Firstly, has he been cultured for strep throat and/or had a rapid strep test done? Secondly, steroids are good for getting inflammation down but they cause you get very immunocompromised. Are these oral steroids and were they actually perscribed by a doctor. I would stop the steroids. He could also have a resistant strain of Strep. so they may need to do a antibiotic sensitivity panel if the culutre is still positive. Lastly, it may virus that he got after the initial infection.
I also have bad sinuses and a recent sinus surgery. So it could be post-nasal drip but the throat thing comes and goes at weird times.
He says it could also be silent reflux. But why would it start now? It doesn't seem to appear after certain foods.
Cough drops can help the problem for a little bit. Also, I feel that it gets a little better after eating. Drinking hot tea can help as well.
I felt as though my whole tongue was burning and it looked unusually white. And then my throat started hurting and feels clogged with mucus. I went to the ER but the doctor couldn't figure it out and didn't think it was oral thrush even though I could scrape the white stuff off. He gave me a benydrill and told me to stop taking clindamycin and took me off antibiotics then sent me on my way.
Hello grace. I went to doc about sores and redness in throat and he swabbed for strep and it came back negative. I asked him if it couldbe my first hsv1 peal outbreak. And he said since i have had them for two to three weeks it would have been gone by now if it was an outbreak. He believes that even with the seven days of azithromycin it wasnt enough to fully take my virus away and i still have the issues with the throat.

old son has had (what 3 doctors) have diagnosed as Erythema Nodosum, but without the change in color (no redness -- rarely a faint pink on the thigh nodules) for the past two years. Three positive strep throat cultures from 1/2006 to 2/2007. No positive strep test since 2/2007. His ASO titer has been between 800 and 1010 range for the last 2 years (last week's 1000).

The initial symptoms of chills and mild fever and green stool went away within two days. But I still continued to feel ill like fatigued. And my swollen node was still swollen. I went back to the er after finishing the zpack and they put me on 600 mg a day of clyndamycin. I felt really good the first day on it like i was better.

About two days later I noticed I came down with a slight sore throat and the next day it was really bad, so that early friday morning I went to the Er because I noticed my tonsils were really swollen with pus spots on them, the doctor diagnosed me with strep throat and gave me 2 penicillin pills that night, I took four the next day that sunday I started to have really bad pelvic pain.
Just from time to time I felt unpleasant smell from it even with taking a shower every day. After like 10 days my throat became very sore and inflaminated for 2 days and then it was better, but still sore, nothing else, no fever, no running nose or anything. My mouth isn't sore only where the throat begins, it's barely visible its red and sore.
I then asked to do a strep swab, but gp said a rapid swab was not available and it would take a few days to get results, so I was given cefuroxime and clindamycin for a week.
At the end of the week it did seem like they were getting better, but the white spots were still present and they were still enlarged.
Thank you Mistakeguy789. So I went the doctor, he looked down my throat, said it looked like strep, took a swab (results should be ready early next week), and prescribed Clindamycin. I am encouraged by the fact that after only three doses of this antibiotic, all of my symptoms (chills, headache, bodyache, lack of appetite) are gone and only the sore throat remains.
I had the same thing happened to me before, I had bacteria on my tonsils and in the back of my throat and I used amoxicillin but it only killed the bacteria on my tonsils. Then from not treating the bacteria in the back of my throat caused my tonsils down my throat to swell so I was prescribed prednisone. It cured. But this time the doctor gave me Clindamycin and the bacteria is going away in the tonsils but not in the back of the throat yet.
I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill.
My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections????

Okay - I've seen this question asked a million places and a million different ways but none of the answers were the same and none of the questions were very much like my situation so I figured I'd give it a try (sorry if you've seen this a ton of times before!).
My boyfriend is in the military and the last two times I've gone to visit him on base I have performed unprotected oral sex and gotten strep throat.
My brother tested positive for strep throat today and I've been around him..they're supposed yo induce on Monday. If I am to come down with strep will they still induce? How soon will strep affect me if I've caught it? And is there anything I can do meanwhile to help fight any bacteria I've already been exposed to?

As far as the cultures, his strep throat swabs were showing pos. results and that is a bacterial infection that the antibiotics were supposed to be treating. Now,told that blood test results show that he hasn't had strep and that he must just be a carrier. So....what type of infection have we been treating over and over and over again??
