Clonidine and has been for awhile and it has not helped with the tics, for they seem to be getting worse. Please advise on some possible solutions and please list any support groups in chicago northwest suburbs where we might find support and answers. Thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn He has jus started a college course that he really enjoys and now he cant attend that as these tics are so powerful that he cannot keep them in. It looks like clonidine and sulpiride have lost their effect. We are going to see pyschiatrist tomorrow to talk about new meds. Ive heard mixed stories about ORAP, HALDOL and RISPERIDONE. can anyone advise us on which one would work best for such severe motor and vocal tics.
Avatar n tn Tenex, which is generic name guanfacine, and clonidine are 2 medications that can be used for tics. Each have their side effects but they are in general safe and are often effective in suppressing tics. Some recent research has shown that behavioral therapy may be helpful to some individuals.
Avatar n tn If the underlying cause is a physical or mental health threat, then that cause must be addressed. Similarly, if the nervous tics are making it difficult for a person to socialize or otherwise live a normal, happy life, it may be necessary to develop a plan to control the problem. Nervous tics that result from neurological problems can sometimes be controlled with muscle relaxants, tranquilizers, or medicines such as Clonidine.
Avatar f tn He also has adhd(diagnosed at age 6). He takes vyvanse 40m. for adhd, risperdone 1m. for mood disorder, and clonidine 0.2 for insomnia. He has motor ticks such as blinking his eyes ,shaking his head, twitching his shoulders, claps his hands or taps an object with his hands. He just started doing a skipping thing when he walks. Is this a tic? All of the motor tics i just mentioned are constant. The vocal tics he makes are sniffing, clearing his throat, and humming.
Avatar f tn First definitely find a good Neurologist, someone your son is happy with, it can be hard to discuss the tics and what is happening when you are young. Secondly please do not ever punish him for these Tics, if it is Tourettes he can not stop them. In time he may be able to control them but stress, tiredness, school and a number of other situations can make them more frequent and stronger.
Avatar n tn I strongly believe that there is an autoimmune aspect to the symptoms my kids have had. Both have had Tics and OCD symptems. My son has been on a low dose of Penicilin for several years. It took about a year and a half for his symptoms to resolve. Occasionally when he gets sick he has a minor "flare up" that does not last nearly as long and is not anywhere near as severe as the first episode. My daughter is 9 months out from her onset of PANDAS symptoms.
Avatar n tn s only had the vocal tic for 3 weeks. Apparently the vocal and motor tics must both be present for a year. She did however give us a prescription for clonidine, so we'll see if that works or not. My niece who is 16 was diagnosed with Tourette's about a year ago, so yes there is a family history, also the after discussing the issue with DH's family there is probably a few cases of undiagnosed minor Tourette's.
Avatar f tn I am on pretty strong levels of Clonidine (0.2mg BID) and Celexa (40-mg BID) so I am fearful of how the tics will be when we start weining. Any ideas, suggestions, articles, etc...are greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn The internet should have a lot of information on tics - I might suggest you google the phrase "children and tics" or similar words/phrases to find out about this topic. Please note that the word is spelled "tic" - your spelling indicates fleas or bugs. Hope this helps ....
Avatar m tn I am 50 years old male and have tics for the past 7 years. My neurologist runs an EMG, but it proved that my muscles are strong and there is no observation of any muscle disorder. He didn't impress upon me that what is the cause of my tics, execpt that he diagnosed that it is mainly due to stress. I still have the tics occassionally, althought it disappeared temporarily when I go abroad for vacation or even just attending business fair. Is my tics considered a tourette syndrome?
Avatar f tn Um i would say that the book Quit It Is good for maybe that kind of situation.
Avatar n tn to get another doctor to give you an opinion, insure that the tics are eliminated and minimize the ADHD symptoms. If by reducing the dosage, you accomplished the elimination of the tics and he is still paying attention and behaving, you accomplised 2 of your 3 goals. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I used cloudiness to help with my tics seems to work well .
Avatar n tn Just wanted to share some things that worked for my son. Most tics are transient, but there are some things you can do to help remedy them. First, I would order a Comprehensive Diagnositic Stool Analysis. Check for dysbiotic (bad) bacteria or yeast overgrowth. Also check Secretory IgA levels and inflammatory markers. Generally, when there are tics, Sec IgA is low.
Avatar m tn maybe his anxiety is increasing and it is making his tics worse. perhaps he is being teased at school or something. have they tried clonidine for the tics? what has been on for the OCD??
17218185 tn?1454677673 Please give me some advice about these 2 treatments for Tourettes. My 12 yr old son has Tourette's, was diagnosed when he was 5. At that time, he was having lots of verbal tics, strange behavior, slow language development, and obsessive scribbling on paper then waddling it up and throwing on floor (he started kindergarten, and I got impression he was stressed about learning to write), he did this for hours at a time!
Avatar f tn and i would highly recommend you consider the potential of your tics being mistaken for Tourettes and the potential of these tics being in someway related to your complex preexisting medical conditions and or medications, and it might be in your best interest to see a Tourettes specialist and be officially diagnosed, which will likely include re evaluation of your medical diagnostic history too. I hope that helps....
Avatar n tn It looks like the Risperdal could be the reason for the motor tics. Which would make more sense then the Concerta being the problem. And Risperdal could be the reason for the weight gain too. Here is a link to the info I was looking at on Risperdal - http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Risperdal By the way, don't suddenly stop the Risperdal. You must sloooowly come off of it. Good luck!
969557 tn?1314370614 The question of whether or not Concerta and other ADHD medications causes tics is a complex one. ADHD and tic disorder often occur together, so when tics occur in someone on a medication for ADHD, there is no clear way to know if the tics occurred because of the medication or if they would have occurred anyway, in due time. When the tics resolve after discontinuation of the medication, then a medication-induced tic disorder becomes clearer to diagnose.
Avatar n tn My daughter, too, has Tourettes. She will be 6 next month. It definitely waxes and wanes. Looking back i think she actually started symptoms around age 2. ANyway, I am posting here bc i am somewhat fortunate (I guess in a strange way) bc her dad has it too, and therefor, we have the luxury of knowing what worked for him and will probably follow suit.
