Avatar n tn Hello, Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic used for an infection and phenazopyridine or pyridium is used in urinary tract infections, surgery, or injury to the urinary tract. If you are taking them for a UTI then you can take both of them or as presecribed by your doctor. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn Urinalysis and urine culture are definitive diagnosis of a urinary tract infection. This may respond well to antibiotic management. The choice of drug and length of treatment depend on your medical history and the urine tests that identify the offending bacteria. Many doctors prescribe antibiotics for a week or two to ensure that the infection has been cured. Other tests such as intravenous pyelogram may also be indicated. Take care and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn Ive had a urinary tract infection for going on 6 weeks now. Ive been treated over and over and nothing seems to be getting rid of it. I dont have a regular dr so I am relying on trips to the er to help me. I am now so sick with the infection that I am throwing up and am in so much pain. I have a very serious history of kidney stones as well which doesnt help much either. I just had my last stone removed about 3 weeks ago.
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor last week with lower backpains and a tingling sensation when I urinated. I was diagnosed with a prostate infection and given Ciprofloxacin (500mg) for 10 days. I finished the medicine yesterday. The tingling went away and the pains lessened. This morning, my partner and I had sex, I ejaculated, and everything felt fine except that my scrotum was a bit sensitive, but not unbearable. I proceeded to urinate just fine, then there was a blockage in my stream.

Avatar n tn Hi, although drugs like ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily is usually recommended for urinary tract infection, but one should go by urine culture sensitivity report. For pain associated with infection drugs like ibuprofen, diclofenac etc are prescribed as they have potent anti inflammatory action. Please follow doctor’s advice and avoid self medication.

Avatar n tn You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics. If your dog has crystals in his urine, the crystals would need to be identified and treatment instituted. Crystals can be dangerous in male dogs because if they become large enough they can become lodged in the urethra and cause blockage (even in dogs, though more common in male cats).
Avatar f tn I’m 20 years old. I have a urinary tract infection(coliform). A doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 625mg + Tamsulosin medicine for 10 days to me. I have a side effect after taking Tamsulosin (Retrograde ejaculation) or any other ejaculation problem. Is this normal or should I stop using Tamsulosin? Or will it (Retrograde ejaculation ) recover after stop using ten days? Should I keep getting Tamsulosin for 10 days or stop?
Avatar m tn The pain feels like my pelvic floor region is tightening up and pulling the scrotum and penis inwards. Around the anus it feels hot and tight. The whole area feels 'pinched' and sore. I also experience pain at the base of the penis, which seems to shift to pelvic floor region. The pain comes and goes in waves. I was re-tested for STD's, and all came back negative.
Avatar f tn How do you tell the difference between a urinary tract infection and yeast infectiy?

Avatar n tn Four weeks ago I began experiencing irritation and sever burning in my urinary tract. I went to a doctor, and they of course thought it might be an std. They gave me a 'cocktail' of antibiotics, as well as running urinalysis and blood test. A few days later it got very extreme, painful and burning. I went back to see the Dr and he had the test back... normal. They also prescribed Ciprofloxacin, which I took for 10 days, with no change.
Avatar m tn Sometimes i also get a throbbing/shooting pain in the kidney/lower back area and around the pelvis. I went to the doctors a month ago, thinking it would be a urinary tract infection, was pescribed ciprofloxacin for 10 days, no improvement. Urine test results come back= no infection. So im due a scan soon (not sure what type of scan) and any help would be appriated.
Avatar m tn You could have a urinary tract infection that didn't respond to the doxy and might need another antibiotic, such as ciprofloxacin. After you get treated with the proper medication, your symptoms should go away completely. NGU is a general term that means "nongonococcal urethritis" which is basically inflammation of the urethra not caused by gonorrheal infection. It could be due to a variety of things.
Avatar m tn Thank you and I will! Although, before my symptoms started I hadn't spent any time inside a hospital and I hadn't had any kind of urinary tract procedure done Can one get this infection outside of a hospital?
Avatar f tn It is rare for symptoms of urethral (lower urinary tract) STDs to start more than 10-14 days after a sexual exposure. And even in persons with relatively high risk exposures, STDs are quite uncommon in persons over 40 years old, even rarer at age 60. Further, non-STD urinary tract infections (UTI) are very frequent at that age and in the presence of an enlarged prostate.
