Avatar f tn I ordered a vitamin mix, which concentrates on B6 and Magnesium as these deficiencies are said to contribute to motor tics. I would appreciate any comments or guidance. Thanks!
Avatar n tn can anyone advise us on which one would work best for such severe motor and vocal tics. I would really like to hear from anyone who is suffering the same as a parent or sufferer.
Avatar n tn Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor. It sounds like you have been suffering from tics. While I can not directly recommend a treatment without examining you and obtaining a history, I will try to provide you with some information.
Avatar n tn Are there any other problems in addition to the ADHD and tic disorder? Does he display any voacl tics in addition to the motor tics? You'll want to rule out Tourette's Disorder. Since you are close to Chicago, it would be worthwhile to have him undergo a thorough evaluation in both neurology and child psychiatry at Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago. You will not likely find much, if any, benefit from alterations of his diet.
Avatar f tn He also has adhd(diagnosed at age 6). He takes vyvanse 40m. for adhd, risperdone 1m. for mood disorder, and clonidine 0.2 for insomnia. He has motor ticks such as blinking his eyes ,shaking his head, twitching his shoulders, claps his hands or taps an object with his hands. He just started doing a skipping thing when he walks. Is this a tic? All of the motor tics i just mentioned are constant. The vocal tics he makes are sniffing, clearing his throat, and humming.
Avatar f tn Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?
1060317 tn?1254476427 I am really concern about my motor tics. I have been having the eye blinking since little but now it has develop to my head and shoulder and my hands feel tense sometimes.
Avatar f tn At least one vocal and at least 2 motor. Motor tics can be anything from tiny twitches in the face to a full on arm throw. Vocal tics can also be anything from simply clearing your throat or yelling something out, or making noises. (correct me if im wrong). Now although you can Google stuff and go on to approved government websites and try to figure it out, you cannot have an official diagnosis unless you go to a doctor. There are also different tic disorders, other than tourettes.
Avatar n tn Mine are mainly motor and almost exclusively left sided. The gliosis was discovered while doing an MRI to determine the cause of my motor tics. The only time I have verbal impact is if it is a particularly bad day, bad as in my motor tics are causing intense tension headaches. I will then also suffer from muscle control issues.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for sharing ^.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms sound familiar to me (the mother of a 19 year old with Tourettes). It sounds like your symptoms are present enough to merit a screening by a neurologist. Tourettes symptoms can wax and wane. Sometimes being tired or stressed can increase tic activity. If it ends up you do have Tourettes, realize that it means you have had it your whole life. I know it can feel worse to actually have a label put to a nagging hunch, but getting support and help for it can balance that.
Avatar n tn My daughter started off with her first tic being eye blinking at the age of 5. The tics will come and go and some tics will go and never come back. She did the eye blinking for about 6 months and then it went away and has never come back though it has been replaced with other tics. My daughter is now 11 soon to be 12. I think we as parents notice the tics more than others. My daughter has never been made fun of (so far) by her peers but her tics have not been anything too aggressive.
Avatar n tn However, within the past year she has started displaying frequent motor tics and recently vocal tics. Her motor tics started with blinking/rolling her eyes. They have progressed to neck shrugs and hand twists. Lately, she makes a "un" gutteral sound. The vocal tics are occuring as often as 1-2 times a minute. Is there any connection between her early seizures and tics?
Avatar m tn These must be distinguished from other movement disorders like chorea, dystonia and myclonus. Simple motor tics are typically sudden, brief, meaningless movements that usually involve only one group of muscles like eye blinking, head jerking or shoulder shrugging. also seen are neck stretching, mouth movements, facial grimacing etc.
Avatar m tn My child was diagnosed with motor tics at age 7. Over the years they waxed and waned with very little noticablity. She is very smart and outgoing, but fear that might change one day with this condition. Now 13, she has about 8 different movements that she does throughout her day, and noticeable. She just started saying her name quietly at the end of her sentences occasionally. Is this a verbal tic? She has never had any other signs of verbal tics.
Avatar f tn I wrote in to this website when my son was 4 years old and started with transient motor tics, right after having two back-to-back illnesses (with a high temperature) and also after being treated with albuterol for severe asthma. His tics have not been as bad as they were the first time he started having them, but are still present at times. He is also growing out of asthma.
Avatar m tn Hello, Childhood tics are not uncommon. The majority of children simply outgrow them. There are prescription medications that can help reduce the frequency and severity of tics, but they generally come with negative side effects. Most patients with tics or Tourette's do not require medication and simply learn to cope with their tics. The vast majority of Tourette's cases are in children and adolescents, and rarely does it continue into adulthood.
969557 tn?1314370614 s to be diagnosed, there must be both motor and vocal tics that occur for over 1 year and start before the age of 18, and are not attributable to other causes. It sounds like your tics are mainly localized to your neck. Abnormal neck contractions maybe tics, but also may be dystonia, it really depends on the nature of your abnormal movements. There are many medications that can be used for tics.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar f tn Clonidine was initially used as an antihypertensive but it has come to be used to treat a variety of behavioral disorders including tics, symptoms of ADHD, aggression, PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder, or sleep problems. Medication of this sort can be helpful and has shown to be most effective in conjunction with systematic behavioral programming.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the feedback. If they are motor tics I will be very happy to hear that. Motor tics (from what I have read) seem to be failry common in boys his age and generally clear up over a few weeks or months. At the worst they could be a sign of TS which would be much better news than some sort of degeneravtive nerve disorder.
Avatar f tn “Tics are the most varied of all movement disorders. Tics are brief and intermittent movements (motor tics) or sounds (phonic tics). Motor tics typically consist of sudden, abrupt, transitory, often repetitive, and coordinated movements that may resemble gestures and mimic fragments of normal behavior, vary in intensity, and repeated at irregular intervals. The movements are most often brief and jerky however, slower, more prolonged movements also occur.
Avatar n tn s only had the vocal tic for 3 weeks. Apparently the vocal and motor tics must both be present for a year. She did however give us a prescription for clonidine, so we'll see if that works or not. My niece who is 16 was diagnosed with Tourette's about a year ago, so yes there is a family history, also the after discussing the issue with DH's family there is probably a few cases of undiagnosed minor Tourette's.
Avatar n tn It looks like the Risperdal could be the reason for the motor tics. Which would make more sense then the Concerta being the problem. And Risperdal could be the reason for the weight gain too. Here is a link to the info I was looking at on Risperdal - http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Risperdal By the way, don't suddenly stop the Risperdal. You must sloooowly come off of it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn 5 yr old son has ADHD (very impulsive) and chronic motor tics. As he was grew up we tried different meds for short periods, but the adderall made his tics worse, the strattera did not do anything ( we recently just tried strattera agan for the recommended time and dosage), in the past 1.5 years he has been involved with pot (it helps his tics) and then moved on to meth. He said he was very focused on the meth and it did not bother his tics.
Avatar f tn Everything came back normal, because as those would not cause tics, they would increase them.As i told by the doc,he has to have motor tics, and at least a vocal tic for awhile.Doc actually said a scan would not help diagnosis.Im soooo confused.i love my son dearly, but i dont know how to help him.Lately hes been overly emotional because of meds.Am i doing something wrong?.....
Avatar f tn I was recently told i may have tourettes due to vocal and motor tics. The tics include spasming of multiple areas of my body and occasionally making an indecipherable sound. I had these on occasion when I was a kid, but they have worsened over the past year. I also have body pain and lack of coordination that has been getting worse. I also was seen in the er for blurred vision not long ago and this is still a problem even with glasses. Anyone have any ideas?
Avatar n tn s that last for a year or more, but no vocal (sound) tics). Chronic vocal tic disoder is when the sounds last for a year without the motor tics. And, finally, a Tourette's diagnosis requires that the child has had both motor and vocal tics (not necessarily at the same time) for a year or more. There is also a condition callsed PANDAS that occurs after your child has had a strep infection. Tics develop but go away in time from this condition.
Avatar f tn s while simultaneously clenching her jaw and squeezing her fists closed. I have only seen her do this 2 or 3 times but I wonder if this will be the start of motor tics for her. How can I tell the difference between behavioral issues and OCD at age 5? What are the chances of my daughter's Tourette (or tics) being the same as her father's? Thank you!
