By the way, gluconeogenesis is also an energy intensive process, and this makes your body feel sluggish and fatigued. So, how do we avoid insulinogenic effect of high protein, and how to not promote gluconeogenesis? The best diet for this is LCHF.

The "eat low fat" mantra is based on BAD science. even the US CDC says cholesterol in the diet is not a concern. I am back on low carb just to try and take care some of the bloating I have trouble with. I figured out if I give my injection in my leg rather than my stomach it helps some. I recommend the book diabetes solutions by Dr. Richard Bernstein. HE describes how to get excellent control using insulin and lwo carb diet. Even if you don't end up going as low carb as he recommends, you can still use what he teachers and a lower carb approach to get good control.

Avatar f tn I am 17 weeks and have gestational diabetes. Luckily, I'm only having to monitor my blood sugar 4 times a day...so far so good. Hopefully it stays this way so I won't have to go on medication or insulin. Unfortunately, I am what they consider overweight and am predisposed. I have to say this has kept me in check and I have no gained any weight which was expected since I'm on low carb. This has been a blessing on disguise.

But you can adjust the low-carb from being so low in carb that you loose weight into being just the right amount to maintain the correct weight. I do not agree to that one gets sluggish and tired on low-carbs, actually the reverse is my experience. I get sluggish and tired on high-carbs. I get ALOT more energy when I am on a low carb diet.
Avatar f tn The paleo diet is the healthiest form of low-carb diet, IMO. I would not go on a low-carb diet that was composed of low-carb junk food. If you eat a paleo diet, you are only eating real, whole foods (no junk food) and no grains. It's a lot of meat, vegetables, and healthy fats.

As for Ketoacidosis: Dietary ketosis caused by fasting or eating very low carb is not the same thing as DKA (Diabetic ketoacidosis). DKA is a state of exreme and uncontrolled ketosis and will result after a period of time of very high blood sugars.

1855476 tn?1356739693 If you are eating low carb you need to eat more protein and FAT.. fat doesn't make you fat.. you just need to be careful which fats you do eat. Eat olive oil, ghee, butter, coconut oil, cheese, avocado, nuts and seeds, cream, whole milk... stay away from low carb low calorie foods, processed foods, breads, rice, oats.. starchy foods. You'll have lots of success.. you can also check out paleodiet.com, dietdoctor.com or marksdailyapple.com..

I was intrigued by the protein shake and wanted to know how many gms of "sugar alcohols" are in it. With the Atkins craze these days, I've seen a lot of products that are very low carbo ... until I read the fine print ... and discover that there may be 15 or more grams of sugar alcohols.
