Avatar m tn I have had chronic hives weeks following a the hep B vacc in 1996. I have autoimmune thyroid disease as well. The hives have never gone away, I have used hydrooxychloroquine, which helped a LOT all my numbers came down such as Sed rate, thyroid antibodies. With almost a year of so called remission. I went off the med and with in 3 months the hives are back and harder to control. Do you have any idea if 1. The vacc could have started this mess. 2. A safe treatment plan.
Avatar f tn By chance are you under a LOT of stress in your daily life? Hives are sometime the body's way dealing with stress. They often DO happen at night and are sometimes on the warmer areas of the body, like inner thighs, waist, under arms or under breasts in women. You can treat them, but IF the cause is the stess, getting rid of it will stop the hives.
Avatar f tn I am now going on having chronic hives for 8 years. I do have allergies, but have seen allergists, dermatologists, general practioners, etc. I've been on predinesone, benadryl, attarax, doxepin, zytec, etc., etc. Nothing worked. I finally quit taking everything and take Benadryl when I can't stand it anymore. My hives cycle and go from the size of a pinky nail to plates, there is not a place on my body that I've never had one.
Avatar f tn I have chronic acid reflux and hives for the past 20 years. I discuss this with my gastro doc many times as I have a terrible break out of hives each time I have a painful acid reflux attack. He doesn't seem to care. Anyway, please let me know what you find out. I take medication on a daily basis for both. I just had another bout of both (hives first) following a cold/sinus infection. By the way, I was going to a well known mold specialist for many years.
Avatar m tn These hormonal changes cause the body a great deal of stress and stress is one of the important factors thought to be causing hives. Although urticaria usually is idiopathic, but stress is an important causative factor. Regular medications with antihistaminics and steroids during hives flare up has shown that in approximately 75% of patients, chronic hives are found to gradually or spontaneously diminish within 6-8 months.
Avatar m tn Like so many useful and informative posts here on this mesage baord (and thank-you for that), I have all of a sudden been experiencing hives out of the blue for the last 6 months: Note: I am otherwise an extraordinarily above average healthy happy active person. The pattern has been this: I get hives mostly in the evenings (after 9:00 PM) They last about 2 hours. Mostly on my forearms but also on my legs and back. Scratching seems to make them come up and come up more.
Avatar f tn So, I've been having chronic hives. Sometimes it's just one, sometimes it's twenty. They usually itch for about an hour or two, then stop itching, and then slowly fade away within about twelve hours. They seem to be a big fan of my lower spine, all around my waist (especially the front of my hips), the front of my knees, and my shoulders. Basically, they're concentrated in areas where my clothing or my joints apply pressure to the skin.
Avatar f tn Hives is phenomena that happens when the environment suddenly becomes toxic to the person or the person goes through an unnatural level of stress within minutes. Depending on the stress levels, after the stress has subsided the body reacts with Hives. Hives is a sign of low immunity within the body and the person themselves needs to live a different life away from tension and fear. There is an inherent gripping fear of some kind and Hives is physical reaction to it.
Avatar n tn t even see the rash, when I told him bendryl helped, he told me since that helped he thinks it is an allergic reaction. Said I had chronic hives, and they could go away in one week, one month, one year or ten years. Let me tell you I will be crzy before the 10 years is up. Told me to take zyrtec, I could take up to 4 a day safely. If I don't get relief come back. I have nausea off and on with them, and now my skin is getting sore. I have been tested for lupus and it was negative.
Avatar n tn In November 09 I got my first itchy spot. It was gone the next morning. I didn't get another one until Feb 2010. I continued to get one or two hives of random shapes in random places at random times. Sometimes a day or two apart other times months in between. They started to be more frequent and worse and more and more hives. Jan. 14, 2011 I was covered with hives. I went to a doctor and all he told me was that I had chronic hives.
Avatar f tn Appearance It doesn’t have to be visible to hurt a lot but when it’s been going for a while then I develop a red rash and hives that can be hard to get rid of. Frequency Almost every day. The pain level ranges from a 5-7 on an average day. On a bad day, which is 1-2 days a week, the pain level is an 8-9 making it hard to move around or focus on anything. Sometimes I am lucky to have a low pain day 1-4 about once a week. I can’t remember the last time I had a 0 pain day.
Avatar f tn Regular medications with antihistaminics and steroids during hives flare up has shown that in approximately 75% of patients, chronic hives are found to gradually or spontaneously diminish within 6-8 months. In 90-95% of cases, the symptoms disappear within 2 years. So please consult a dermatologist and get prescribed antihistaminics. Also start the treatment of thyroid disease. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn My otherwise healthy 9 year old has been suffering from chronic hives for about 6 months (anywhere between 3-6 times a week). Allergy tests were not helpful. He was not allergic to anything specific. Although the control area did show a reaction to something. The hives are occasionally accompanied with mild swelling on the extremities and they are extremely itchy. We are now checking for autoimmune disorders. Results are not in yet. Hopefully this is not it.

Avatar n tn I have been suffering from chronic uticeria (hives) for the past 4 months. I have seen my PCP, dermatologist and OBGYN. I have a copper IUD, however everyone tells me this is not the reason for the hives. I have worn a copper ring and have had no reaction. I have had two skin biopyses along with numberous lab tests.Predisone does not help nor does benadryl seem to work. The hives are on my back and torso and are now starting to go down my legs.
Avatar n tn Hi, Hives usually appear suddenly and go away on their own in a matter of days, hours, or even minutes. Chronic hives, however, can last for six weeks or more. Certain people have recurring outbreaks of hives for months or even years, and it's sometimes difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. Apart from food, medications, pollen and insect bites which are common triggers, exposure to heat, cold, or sunshine can also trigger them in some individuals.

Avatar f tn Hello~Do your anti-histamines have aspirin in them? The only thing I can think of is your blood could be getting thinner due to the drugs. As to the hives, if you are under an abnormal amount of stress, this will bring them on and they won't leave until the stress gets resolved.
Avatar f tn I have had chronic hives for over 5years. I have tried antihistamines...the only time they go away is when I have been pregnant with my two kids or on steroids both of which I cant stay or be on forever. I am at my breaking point...my eyes swell I get huge knots on my scalp and they itch like crazy. I just want to be normal again...I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for treatment/diagnosis etc....
Avatar n tn Hives usually appear suddenly and go away on their own in a matter of days, hours, or even minutes. Chronic hives, however, can last for six weeks or more. Foods (commonly eggs, shellfish, nuts, berries, dyes, or other additives) and drugs (any drug can touch off an allergic reaction, although allergies to penicillin, sulfa, and aspirin are especially common) are common causes of this outbreak.
Avatar f tn Typically, chronic hives go away on their own, whether you treat them or not. About half of all chronic cases clear up within a year, though some cases can take as long as five years. A very small percentage of people are plagued by hives for even longer. You can consider allergy shots if your symptoms don't seem to respond well to medication or if you have year-round allergies and prefer not to be on medication all the time.
