I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill.
My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections????

I got fully tested for all STI's including HIV almost 2 months ago. During that time I was sleeping with my "bf" unprotected but was routinely getting tested and even tested after our relationship ended. I was negative. However, a month ago I slept with this guy I met on tinder (my bf and I had stopped sleeping together). I've always used condoms when I slept with anyone else (besides my bf of course).
I have had a sore throat for a month now. I took azithromycin, the 5 days course, but it did not help. I had also taken clindamycin a week before due to also having a uti. I noticed that the sore throat cleared up a little while on clindamycin, but it returned. When I had gone to my doctor after two weeks of having a sore throat, she told me that she guesses that it is tonsillitis, but the test came back negative for an infection.
He believes that even with the seven days of azithromycin it wasnt enough to fully take my virus away and i still have the issues with the throat. He said since i had the sore throat then these sores are from that and prescribed me ten days of clindamycin and then diflucan to take away the yeast infection the. Clindamycin has always given me. Whats your opinion on this?
Oh by the way the doc said even thou my hsv1 is genital it can still travel up to my mouth? What do you think?
4 days after Amoxicillin, pain came back. Started same way, sore Left side throat, red swollen gum around the tooth, hard white bump, ? Fistula - maybe a piece of bone, painful. Made appt w/ Oral Surg, Rx'd more Amoxicillin, which eventually helped swelling go down. At appt., did x-ray, not catscan. He did not see anything wrong. But, on physical exam of the wisdom tooth, thought he found crack in tooth, below gumline.
Now 6 and 1/2 weeks post exposure I still have this weak pain while urinating and still sore throat for like now 3-4 weeks. I tested for HIV yesterday and it was negative. Please give me some reasonable advice and I don't want to destroy my liver and kindeys with any more useless antibiotics. Thank you.

I had missed one dose of the clindamycin. The er doctor gave me again clindamycin via iv. My face swelled up again but started pussing at my gums after a while. She told me to keep taking it despite the swelling and sent me home with a follow up oral surgeon. I didn't take it all night and my face had gone down to half the size by morning! It felt so much better and lighter. I couldnt get a hold of my dentist or the oral surgeon to ask their opinion on continuing with this antibiotic.
I am currently on Clindamycin and my heart has been racing! I'm about ready to go to the ER.
The only thing that gives me some relief is when I chew gum - however, a short time after I start chewing, I get a sore throat. Sore throat also occurs when it is most thick and sticky. After I take out the gum, my front teeth have a white film on them requiring flossing to get the "gunk" out.
I have also had severe irritable bowel for 30 plus years - I take Azulfidine, zantac, prevacid,immodium and elavil.
I was prescribed a ten day course of clindamycin for a gum infection, which it took care of. Six weeks later I developed severe diarrhea with terrible gut pain and fever. Had blood and mucous in stools an perhaps some intestinal lining. I lost 10 lbs and was very weak and the thought of food made me feel sick.. Emergency room diagnosed clostridium difficile after stool samples and CAT scan. I was put on a 14 day, 4x/day course of oral solution vancomycin which solved the problem.
After going back on clindamycin, fevers and flu feelings were down again, jaw less fluid-filled, but still extremely sore/painful. It took longer for the clindamycin to work this time, and a new doctor concluded I may have developed some resistance to it after being on it for close to 2 months at that point. I was put on Augmentin, but this did nothing for the infection and only made me swell (hands, abdomen, throat) after a few days.
i went to the ENT doctor and gave me clindamycin 300mg 4x a day for 1 week and it cured my throat. on december 2012 i had an ulcer all over my mouth most of them on and under my tongue and it was very painful. im having difficulty eating and drinking. i went to the local clinic and the doctor told me it was herpes by looking at it, and gave me acyclovir 200g 4x a day for a week it cured my ulcers before the week is finished.
t sore or anything but it has a weird feeling and some phlegm in it and still the earache i went to a throat specialist and he said it was a throat infection and prescribed clindamycin but it doesnt seem as though it is working since now my throat feels achy.I was burning while i urinate but i used monistat and it stopped but sometimes it comes back for like a day and then it will stop again.
Could have herpes? Is it possible I have herpes in my throat? and my vagina?
About two days later I noticed I came down with a slight sore throat and the next day it was really bad, so that early friday morning I went to the Er because I noticed my tonsils were really swollen with pus spots on them, the doctor diagnosed me with strep throat and gave me 2 penicillin pills that night, I took four the next day that sunday I started to have really bad pelvic pain.
