Chest tightness meaning

Common Questions and Answers about Chest tightness meaning

Avatar f tn however, in the past week, i have noticed a new sensation of tightening/constricting of my upper chest / trachea. I dont know if this is possible, but it doesnt feel like the same sensation i get from wheezing, however it is difficult to move air and has resulted in a dry annoying cough. There is also the constant sensation of having a tickle in the back of my throat. This also hasn't been resolved with the use of albuerol, which also leads me to believe that it is not my asthma acting up.
Avatar n tn I also have tightness in the chest. I also get a flutter ffeeling in my heart when the tightness gets bad..had all heart test done on several occasions and all hearts tests were normal. I get shortness of breadth's like that same comment about breathing through a straw with a hole..! I have had thryoid level checked and that was normal. Chest xrays were normal..not sure what they look for when they read chest xrays.
Avatar m tn About 5 days ago I woke up extremley short of breath, every breath was difficult and felt as if I could not get any oxygen. Chest tightness came along with this, and would be worse with deep breaths (if I could even get one). I went to the ER had a chest xray (negative), blood work (negative), EKG (negative) and blood pressure was 123/85 100% oxygen saturation. So after about 3 days the breathing gets slightly better on its own.
Avatar m tn Hi, use to get a bit of pain in the middle of chest a few years ago, nothing really to worry about as far as I was concerned, just now and again i use to feel a little bit of feel there. One day I stretched my chest (like the starting position to do a chest fly) and I heard it "crack" meaning the bone went back into position. Try it, stretching your body with carrying in your back backwards and opening your chest should put back whatever bone is out of place in the upper region.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the replies, it helps to hear some outside opinions regardless. The dull pain was there when it was first happening - sorry if I was a little vague. Yeah, Bromley, you're probably right - I'll probably be looking into finding a doctor that might know what they're talking about in the near future. I have a family history of irregular heartbeats (my dad has been dealing with an atrial fibrulation for years).
Avatar f tn * The stomach or other organs in the belly (abdomen), for example, can cause chest pain. Worried? I would be. Chest pain? Meaning what? What kind of pain? Pain in the chest has many many causes. Some serious some not. Treatment or not I would want to know what is going on as any pain in the chest is not good. Pain usually means "hello! Something is wrong!" If my son had chest pain I would take him to see a doctor ASAP.
Avatar n tn It seems to be made worse from stress and sleepless nights do not help. I get a tightness across the chest and feel restricted, which is only alleviated by the cracking of the sternum. I worry that this cracking will cause issues long term, like Arthritis, etc. However, sometimes there is no option as the amount of times that this occurs is increasing and the cracking (and sometimes popping) can happen from just sitting up, turning or running up the stairs.
Avatar n tn Blood volume levels were fine - no sign of narrowing of arteries but I did experience problems on the treadmill - fatigue (expected) tightness in chest, chest discomfort, discomfort between shoulderblades. All of these were about 6 on a scale of 1-10. BP afterwards was 170/90 then 164/97 then went to 135/88. I felt these symptoms for about 15 minutes after the test ended.
Avatar n tn It is sometimes accompanied by a fair amount of sweating. After a big one or several, the feeling of tightness can linger for several hours at a lower level. Doesn't happen during the day, and exercise both aerobic and anaerobic is no problem, even helps with residual tightness. The PVC's are annoying, but this is a little scary. Any idea what this can be? Thanks very much for your advice.
Avatar f tn infact i just got out of the hospital yesterday after a whole bunch of tests and was told that it was not my heart, so i came home from the hospital after being there for two days and i still have the same feeling in my chest - the feeling comes and goes....i get a tightness in the middle of my chest and cant breathe and also at times i get pain in my neck going up to my jaw and left arm, as i am typing this i just got a dropping feeling in my chest which is so scary.
Avatar n tn After having my 2nd child, 4 years ago, I started keeping track of heart papitations/chest pain that I was having. It seemed to be 1-2 weeks before I started my period. I had an ultrasound/stress test 2 years ago and everything came out fine. However, I am still having these chest pains and sometimes shortness of breath (especially when I workout). I am not one to go to the doctor often, so I am hoping this is nothing serious.
Avatar n tn For a few years now, I've been getting a red blotchy chest/neck rash in circumstances where I - am drinking alcohol, anxious, nervous, excited, upset - really feeling just about any emotion. It's gotten to the point where I do not expose my chest/neck ever - and cover up whenever I can. I had read once that taking Niacinimide could help - and I've been taking about 1000mg of it for a few months, but am not seeing much improvement.
Avatar n tn I have tried osteopathy, and although they recognise a significant tightness in her chest they are unable to relieve the pain. Her chest x-ray and ultrasound are clear. I am now awaiting blood test results that may or may not point to a virus of some kind. The general consensus is that it is Costochondritis (inflammation of the cartilage around ribs & breastbone).
Avatar f tn There is no specific pattern for the flow of events that come with heart related issues...meaning that first you would get chest pain , next you would get short of your arm would comes as it wants. Anxiety is the worse Genie in not knowing what the heck is going on but the huge indicator for male and female alike is the chest pressure and issues w. shortness of breath foremost.
Avatar n tn The burning/gnawing feels like someone has taken their fingernails and scraped all over inside of my chest. It also feels like a tightness in my chest. Sometimes the symptoms can be worse when I breathe deeply. I also have strange looking stools. Sorry to be gross . . . but they are loose looking (which isn't abnormal for me because I have "IBS"), but they have a weird copper/orange color to them. I emphasize that the symptoms are worse after I eat.
Avatar n tn He prescribed me some Beta Blockers, Propranolol 40 mg tablets, have only been taking these for 2 days so am unsure if they are going to work!! Often wake up in the middle of the night feeling tightness across the chest and sometimes I feel like I have an armband around the biceps of both arms, like I said very frightening.
Avatar n tn Sorry for the late reply. I'm 47, mother of 2. A Fib is short for "Atrial Fibrillation". I attend Tai Chi class as well. Only once a week for 1.5 hrs. Heart goes mad during this 1.5 hrs everytime. I attend TCM (Tradition Chinese Medicine) clinic so I'm on herb pill as well. I told them the western medicine took me to the railway line and operate the train. It hurts my tummy. I refused to take any of them.
1554262 tn?1374243601 I've had this symptom (tightness in the chest that radiates outward, tightness in the jaw that radiates downward along throat and then chest) for a few years now. When it first happened, I went to see a cardio and had a workup that included ekg, stress test, blood works. Everything was normal. Im 48W. The attacks don't happen often. Only a few times a year. But it is scary. And the instant I drink water (room temp or cold) it goes away immediately. I have chucked it to dehydration.
213398 tn?1202674074 I was on vacation and was lagging along. I was getting chest pain, and a tightness in my chest. My lungs hurt from trouble breathing. My mom called the ambulance and I was rushed in to the nearest hospital. My anuerysm was ready to rupture! They referred me to see my cardiologist immediately. The next day I called my cardiologist and scheduled an appointment that was a couple days later. I called my best friend who is an RN and knows alot about the cardiology field.
Avatar f tn Trumping all of these symptoms, I have had a tightness in my lower left part of my heart. A few weeks ago I would have described it as if the heart had no room to give - - it was pulled to the max and couldn't relax. I was scared but I did not do anything but try and change my diet. I regularly frequent fast food joints (Del Taco) more than 10 times per week. I am in my 20's. There is no heart disease in my family (that I'm aware of).
Avatar n tn For the past four years, I've experienced a strange rubbing sound/sensation in my lower throat/upper chest area. It occurs only whenever I twist my torso from side to side, such as when exercising, or quickly turning to the side via pivoting at the waist. It feels & sounds like something is causing friction. I cannot pinpoint where it is coming from, but it seems to be my lower throat/upper chest, somewhere around collarbone level. It seems to be located within the windpipe or esophagus.
Avatar n tn after by-pass operation I had tightness and pain on my left side.when I walk fast my left side is tightening then I can't move or lift my arm. At worst my sternum feels like it will snap or break. Also when I lie down flat I have a hard time breathing.I have to lie on my left or right side to be able to take deep breath. When I take deep breath it is painfull in my chest and I also start coughing,it feels like I am being choked(meaning,a thumb being pressed on my throat).
Avatar m tn Hi, i was wondering if trapped gas can cause chest soreness, chest tightness, shortness of breath, stabbing pain which is severe enough to think you are having a serious heart problem. and if the answer is yes, how does one go about solving this trapped gas problem? Thanks.
Avatar m tn I am almost 3 weeks out from my Bilateral DIEP, and was wondering what is normal for the chest/flap area, meaning, how much discomfort and tightness outside the flaps is reasonable. I have tightness/hardness above the flaps, toward the center of the chest up approx. 2 to 3 inches, going out from the center, but the flaps themselves look and fell fine-where the elliptic scars are.. What kind of symptoms, about three weeks out, do others have around the flap areas.
Avatar n tn Every doctor we went to would just rule out stress / anxiety and send us home. My husband was never the same ever since. He has this throbbing chest tightness, shortness of breath, and a discomforting churning growling stabbing (you name it) under his left rib cage traveling to the back upper shoulder blade area. It feels like cold airy acidy gas. He was never able to take a full deep breath eversinced. Every time it seems like air is leeking somewhere else.
Avatar f tn I try to lay in bed for a half an hour or so, to calm down my heart. But the chest tightness or feeling like I am holding my breath sometimes lasts for hours. I also wake up very exhausted and lightheaded. I went to my dr about this about 6 months when this was happening about once a week, she ordered stress echo and chest xray and everything came out fine. But now this is EVERYDAY, should I go back and ask for more tests?
Avatar n tn (cud of bin brought on by nurse ringing her telling her this over phone and tell her if she gets sob phone the ambo, not da way you shud tell a single older person i would have thort. she hasn't had it since, a bit of tightness of the chest problem is they did ct and now she knobly on so small that they cant do by, on her and doc doesnt no if they r both related or 2 dif things.
Avatar f tn The Dr said to watch my blood pressure and cholesterol which are fine right now. To come for another visit next year. I keep having a tightness in my chest. (Dr knows this) I also have a hard time sleeping at night. I get tired and need to take breaks throughout my day. I exercise, drink water, I do not smoke, I am not overweight, have maybe 2 alcoholic drinks a more than that. With the leaking valves, is it normal to have the tightness and trouble sleeping?
Avatar n tn I have developed chronic SOB over the past 6 months. This is associated with chest pain/tightness, air hunger and heart rate inappropriately fast with any activity (e.g. HR 120 after climb one filight of stairs. My symptoms are better with inhalers (beta-agonists I was told) and QVAR (inhaled steroid). My pulmonary function studies showed normal diffusion capacity (DLCO) and 10-15% (mild) obstructive numbers or so that improved with albuterol.
