Firstly, has he been cultured for strep throat and/or had a rapid strep test done? Secondly, steroids are good for getting inflammation down but they cause you get very immunocompromised. Are these oral steroids and were they actually perscribed by a doctor. I would stop the steroids. He could also have a resistant strain of Strep. so they may need to do a antibiotic sensitivity panel if the culutre is still positive. Lastly, it may virus that he got after the initial infection.
I am a 21 year old male. I have been diagnosed with strep throat two weeks ago after rapid test. Symptoms were mild no fever and I had mostly stomach problems rather then throat but a huge swollen node under my jaw which hasn't gone away. I was taken z pack antibiotics for 5 days but still felt sick. So I was given clindamycin which worked I felt better after two days.

For the past two months, I get a feeling of a lump in my throat that comes and goes. It first appeared after taking antibiotics for a strep throat. It felt like there was a golf ball in my throat for 3 days. Then it went away. But every few days it would come back. Now it seems to come and go. It could be really bad for a few hours then it might not bother me for a day or two. It seems like if I take my mind off it by something distracting, it completely disappears.
You shouldn't treat yourself as it may be the wrong treatment. There are complications you can get from clindamycin also and it is not a good choice. If you have a viral infection you won't need antibiotics. If you had strep throat you wouldn't have an ear infection usually. It can happen but isn't usually the way it presents. Do you have a high fever? Pus in the throat, or rash?
usually it's strep throat but since you've been on antibiotics, hard to tell which is why being seen is a good idea.

old son has had (what 3 doctors) have diagnosed as Erythema Nodosum, but without the change in color (no redness -- rarely a faint pink on the thigh nodules) for the past two years. Three positive strep throat cultures from 1/2006 to 2/2007. No positive strep test since 2/2007. His ASO titer has been between 800 and 1010 range for the last 2 years (last week's 1000).
5 months ago -- claims she has never had STDs, etc, etc. 2 days after I had a VERY sore throat. I was diagnosed with oral strep C and was given antibiotics.

About two days later I noticed I came down with a slight sore throat and the next day it was really bad, so that early friday morning I went to the Er because I noticed my tonsils were really swollen with pus spots on them, the doctor diagnosed me with strep throat and gave me 2 penicillin pills that night, I took four the next day that sunday I started to have really bad pelvic pain.
I just found out that I have made a mistake. It's not streptococcus, but staphylococcus... the new doctor that I went to thinks that my throat problem probably isn't connected to my urinary problem. I am getting a throat culture done tomorrow and semen examination again. He thinks I might have developed urethritis that has turned into a mild prostatitis.
Thank you Mistakeguy789. So I went the doctor, he looked down my throat, said it looked like strep, took a swab (results should be ready early next week), and prescribed Clindamycin. I am encouraged by the fact that after only three doses of this antibiotic, all of my symptoms (chills, headache, bodyache, lack of appetite) are gone and only the sore throat remains.
Can clindamycin kill the bacteria in the back of my throat. I had the same thing happened to me before, I had bacteria on my tonsils and in the back of my throat and I used amoxicillin but it only killed the bacteria on my tonsils. Then from not treating the bacteria in the back of my throat caused my tonsils down my throat to swell so I was prescribed prednisone. It cured.
I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill.
My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections????

I also had pain in my abdomen. I went to the er three days later and got a rapid test done and it was positive for strep throat. I was put on z pack for 6 days. The initial symptoms of chills and mild fever and green stool went away within two days. But I still continued to feel ill like fatigued. And my swollen node was still swollen. I went back to the er after finishing the zpack and they put me on 600 mg a day of clyndamycin. I felt really good the first day on it like i was better.
As far as the cultures, his strep throat swabs were showing pos. results and that is a bacterial infection that the antibiotics were supposed to be treating. Now,told that blood test results show that he hasn't had strep and that he must just be a carrier. So....what type of infection have we been treating over and over and over again??
I noticed that the sore throat cleared up a little while on clindamycin, but it returned. When I had gone to my doctor after two weeks of having a sore throat, she told me that she guesses that it is tonsillitis, but the test came back negative for an infection. I think that's odd, because I definitely see white spots on my tonsils.
I know strep and allergies are definitely two different things, but it could be that if he has an allergy issue, his nasal passages and throat get irritated from that and then an infection occurs - the strep throat. This past winter I, myself, got strep throat twice and pneumonia once - the first bout of strep actually landed me in the hospital for 4 days.
So I caught a bacteria on my throat last month and was prescribed with Amoxicillin. It got rid of the infection, but then right after my tonsils from inside my throat was swollen and was taking Prednisone. It went away. I felt better and now I have it again. A bacteria on my tonsils and I found out I am getting it from my filthy fan. This time the doctor gave me Clindamycin.
