Chronic pancreatitis diet plan

Common Questions and Answers about Chronic pancreatitis diet plan

pancreatitis

Avatar m tn Hi, I saw a post of a case similar to mine where the liver was affected as well as the pancreas with wieght gain instead of loss on a low fat diet. Im wondering what causes that especially in pancreatitis? I loss alot of weight a year ago, was real sick with abnormal bruising and weakness, falling down, ect, this was before pancreas started acting up again, prior to that I had only one acute episode of pancreatitis.
1300834 tn?1273123354 Fat is the enemy where pancreatitis is concerned. My own personal opinion of prescription diets is that they aren't formulated for chronic conditions, whether for pancreatitis, kidne failure or anything else. They really should really only be used for short-term, acute problems rather than a chronic illness. Read the label on the prescription food and compare it to ingredients in other high-quality foods like Evo. If your dog does fine on a quality commercial food, that's great!
Avatar n tn i am so glad I finally found someone with the same problem as I have, chronic pancreatitis. I have been going on a trial and error diet and don't want to get the pain and misery again! I did broil some chicken breast and had no problems. Also can eat about 2 ounces of tuna packed in water. As the pancreatitis has caused me to be diabetic that also causes problems. I am eating several small meals each day. Wouold be glad of any suggestions that have worked for some body else.
Avatar m tn What makes me now wonder about chronic pancreatitis is that in the weeks following the disappearance of the rash the back pain has been joined by a pain in the pit of my gut or just below the rib cage at the upper stomach after eating a bigger meal or at night. Again, it is not debilitating but usually takes an hour or so to subside. I'm not a big drinker, and in fact have had no alcohol (or any other vice) for probably 5 months in effort to lose weight.
Avatar f tn 8 Her diet started out as Hills diet G/D (not K/D because of her pancreatitis). She has lost ~4.5 pounds since she was diagnosed. I have tried a homecooked diet specialized for kidney failure while also considering her pancreatitis. Still struggling to get her to eat. Does anyone have any pointers on how to handle this?
Avatar f tn Once you have an attack you are likely to get it again . Did they say chronic pancreatitis or acute? If acute I would think they would keep you in the ER. People with CP often end up taking digestive enzymes to help digest food and they often are advised to eat very low fat and avoid alcohol and smoking. You can have flares of acute pancreatitis so always go to er if you feel it coming on.
Avatar n tn I subsequently developed chronic pancreatitis and was diagnosed with Sphincter of Oddi. Rather than have the invasive surgery I went on a strict, fresh chicken soup diet with supplements ordered by an Ayruvedic doctor. Within 2 years I was completely recovered and could eat anything. However, last year I began to develop symptoms of pain in the center and left quadrant of my upper abdomen, nausea, mild weight loss. I would feel sick if I ate and sick if I didn't.
Avatar f tn How long can someone live (approx) with Chronic Pancreatitis when they are a heavy drinker? I have a family member that was Diagnosed with this and continues to drink heavy! He has had many attacks! This last time they wanted to place him in ICU but he checked him self out against Medical advise! If he continues to drink like this what will happen to him? Worried!!!
Avatar n tn Were you diagnosed with acute or chronic pancreatitis? What was said to be the cause? Did they make pancreatic function tests? Have you other diseases?
20820562 tn?1524877846 The pancreatitis is perhaps the main concern. Do you feed a high fat diet? That is known to inflame bouts of pancreatitis, so reducing the fat content of meals is a good plan.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Do you have chronic pancreatitis? It can cause poor absoprtion of nutrients and fats which can cause changes in your stool. I would recommend getting this checked out by your doctor.
Avatar m tn Pancreatitis can be chronic meaning it does not go away or acute meaning it stays for a few days and leaves. You can be chronic and have flares of AP. Chronic patients must take enzymes to help digest their food. They often have oily stools that float. Did they tell you that you have CP? If so you should try to figure out the cause. Some get it from high tryglicerides, cystitc fibrosis, drinking genetics or just idiopathic ( no cause).
543435 tn?1282242679 Has any doctor ever suggested he may have chronic pancreatitis? You can have chronic pancreatitis and have flares of acute pancreatitis. This can be hereditary or from drinking or many other reasons. If you have this disease then you are unable to digest a lot of food. Sticking to a low fat diet and taking specially prescribed enzymes to help digest food seems to help some people with this. Usually a diagnosis is made from an endoscopic ultrasound procedure or from CT scan.
Avatar m tn In cases in which a person is experiencing chronic instead of acute pancreatitis, it is possible for the enzyme levels not to be elevated. Make sure she is evaluated for autoimmune pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed in 2001 with Pancreatitis. Dr. did a couple of scopes (endo & gastro) I was put on 3 different meds. Domparadone, Buscopan, Rapabrazole (excuse the spelling, its very late) Also on a clear liquid diet for 2 months. Lost a lot of weight during this. Thought the problem was fixed. Then one day, BAM its back. Is there a cure, or is this another disease I just am going to have to "live" with? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn m really worried because I did some research and I read the most common causes for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency are cystic fibrosis (which i dont have) and chronic pancreatitis, and, if you have CP that its not curable and there is a severe lower life expectancy associated with it. Is this all true and does it sound as if I have this?
Avatar f tn //pancreasfoundation.org/patient-information/chronic-pancreatitis/ and https://www.health.harvard.edu/a_to_z/chronic-pancreatitis-a-to-z I do not blame you one bit for trying to find other avenues to explore besides chronic pancreatitis. The treatent for that is just managing symptoms. Does your husband journal food intake to get a handle on any triggers to avoid?
1453931 tn?1285185353 Sorry to hear about your pancreatitis. Just a question how did you know you had chronic pancreatitis? I had my GB removed just like you in 2008. I had a bile leak and when they preformed a ERCP I got acute pancreatitis. It is a risk associated with the ERCP. Anyway after my amylase and lipase went down to normal I was checked out of the hospital. However since then I have had horrible nocturnal abdominal pain and it also happens when on an empty stomach longer than 4 hours.
Avatar n tn Can a person develop chronic pancreatitis after having acute pancreatitis that resulted from having an ERCP? I have developed abdominal pain that radiates to my side and back that is relieved when I lean forward and worsens when I lean back. No nausea or vomiting, no fever. Should I follow up with my doctor? I had the acute pancreatitis around 2004. Thanks for your response.
Avatar n tn My question is does this mean I have chronic pancreatitis or can you not tell on a MRCP? Does the duct dilatation set off an inflamation of the liver and pancreas and cause the pancreatitis pain? Also can the duct dilatation heal on its own in time? I have no desire to undergo an ERCP as I've heard such nightmare stories from people who have undergone but yet I'm so tired of not feeling good and having pain and just would like to feel good again. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn To my knowledge there is no gold standard test to diagnose chronic pancreatitis. In fact, diagnosing chronic pancreatitis is challenging because testing may yield normal results, even when the disease is present. So doctors typically rely on a battery of tests to come up with the final result.
Avatar f tn Carries diagnosis of IBS, GERD, Non-Allergic Rhinitis. Has history of pancreatitis. Is on special diet. Bloating unresolved for 6 months. Welcome any ideas. Thank you.
Avatar n tn He may have to be on a prescription or bland diet for the rest of his life. Diabetes should only be an issue if he develops chronic pancreatitis for a very long time. Eventually enough islet cells are damaged that insulin can no longer be produced. I doubt that has happened yet with such a fast recovery, and it may never happen. My aunt had a mini schnauzer who lived over 18 years, and most of those years included chronic pancreatitis with a few acute attacks requiring hospitalization.
Avatar n tn I am looking for a dog food for our rat terrier who has issues with chronic pancreatitis, high cholesterol and trig. We presently have her on Hill's W/D but would like a maintenance low fat food.
1264088 tn?1279480822 Hi I know that this discussion occurred a long time ago, but it had alot of similarities to my condition, so wanted to post and see what has happened with the people that posted on here. I am a 46 yr old female, nonsmoker, non drinker that was in great health before I had gyne surgery 3 yrs ago that resulted in periotinitis, sepsis and drug resistent C difficile. I have had chronic upper, right side, back and flank pain for 3 years.
