I was diagnosed with OCD when I was 9. I have been on Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro and now Citalopram for 16 years. At this point the citalopram doesn't seem to be working anymore. I have increased my dosage to 80mg a day and have added xanax about .5 mg 2 to 3 times a day about 1 month ago. I am very depressed and I'm worried about forgetting things. I'm worried about getting alheizmers disease. I need to go to see a neurologist and have some tests done.
the list goes on. Some of these things I have felt before the Citalopram. I am also using .25 xanax to help control the anxiety. I could really use some encouragement. I want to keep going and get back to my normal, but the side effects are scary. I have two small kids to take care of and am afraid of the side effects getting even more in the way of taking care of them. Please, any stories to help me on my way would be greatly appreciated! The sister drug to Citalopram is Lexapro, which I have been prescribed for depression, but only because I am on 2 mg per day of Xanax, which is the common medication for panic attacks and anxiety. Xanax is in the class of drugs known as "depressants", which obviously will make you "depressed" thus continuing the 3 ring circus of meds, one to depress you , another to fight the depression, and so on.
Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.
MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression.
Yesterday the dr told me to stop taking the celexa and continue with the xanax. Which I can take up to 4 times a day. I tried citalopram 50 mg back in 2010-2011 but was taken off of it because of increased anxiety and also sucidal thoughts. We decided the dr and I to try a baby dose of citalopram this time and see if it would help. Because I am at a different place now than I was back then. So I have taken 8 doses of the xanax so far which has been half a pill every time.
I am on citalopram 10mg and xanax .25 four times a day. I have a med check on wed with my doc, though I may still call today.
Hello, My doc has me starting citalopram for severe anxiety attacks. She has me on one quarter of a 20 mg tab for four days, then a half tab for four, three quarters for four days and finally a full twenty. Has anyone else started like this? The doc wanted to help me with side effects since I am very sensitive in the stomach. Will starting this slower make the theraputic effects take longer to show. I am desperate to feel normal again. I am on .25 of xanax to help with the transition.
I take Celexa (citalopram) and I have taken Effexor XR in the past. The Effexor was best for my GAD, but I still needed Klonopin (.5 mg 2x a day) to keep the panick attacks away. BTW I quit the Effexor xr because I switched to insurance that only covers generics. I had no problem tapering off it unlike some horror stories I've heard from others. I now take the Celexa and klonopin and seem to be fine for now.
I started Citalopram 12 days ago. First week I took 10mg, then last Saturday started 15mg. I wondered if people have increased anxiety? I am having just bad restless legs, thoughts racing, but very spacy and forgetful, even though I'm super anxious. I have to take a xanax in the morning and at night to cope. The nausea SE went away, but wondered if this other is normal?
I was wondering if anxiety can cause my chest pain off and on during the week. also i am on citalopram and xanax (when i need it), are those medications okay to take or are they harmful in the long run.
About two weeks ago my doc switched me from citalopram to paxil .20. It seemed to completely cures the nausea and frequent runs to the bathroom. She gave me klonopin .50 to help me sleep and not wake up with the anxiety. I actually sleep almost the whole night and wasn't paniced when I did. I was feeling good. I was still taking four xanax .25 a day, but began to ween off. Now I am down to one a day. I have been feeling good. I have been able to eat. I was not as afraid to be alone.
I had been on citalopram which work great 4my anxiety and deppresion.im nw pregnant.1st i got told to stop cold turkey with the citalopram which i did but i start getting extreme anxiety after afew weeks.and dr put me on prozac which is ment to be less risky during pregnancy.ive been on it 4 2weeks now.ive seen no improvement and im scared it will harm baby.i have constant physical anxiety all day my heart races and my chest has this horrible feeling of dread.help! Can just 10MG of Citalopram Hydrobromide cause night sweats? I've been taking that the last two mornings and during the last two nights I've had 2-3 separate night sweats each night. My back is covered with sweat and leaves a football size stain on the mattress sheet. I also take 0.5MG of Xanax right before bed each night.
Yes, because I started on Remeron in April 07 with xanax - and have begun weaning off xanax in October 07. (still taking the mirtazapine/remeron - 30 mg).
It's now 4 months later, and I'm on a very low dosage of Xanax and fortunately, the extreme anxiety/trembling that I was suffering from has not returned.
Now, I'm trying to discontinue the xanax completely.

I take .5mg of xanax. I don't take it every day, but I do take it 5 out of the 7 days. I was on prozac for a year and then switched to 20mg of lexapro once a day. I want off the xanax and lexapro and know in order to do it right, you have to wean yourself off of it. What would the best way be to wean myself off of these medications so that I have the least side effects possible?
I'm 24 just for diagnosis with depression and panic disorder! Ive been taking celexa since January 'which improved my mood! But I've been lightheaded for two months and I get a weird feeling in my head its very scary I feel like I'm going to pass out! I also been prescribed 0.5 Xanax that I don't take! My eyes feel funny, I can't concentrate, some stuff look funny! .

Months of this. I am down to 10 mg of citalopram. My anxiety is off the charts. I honestly think I am in the middle of a nervous breakdown. The hardes thing is I am having complete panic attacks when I sleep.
Anyways told my doc about panic attacks before and he prescribed 20mg citalopram i havent collected them yet and wasnt planning on it but now my panic and anxiety is so bad i cant carry on with uni like this. The thought of taking them scares me though, in addition to reading all the side effects a pill affecting my brain chemistry is worrying :-/ and i need to be able to carry on with school I dont have time off!!! Nobody knows im even having these problems...

I was sick with H1N1 and then hospitalized with Pnemonia in late Oct/early Nov.
Pnemonia cleared up but I was still sleeping 20 hours a day and having hot flashes, tingling.
Did a slew of tests (chest x-ray, VQscan, blood work (CBC, Thyroid, sed rate, etc) all came back okay.
To treat the anxiety i started on Citalopram and this medication only made me very tired. (falling asleep in class). after talking with my counselor i started back on Add meds 2 days ago starting at 50mg Vyvanse. Once again just as focalin did this made me very sick last night causing the palor and tremor just as focalin had. I experienced twitches and insomnia last night got 2 hours of sleep but and 5 the night before but am awake but i feel terrible.
