Common Questions and Answers about Chest pain under sternum

chest

Avatar m tn When ever I hold my breath and let all the wind out of my lungs and squeeze my chest it will give me pain on and around my sternum. If I turn my head sharply I will feel pain on the right side. But what hurts me the most is when I push down on my sternum or pull an object into my sternum. Nothing shows up in xrays and the doctors just keep sending me away without telling me anything. Does anyone know what this could be? It also does hurt in my back on the right side when everything hurts.
Avatar f tn ve had 3 attacks of chest pain ,it starts under my right ribs and spreads to my sternum up into my throat ,my jaw and teeth and through to my back from the sternum and spreads under my ribs in my back .
1733249 tn?1310306565 I have pain in my center chest. The sternum is painful (mostly all the time)and hurts to push on it. I also have slight stomach and under ribs pain. LOTS of belching and a bloated feeling. Went to ED and they did blood work, ekg, etc. I am under lot of stress at the moment. This seems to me to be a stomach and or esophogus issue. I have been taking prevacid for years and never had this problem before. Last night I took a vicodin and it felt much better.
Avatar m tn Wow, you sound like me. Pain in my center chest (sternum). Slight pain under ribs. Belching. Also I have bloated feeling. Went to ED and mentioned "chest pain". Wow that was a mistake, But, they did check everything having to do with the heart and all came back normal. Do you have any more info on your problem?
Avatar n tn Due to a small pulmonary embolism that occurred after the birth of my son 8 years ago the sudden onset chest pain was always checked first for a recurrence of that, but genetic testing showed no clotting factors and every sequential trip to the ER showed no blood clot.
Avatar f tn I am 57 and have been experiencing pain like a tight band just under my sternum Some times it goes in to my chest and I feel as if it might be my heart as It is often accompanied by a feeling of dread and a kind of stomach lurching feeling. It seems worse in the morning when it appears to affect my breathing. It just will not go away. My bowels are affected too and I don't know where to turn. I take omeprezole once a day which tends to make me dizzy.
Avatar n tn I'm a 29 year old male, I've been suffering from pain in my sternum for about 7 years now. It's almost crippling at times and I've been to dozens of doctors and specialists about it. The day it first started, I was diagnosed with costochondritis and sent home with a bottle of advil.
Avatar f tn After I have been sleeping for the night and I wake up, I have chest pain in my sternum area. It hurts when I move my arms to stretch my chest. It hurts when I breath deep breaths. This happens every morning when I wake up. Should I be worried? Is this common? Any possible explanations?
Avatar m tn Hello. I have now gone on a couple of months of pain under my sternum. It started when I lifted something heavy and my back was hurt badly. after a couple of weeks, my stomach feels like it's always empty. it is weird. it also feels like it's full. it's hard to explain. when I push in under my sternum, I get a sharp pain, but when I don't, my stomach does not hurt, it just feels weird. I'm not even sure if its my stomach.
Avatar f tn I have had this sharp pain right in the middle of my sternum since yesterday. Does anyone think this is cardiac? I am 27/f non smoker. Pulse feels like normal rhythm... what could this be?
Avatar n tn ve had bronchitis twice, which caused pain under the sternum, and the treatment for that was antibiotics. But in the absence of respiratory symptoms, it's probably not bronchitis. If this is an ongoing problem, you need to talk to your doctor about it. Over the counter anti-inflammatories, like ibuprofen, might help a bit.
Avatar n tn Two months ago I began to have some chest pain and chest spasms that radiated to my back. Also it seems to be tender at my sternum. The pain became more frequent and much more intense so I went to the Doctor.
Avatar m tn Im 16 years old. I've been having bad chest pains, mostly on my sternum. They've been happening randomly for about 8 months. They usually only last for 3 hours but lately they have been getting worse and lasting almost all day. My throat has been tensing up when they happen. What can i do to make them stop?
Avatar f tn The spots that are affected are directly underneath my sternum in the center of the chest. To the left of my sternum and below my left breast towards the bottom of the ribs. I have gotten a bunch of cardiac tests including an echocardiogram, stress test, EKG, blood test, MRI and cat scan. All came back good. This has been going on for three months now and seems to be getting worse. The only medication I take is 30mg of oxycodone for a herniated disk.
Avatar m tn It is a real pain to deal with whatever it may be..the pain can shoot anywhere from the left side od the breast near the sternum to almost under my armpit. Thanks for the input it's appreciated!
Avatar n tn Im 26 and started having chest pain in my sternum area i thought i was having a heart attack but a few days later now im coughing and trying to clear my throught kinda feels like im getting a cold.
Avatar m tn PULLED my sternum badly. Since then my sternum has collapsed inward about 1 inch. I have chest pain or what I call sternum pain all the time. It can and has caused the same symptoms of a heart attack; severe pain, feels like a weight is on my chest, someone is choking me from the inside, short of breath. All tests; x-ray, ct scan, mri, etc., have came back "normal". I have a bone scan scheduled tomorrow. I NEED HELP!
Avatar f tn Hi so 6 months ago i have chronic pain under sternum like a thumping pain right under the bone there, i couldnt hardly do anything, i couldnt move as it got worse, i couldnt bend or reach or even going over a speed hump caused a jabbing (i can no longer wear a bra). I then started getting a pressure under right rib too like a swelling to me but no one else could really feel it.
Avatar m tn Ok first off I want to thank everyone for reading, I'm going to try and make this as short and detailed as possible. About 3 months ago I was doing a workout (where you hit a tractor tire with a sledge hammer) I didn't warm up before doing so and I did something to my chest.
Avatar m tn ve been having bad chest pains, mostly around my sternum. I randomly will get them about once a week and they would only last about 4 hours. Now they have been lasting 8 or so hours and been happening more offen. It feels like I have someone crushing my sturnum. Besides that it gets very hard to breathe through my mouth when it happens. People have said its cause of junk food but I dont drink pop or eat tons of junk food or fast food. What should i do?
Avatar m tn I also get left arm pain but not when i am having the chest pains(usually about 2 to 5 minutes after). I have had 2 stress echo's, a Cardiac CT, and numerous ekg's. All were excellent(except for the PAC's). Coronary arteries were in pristine condition. No pain upon exertion. Always at rest. Only twice while at sleep(unless i am sleeping thru pain, which is unlikely as i am a light sleeper). I can not reproduce the pain by twisting, turning, contorting, lifting.
1009011 tn?1250693339 However I started getting this severe pain in my chest ( right side under my breast) about 5 days ago. I thought maybe that I pulled a muscle or something and that the pain would go away, but its not going away and my breathing seems to be more difficult and shorter. I cant lay on my right side at night as it shoots a sharp pain throughout my body. I just want to know what is going on. I was hoping someone could give me some advice or something and save me an expensive trip to the doctors!
4384923 tn?1353791323 My doctor suggested going back to the surgeon which I will due if it gets any worse. It certainly is in a strange spot just under the sternum.
1071741 tn?1308050700 m wondering why you would have to have some of the tests you have had done (like a colonoscopy) if the pain is in your chest/sternum area. The sternum is surrounded by cartilage and ligaments and tendons...none of those show up very well on any kind of test. I would think you need to see a muscle doctor, a physical therapist or chiropractor, massage therapist...some one who deals with the muscles and bones of your body. Also, sacro-cranial massage can be helpful...
Avatar f tn m going through, and went through last night...right down to the old xanax. I had the same pain right at the bottom of my sternum, and also some pain just to the left of that area. Does thinking about the pain make it worse with time? Mine did, and I did the exact same thing you did...it eventually went away because the xanax knocked me out. (best sleep aid in the world I think) If you have gastritis like I do...
