Common Questions and Answers about Cipro and hives

cipro

Avatar m tn Took another benadryl which helped for about 4 hours (and knocked me out again) and the hives and swollen lip came back. Called in again and he said to switch off the Benadryl and try Loratadine. This does not seem to be controlling it so well (took it 2 hours ago). So its been about 30 hours since the last Cipro dose. If it was indeed a Cipro allergy, how long before it should go away?
Avatar n tn I was told to continue my dosage of Cipro adn to take Benadryl. After I was done with the Cipro, I still had hives. My hives would be very itchy, swollen adn would come on one part of my body, then after a couple of minutes dissapear and appear on another part. I was given Preginsone for 5 days and continued with the Benadryl. This did nothing. Then I was given Reactin which helped reduce the amount of hives and the itch. I was on Reactine for a bit over a week.
Avatar n tn My husband has been diagnosed with diverticulitis and is being treated with Flagyl and Cipro. He now has a fever and terrible stomach pain and a hives like rash on his face and a slight fever. He has had three doses and I am wondering what to do.
Avatar f tn Hi Diane, Just finished reading your comments. Product names : Cipro, Ciloxan. Ciprofloxacin, a quinolone antibacterial, is used to treat several types of bacteria resistant to other commonly used antibiotics. It is especially useful for some types of chest infections, and skin, intestinal , and urinary tract infections. Possible Adverse Effects Ciprofloxacin commonly causes nausea and vomiting; other side effects are less common, except when high doses are given.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives. From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.

Avatar n tn I went to dr today and was diagnosed with Bronchitis and I am currently on a steroid and cipro antibiotic they gave me a breathing treatment and took xrays and said its not pneumonia my concern is I have had unexplained migraimes for 13 years now even spent time in headache treatment and thay could not identify them. I have now for about the last year been suffering with anxiety issues and hives continiously as well as pains in the joints of my fingers.
Avatar m tn I have had about 8-10 episodes, treated successfully with cipro and flagyl. In July 2014, I got hives on day 6 of treatment. Medication was stopped but dvt continued to improve. I am also allergic to penicillin (erythema nodosum) and clindomyecin (rash). I was advised to have a sigmoid colectomy to reduce episodes of dvt. I had the surgery in February 2015. I am currently on a river cruise in Europe. I had a flare of dvt which presented as it always does four days ago. I went to a doctor at St.
1778927 tn?1381878747 I ignored it. Over the next few months it would still come and go. In October I developed hives and went to the doctor. While there for hives I mentioned the right flank pain. She said lets watch it but treat the hives first. I was given a steroid injection and sent home. The hives went away after about 7 days and all seemed back to normal. One day out of nowhere I began getting a bitter/metal taste in my mouth. No matter what I did it always seemed to creep back in.
1624182 tn?1299190828 Nonetheless, a few hours later, she broke out in hives. She took benadryl, and the hives were gone in a few hours. Next week we had sex again with a latex condom without spermicide. She, again, broke out in hives. Took another benadryl, and the symptoms went away. A few days later, she was complaining of itching and burning when she urinated. Went to the doc and they confirmed a UTI. Gave her Cipro for a week and it went away.
Avatar f tn I just got checked by an ENT and she thought I might have a sinus infection due to the dripping in my throat and gave me Cipro which my body couldn't handle and I broke out in hives, test came back negative. I feel like my right ear is filled with liquid yet when my ENT looked in there she said everything looked normal. I was just wondering if anyone else with Chiari has had any issues similar to mine and if so what did you or your doctor find.
Avatar n tn The CT scan showed an inflamed kidney. The doctor now believes a kidney infection and has prescribed cipro and Tylenol and Ibuprofen for pain. After 5 days, the pain (while not constant) has not diminished. He often has the chills and a fever that runs 2-3 degrees above normal. One other (possibly not related) issue is that his pain is usually most significant early morning (possibly due to 8 hours of sleep with no tylenol/ibuprofen).
Avatar f tn Hi, I can tell you that I had baterial vaginosis last year and only took cipro not the gel and everything was fine.. I've also took cipro for a uti..
Avatar f tn After having a burning sensation when I pre and irritation. In my vaginal area inside my urethra, I recently discovered that I have a UTI and was prescribed the drug Bactrim. I am suppose to take it twice a day for 3 days. Anyway, I have a history of being allergic to antibiotics and getting the "rare" side effects. I was reading the side effects of Bactrim and I am horrified and super worried! I don't react very well to antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I am being treated for a urinary infections with both antibiotics (Cipro) and antivirals (valtrex) because the cause is unknown. My question is, is it safe to mix both medicines?
Avatar n tn I have taken Cipro for Urniary Tract Infections on and off for about 7 years. Last year the frequency of infections was about every 2 months. This winter I have had less than a month between symptoms. My doctor gave me a prescription for Macrobid in case I need it. I have taken it for the first time the past three days and the infection is still quite apparent especially during the night when I can feel the internal discomfort.
Avatar f tn I then got severe diarrhea that sent me to a clinic here. I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and given Cipro 500mg and another medicine for the diarrhea. Two days after my medication was finished (he only gave me 3 days worth) I began to have an itchy rash appear around my toes. I applied Benadryl cream which did not help. It began to spread to the top and bottom of my foot and I tried hydro cortisone cream which did not help.
Avatar f tn Be careful with using Cipro and other antibiotics and use it only as directed by your Physician. I was misdiagnoised with a urinary tract infection that time showed it wasn't and was prescribed Cipro. This drug and others in its class have a nasty side effect - mine was labral tears of the right shoulder and right hip. My Mother suffers from sinus infections and she has found that her Chiropractor successfully treats her by draining her sinus.
Avatar n tn Do cipro cause vaginal discharge and oder and disconfort in my stomach and back and sluggishness? This discussion is related to Discomfort after taking Cipro.
Avatar m tn Im traveling in mexico and got pretty sick (my best guess is it was 'Travelers Diarrhea' or maybe food poisioning) I went to the pharmacy and got 500mg Cipro pills. I took one and got a horrible headache and vomitted alot. My symptoms seem to be gone however would it be a bad idea to stop taking the Cipro? I know people say you should always finish a course of antibiotics but in this case I dont know if I need them.
Avatar f tn Thanks u guys!
Avatar m tn I have taken cipro a lot too and it hasn't bothered me before. But I recently took it and after 1 dose my heart started acting weird. Any antibiotic of that class can cause heart palpitations. Unfortunately, most of the antibiotics I can take have that potential side effect, I'm allergic to penicillin.
Avatar n tn I took 1 dose of 500mg Cipro Friday night at 5:30p.m. Immediately felt flushed and red in the face. I continue to have flare ups 3 days later. How long does this take to go away.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take 125 mg of cipro each day for 6 months I was prescribed this for a UTI that keeps coming back. Also the pharmacy that filled the prescription gave me 250mg tablets and told me they aren't made in 125mg. and for me to break in half . But the info that comes with the meds says not to break.crush, or chew.
Avatar n tn no, it will effect the medication and either make it not work or intensfy. it will say on the bottle of the medication not to take the meds. with alcohol.
Avatar m tn I had to take 20 days of Cipro for prostate infection. The e coli count was > 100,000. It took 4 or 5 day to take the temperature down and then it was a matter of getting through the 20 days. Right after I got off of Cipro (~2days) I was feeling constipated, A week after (yesterday) I realized my spleen was swollen (first time ever). Wife is a nurse and new where it was located.
Avatar f tn Today the pain level is down a little, but this lovely little fever keeps coming back-which makes me cranky and whiny. I finally read about Cipro and Flagyl and connected them to my recent dizzy spells and fatigue...duh. Started the antibiotics Monday night and can't take any kind of nsaids or pain killers thanks to the slowly healing gastritis. Feeling a little bit better for longer periods of time today. Oh, and I did have a colonoscopy a little over a year ago.
Avatar f tn Please be very careful with Cipro. Look up all the side effects of this on the computer ASAP. I was on cipro 250mg for one month then doctor raised it to 500mg. I no sooner took the larger dose than I started to jerk in sleep and had problems with numbness/tingling in both arms from elbow to finger tips. Shook like i had parkinsons. I will NEVER take cipro again!
Avatar n tn My allergist has not prescibed cortisone because it is only a short term solution and the hives usually come back with a vengence. I am presently controlling my Hives with 10 mg of Zyrtec and then 50 mg of Benadryl, both taken at night. Here is a list of potenial hive aggravating foods and medications: beer, berries, chocolate, citrus, nuts, shellfish, tomatoes, wine. Medications: Aspirin, Non-steroidal/ antiinflammatory drugs (such as Alleve, Advil, etc), and codeine preparations.
