I ahve had stones with terrible pain and stones with little or no pain.......that kind of pain was only maneable for me with morphine....so I don't envy you. I was only clearly diagnosed the first time because I pass them at the hospital and they were large enough to see....but I have also had them many times where I must have passed them without even noticing.

I thought that maybe I had pulled a muscle in my back even though I didn't even throw the ball that many to times since my lower left side of my back had been hurting. Felt like labor pains Monday night it hurt so bad. On Cipro now. I just wondered if anyone else has unexpected kidney infections too.

Hi, I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives. From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.

Even though I took all of these meds, can it be that I still have a UTI , kidney infection or kidney disease? I am in the process of getting a renal and pelvic sonogram but it is a long time from now because of the holidays. Please help! Pain is unbearable.

You could have an obstruction or an infection in the kidney. I was quite close to dying from kidney failure when I was given the wrong antibiotics to take. This is nothing to mess around with. Please go to the ER, see a urologist, GP or urgent care.

I am 29 and I took cipro about 8 months ago for a kidney infection and after I took it for a few days I developed pain, tingling and crawly feelings on my back. I didn't realize that it could be from the cipro. I finished the prescription and went on to develop severe back pain between my shoulder blades and tingling skin in my arms and legs. I felt like my arms and legs had sunburn and it was hard to wear clothes sometimes. I went to a neurologist and a rhumey.

Urologist visit negative for any other issues other than UTI - remain on medication and return in 6 wks if pain continues. GYN visit negative for any issues. Pain subsided 5th day on Cipro, but returned on 8th day. Currently on the 9th day of medication. New symptom - throwing up on the 7th, 8th and 9th day.

My doctor checked my urinalysis (which I did take after the 2nd round of cipro, and they also did a culture) and said she found sodium urate crystals in my urine. Her suggestion was to decrease my protein and alcohol intake (I'm an extremely healthy 29 yr old female), and to start drinking cherry juice on a daily basis to flush out the sodium urate crystals.

I have looked at symptoms of kidney infection and the only part that fits is the throbbing back pain. No fever, no nausea or vomiting, chills. I am fatigued, but I haven't been sleeping well because if the throbbing pain. I have been drinking plenty of fluids, cranberry juice and lots of water. I hate to waste the money on another doctor visit if they are just going to give me a muscle relaxer for back pain.

Haven't had one of these since I was cathed after giving birth to our first son 7.5 years ago. I sort of thought something like this might be coming on, but woke up today with the obvious signs. Now I'm wondering if part of my "back" pain isn't really "kidney" pain. I do have hematuria, in addition to the WBCs, etc. Getting antibiotics this afternoon.

Yes, I have taken Cipro this past year more than any person should, but it was for documented --potentially life threatening -- UTI or kidney stone related infections including hydronephrosis. I stay away from any of the fluro's at all cost and beg for an alternative antibiotic because of the warning above. But some of my infections have been so serious there's the risk/benefit.

Usually if I catch them early the Cipro starts working pretty fast, but not this time. By 7pm I was in severe pain and starting a fever. It was 99.9 with chills when I first measured it. It is now up to 100.6 and still hurts a lot in spite of also using that analgesic for bladder pain, and the scary thing is that the urine has something in it, little clumps and strings, that look like blood.

Some people are only born with one kidney, and if imaging and function tests of your kidney are normal, the pain is not likely related to this incidental finding.

Am now back on 10 more days of same antibiotic but this time am having lower pelvic pain amd discomfort. Could this be something other than a UTI? Urine culture showed a bacterial infection. Is it common for this to take 1 or 2 courses of antibiotics to clear up?

Causes can be divided according to the affected organ and they are Kidney conditions (infection, pyelonephritis, kidney stones, polycystic kidney disease), Bladder conditions (cystitis, bladder polyp, bladder tumor), Urethral conditions (Sexually transmitted diseases, urethral injury, vaginal inflammation), and certain bleeding disorders. She had been readmitted a day after her surgery for 3 days for pain management. She had a CT scan done and the doctor said she was clear of kidney stones. Currently she can't sit up or stand for more than 5 minutes without being in extreme pain. She is on 2x Hydrocodone 7.5/325mg and it's not helping with the pain. My right part of urethra feels tender per GYN. The swab for STD/STI were negative. However, my urine came back positive for E.Coli. So I was prescribed Cipro, but I had an allergic reaction to it. They then said i had a yeast infection from medication. and put me on Cipro, and still had pain.. so then they put me on for a irriated urtheia (sorry my spelling isn't to great) I was on this for 2x a day for 30 days. Again i started to feel better, then a week later.. I had the burning/soreness back and the urologist put me on Cipro again. This has been going on for 8months and now the dr just throws cipro at me.

Today was my last day of antibiotics and I still have intense pain on my right flank. I also have kidney stones but that was ruled out last Thursday as their was no blood in my urine. First of all I have kidney stones ever present inside my kidney. They don't usually cause problems. About 3-4 weeks ago, I started having symptoms resembling a stomach bug (diarrhea) and fatigue for a couple of days, then started having flank pain. Back in June or so I began getting right flank pain. Sometimes it was so severe it work me up in the middle of the night. The pain would come and go but since it was not "that bad" I ignored it. ob did a new culture which has not came back yet ,put me on bactrim and same pain reliever now i feel like pyridium isnt working for pain anymore and am about 2 finish bactrim 5 day 2morrow with same symptoms ! I am confused because i feel like nothing is working & thus extremely frustrated & irritable . I work full time & care 4 my newborn so this is beginning 2 really affect my life .

I have a 15 yr. history with kidney stones. I had my most recent attack 3 weeks ago and it was one of the longest enduring of any I've had, with the most severe flank and ureter pain lasting almost 12 hrs. The last couple hours of the horrible pain, I experienced what I would almost call spasms very low down, and I've never had that before in any of the other attacks. I had waves of pain and the urge to urinate every few minutes.

Resently Doctor decided to take Urine test and found bladder infection and gave me CIPRO as an antibiotic. I feel rush under my ribs and pain in the back (right side). Do you think that this infection can cause that? I am still taking this CIPRO things and hope that this'll help. Do you know if lymph nodes can case pain or infection could go up from bladder and affect other areas? Please help!

This is day is day 3 of the pills and i was wondering how long until it starts working? i am not in nearly as much pain as I was, but the pain with urination is still there slightly and get worse at night.
