m also on citalopram. I was on 20 mg. for quite sometime. I had started to drink heavily and then I was getting vertigo sensations even during the day when I was sober. I'd have the swaying and feeling like I'm falling or sinking sensations. Then one week I started having severe anxiety and panic attacks. My doctor upped my citalopram to 40 mg and my anxiety isn't as bad but I still get the vertigo feeling even though I stopped drinking.

Hello, I have been given Citalopram 10mg to take and not sure if I should or not. I have been dealing with issues for about a year now of getting lightheaded and feeling of passing out which I have done a few times, very scary, hot/cold flashes, sweats, crying spells, numbness of feet and tingleing in my right pinky, ear ringing and many more issues. I have went to an ENT, neurologist, cardiologist.

m bad with anxiety and my depression has seriously gotten worse to the point that i was put back on citalopram 20mg, and i started smoking again :( I'm waiting on a blood test but....just what is it thats doing this?, has anyone else encountered this?

I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!

I've been on Celexa for years but sometimes I'll forget to take my pill for a couple days and then when I go back to taking it I have extreme vertigo most of the day. It's not so bad sitting down but when I'm standing up in one spot or moving around I have the sense of losing my balance or like I'll fall over. It's hard for me to drive in this state too because it feels like my eyes want to cross.

Combining Alprax and Citalopram can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. Hi Sorry to burst your bubble but you will suffer withdrawals mine took a few weeks to kick in I came off effexor. But I know my group that Citalopram is not easy to come off you would be better going back on it and weaning off slowly follow cita's withdrawal programme my support group they are on the web.

Let me get this straight. You have a psychiatrist who took you off an antidepressant in just one week? And isn't dealing with the withdrawal problem? The minimum taper should have been six weeks from my experience. You also should research Buspar. See if you think it actually works much of the time. And if your anxiety is related to the heart problem, the beta blocker should theoretically at least have solved that problem.

Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?

Well I saw a new doctor and he is weaning me off citalopram (1/2 a pill a day). He thinks it made me gain weight. I kmow take wellbutrin (twice a day). I hope this helps me lose the weight. I doubt that the Citalopram is even working for you after 3 years. Muscle twitches are not a side effect of this medication, so you should consult with your doctor regarding this new symptom. You also want to wean off the Citalopram via your doctor's instructions. I'm happy to hear that therapy is helping you and wish you continued success with it.

I take atenolol 100mg daily , and also citalopram ( an SSRI) 10mg daily, no problems whatsoever. Hope you feel better soon. I'm bias with citalopram because of all SSRI it is usually less likely to interact with other drugs and also has the least side effects profile, I feel like a new person since being on it.

I was just diagnosed with anxiety issues and they put me on xanax for the panic attacks that I can't control and also Citalopram for the daily use to keep me mello. They say I won't feel the full effect for a couple of weeks but I can feel like it's doing something because I don't have any attacks until about an half hour before I need to take my pill. Hey I'm 20 and have been on citalopram for a year and a half, I have decided to come off it because of the fatigue it caused which is not good for student life generally, also the loss of interest in sex is not great either. I think my doctor is confused with me as I went on one day saying i was anxious about being on them and I had started halving my tablet due to the excessive tiredness. Hi, You've been on the citalopram since December and you were having trouble eating? Was this because of the side effects you were describing? I am surprised the GP upped the dose when you were presenting with these problems and then kept you on them. As LCC has said this med is not one that is known for major side effects. If you had none of these symptoms prior to starting the med then I would go back to your GP and insist on a change. There are so many anti-depressants out there.

I have taken this type of SSRI in the past with good results. Just as she said, these are conditions not to be ashamed of and should be treated and confronted just like any ailment..be it physical or mental. In my experience with these types of medications, most side effects waned in a couple of weeks or so, but again we are all different. The most important step your son can take in my opinion is confronting the anxiety through talk therapy.
