Avatar n tn I have a 5 yr old kindergartener. She is bright, intelligent, and for the most part well behaved at home. The problem is at school she throws tanrums and goes berserk. She didn't do it in preschool nor does she do it at home. The teacher telling her to do something she doesn't want to to a child cuting in front of her in line will set her off.
Avatar n tn My 6 years old is very quiet at school. He is good in studies, very chatty at home and in family/friends gathering, but won't talk at school. Even when he knows the answer, he won't raise his hand. Won't even ask to go for Toilet. If asked, he just says that he is shy. Please advise. thanks.
Avatar n tn And any time a parent gets a call from school about behavioral issues, I think it is a great idea to begin observing the child at school as Sandman says!

Avatar n tn s head and got in trouble. But I question the safety of the school having allowed the children to be unaccompanied in the bathroom. Boys will be boys and together may play in the bathroom if they are not being supervised by an adult. What is your professional thought?

Avatar f tn She has lot friends back home and is the most popular one. She enjoys dancing, singing, pretend play, but at school she does not seem to be participating quite well. She gets pretty uncomfortable around new people, new settings and refuses to greet anyone when asked to. Is this normal? She clings to me at parties. I am planning to visit her teacher to know whether she is completely mute at school or only shy. Please help me. I am really confused. Tks. namaste.
Avatar n tn t stressing about getting in trouble at home as well as at school. (Which is totally unheard of to me, not punishing your child at home for misbehaving at school), but since he does seem to be anxious, I said I would give this a try. She also said that many of the problems are with one particular child, so I asked her to give the parents my number so we could get together outside of school and help the two boys learn appropriate ways to get along. She also said she thinks he will outgrow this.
Avatar n tn My son was bitten today by another child at preschool. Both boys are 5 1/2, The other child has hit my son and other kids in the past and the teachers have told us he has behavior problems. Today's incident involved this child biting my son through his pants and underpants hard enough to leave welts and teeth marks on his penis and scrotum. I will take my son to our pediatrician in the morning.
Avatar m tn We are having problems with my 5 1/2 year old at school. Academically he is keeping up with all the other children and is very bright but socially he appears to be having problems. Every week we are getting reports that he has hit another child. He has got a very short fuse and if he doesn't agree with something then he loses his temper very quickly. We are told by his teachers that he often refuses to do his work.
Avatar n tn I have a 5 yr old boy who is a perfect angel at home. But as soon as he is at school, he is the holy terror. He laughs at the teacher when she corrects him, has been suspended twice, and is extremely bright. His most recent incident was leaving before care with another kid, whom he gets in trouble with quite often, and hiding in the bathroom. They had to put the school on lock down until they found the boys. And then when the Principal scolded him for it, he laughed at her.
Avatar f tn Doggie is always safe, I'm not sure about the jumping jack though.
Avatar n tn My son is 2.5 years old. he started montessori school four month ago. Today at teacher-parent conference I was told to find a different school for him( got kicked out). I was in shock because teachers never told me he had any problems. Only once,in a first two weeks, i was given a notice that he misbehaved in school, so i assumed he got better. My son is a very hyper active child, he has a sharp mind, but only does what he wants to do , and not what you ask him to do.
Avatar n tn I have an eight year old son, Trace, he is currently on ADHD and Anti-Depressant meds (Vyvanse& Lexapro). My problem and concern is this, he has an anger management problem. It is a constant problem at home and at school. I have concerns for his safety and other children's safety. He sees a psychologist and a therapist on a regular basis however; we still have not come to a workable solution.
Avatar m tn Sometimes a coffee stirrer can be given to a child to chew on instead of fingers or they make things that you can get at any occupational therapy web site. Also a hand fidget can be helpful. You don't need an IEP for these things------ our school has them available. So I'm not sure what they are wanting to evaluate your child for but you can certainly ask many more questions. All is pretty vague at this point.
Avatar n tn My 9 year old daughter is having problems in school with focusing and concentrating on school work. She works very slowly and does not get finished with her work. She does not have any behavior problems and cares about her grades. She is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to neat work. She will erase often if it does not look right. She also gets embarrassed easily and will have a melt down at home (and sometimes in class).
Avatar f tn My 8 year old son was diagnosed with ADD over a year ago, and prescribed Concerta. His mother and I are divorced. I learned that she is giving him Melatonin at night to 'help him sleep'. This was not prescribed by the pediatrician; it is over-the-counter. I do not give him any sleep aids when he is with me. He has no sleep issues in my home. He falls asleep within 15 minutes of being put to bed.
Avatar f tn If he is finding the new school environment difficult to cope with the school needs to look at it to make sure it is low arousal. He might benefit from a booket with a picture of each classroom and the teacher/teaching assistants in that class. He may need alot of extra input from the Speech Therapist to help him learn the names of his teacher and some of the pupils. He may need alot of extra support during playtimes and dinnertimes.
Avatar n tn Also I heard a good idea about giving your child a token for every good (or improved) day she has at school and if she has a bad (or not improving) day at school she gets a token or even all of them away. Then at the end of the week she can buy something with her tokens. How do you talk to her about the behavior. Have you told her about the consequence if she doesn't improve? Maybe a little scare tactic that she will not be able to go to that school anymore if she doesn't behave better?
Avatar f tn My mom had my dad on child support it definitely came in handy for school trips and things I wanted when my mom had to pay the bills .... Its always a plus my father was barely around I would definitely say go for the child support you won't regret it ...

1006035 tn?1485575897 My daughter has verbal apraxia has been attending school full time. Children with apraxia often throw temper tantrums when they feel frustrated, anxious and afraid. It's hard know what you want to say and not being able to say it. I've been told that she's been throwing fits at school. They aren't sure what is causing them. She's been throwing things and just been generally upset. Apparently teachers and parents have gone to the school board to complain and express concerns.
Avatar n tn What you have described is not an uncommon behaviour for children suffering from very severe anxiety (OCD is one of the anxiety disorders). I am wondering if your child is also selectively mute while at school - or at least part of the time. Some of our children become so "frozen in fear" that they are physically unable to speak (it's as if their vocal chords tighten too much) and so, only sounds (not words) are able to be uttered.
1747881 tn?1546175878 Niwot High School in Boulder County, Colo. is closed Friday as authorities investigate a threat to blow up the school and a 30-name "hit list." A threat that the school would "blow on the 11th" was found scrawled on a bathroom Monday and made public Tuesday. Officials decided to close the school when the threat escalated upon Thursday's discovery of the threatening hit list filled with students' names, The Longmont Times-Call reports.
Avatar f tn Uhhhh no. It is absolutely not worth the safety of your child! Or yourself!
480448 tn?1426948538 I've posted a photo of the letter we received from the district outlining the changes to be put in place following the Sandy Hook tragedy. I apologize if it's hard to read, plus I edited out names for privacy purposes. I am actually shocked the district was so quick to implement these changes, and I'm pleased. I don't think the gun debate should have anything to do with what each school district decides to implement for their children's safety.
