Clarithromycin for lyme

Common Questions and Answers about Clarithromycin for lyme

biaxin

Avatar f tn I was on Biaxin, which is brand name for clarithromycin. Why did your MD not check the box for generic, which is generally a lot cheaper but is technically the same drug? It's a fairly common drug. If you order online from a reputable/well-known website, you may be able to get a better price than at the corner pharmacy. If you belong to WalMart or perhaps Target or similar stores, I understand their pharmacy charges are quite reasonable.
1464587 tn?1307491605 Hey -- good to hear from you, just wish you were feeling better. I'm not medically trained, so all this is guess work about what approach I would take if I were going through what you are -- From what I understand, there is usually not much difference in the body's reaction to generic vs brand name meds, such as Biaxin/clarithromycin, but there are some instances when it can occur because of tiny differences between the specific chemical structure of the two medications.
Avatar f tn Could symptons show for me not even hrs after having vaginal/oral intercourse? I have and am being treated for Lyme Dease and one of the meds I take is 500 mg of Clarithromycun twice a day, would that prevent me/get rid of clamydia if I did indeed get it? Also, is it true you need to wait atleast a couple of days after intercourse to get tested for it to be accurate? I'm sorry for spelling/grammar or any stupid questions, it's 2:30 am and I am FREAKING out!
Avatar f tn clarithromycin) and Omnicef (gen: cefdinir), and then switched to Zithromax (gen: azithromycin) and Flagyl (gen: metronidazole). As I recall, the switch in meds was because I was having a bad reaction to treatment, but it may have been that the doc didn't realize my problem was the probiotic I was taking and not the antibiotics. I don't know. So ..
Avatar m tn Clarithromycin isn't the treatment of choice for any STD. However, it would effectively prevent most cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). But not all. Antibiotics, including clarithromycin, have no effect on viruses and therefore cannot prevent herpes, HPV, or HIV.
207972 tn?1230424119 I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and have been treated with antibiotics for 6 months or so now. I also have Hashimoto's thyroid disease. Still looking for a solution for the fatigue. I am on Armour natural thyroid, am about settled on a correct dose for that. I also have depression but am taking Prozac for that. Almost every day I about have to sleep for 2 or 3 hrs every afternoon. Any ideas on what I can do for that problem??
Avatar f tn I have not lab tests supporting Babs, but my LLMD has suspected it (or something else) in addition to Bart and Lyme, each for which I had some (though weak) laboratory evidence. I'm wary of posting too much treatment detail (color me paranoid), but I've been pusling antibiotic therapy using mino, zith, and factive (with detours using bactrim or plaquenil).
Avatar f tn So, had brief encounter with sex worker. I am a male and she a female, just for clarity and accuracy of response though I'm confident that this is irrelevant. In any case, I received oral sex lasting only a couple minutes then shortly after completed with handjob. Anyway, that night I had extreme regrets as this not something I regularly do, only once before. So in my anxious state, I thought it best to be proactive and see if I could prevent any full infection from developing.
Avatar f tn That would be the risk, wouldn't it. Perhaps your doc(s) are thinking of the Lyme bacteria hiding in biofilms that are not dissolved so that the antibiotics can wipe out the bacteria there. To my understanding, that is why two drugs are used against Lyme: a cyst-buster to get through the biofilm and an antibiotic to kill the then-exposed bacteria. Perhaps your docs don't favor using the cyst-busting drugs and are intending just to try to keep them corralled indefinitely.
4939681 tn?1361299299 Per my request my LLMD reluctantly prescribed plaquenil. Like the recent post about denial, I think it was, I'm still riding the fence about what truly is going on with me and until I see the Igenex and biopsy results I probably will doubt everything. I told my LLMD that my biggest problem right now is the enlarged lymph nodes. If I could get them to clear up then I could manage to get out of bed and tackle the other issues.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, My mom was recently diagnosed with Hep C associated cirrhosis. She has had some complications, including esophageal varices and ascites. She remains fairly well compensated and does not exhibit symptoms such as fatigue or confusion. During an endoscopy her doctor also noticed an ulcer and tested her for H pylori (which was positive). He's prescribed Prevpac to kill the bacteria and heal the ulcer.
Avatar n tn These symptoms have continued to worsen for the last 6 months. They are now constant and cover my entire body. The intensity of the symptoms waxes and wanes daily, such that they are usually bearable in the early morning after first waking, but are extremely painful / uncomfortable by the end of the day.
Avatar m tn I also have a constant small balanitis (one small slightly painful spot on penis glans) since July (started after a week of Clarithromycin prescribed for cold) which does not react to anti yeast, abx or noninflammatory ointments (protopic etc). Im negative for Herpes (2 serologies, 1 virus culture and 1 rt PCR) and HPV (1 rt PCR Swab).
Avatar n tn m allergic to Penicillin and Sulfa, I just finished taking Doxycycline for a week and feel better. Thanks for the information.
Avatar m tn Having diarrhea after antibiotics is not rare, but also not normal. I recommend you to have stool test for C-diff and for occult blood. Having problems with breathing is probably from the acid coming up into your throat and then down into lungs. You should fix this promptly, it may damage your lungs (aspiration pneumonia, with lung scars). There's another possibility - alergy to one of antibiotics. Would you say you have any lips or face swelling or skin itching?
Avatar f tn As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole. Macrobid is nitrofurantoin, not clarithromycin. You may also look here: http://www.ehealthme.com/drug_interactions_side_effects/Nexium-2792078.

166496 tn?1236182312 I will have to look at my other test results but I am positive that she tested for other infections the Lyme ticks often carry. I will certainly not ignore further symptoms if they do not disappear. Keeping fingers crossed and saying alot of prayers. I will certainly visit in a few weeks for an update! I appreciate everyones response in this "tough" point concerning my health.
Avatar n tn A wise Lyme MD will know how to take a proper history from you about your travels and symptoms, and then to test for any likely co-infections. (For example, I had Lyme and babesiosis, which is similar to malaria.
