The classic quality is squeezing sensation as if an “elephant is on the chest”. The pain also classically radiates to the left side. You should have your cardiac enzymes cycled (i.e., taken every 6-8 hours x 3) and also have an EKG and chest xray. I also suffered with the strange feeling of skipped heart beats and also pain on the left side of my heart as well as pain in the right and middle of my chest. My pain has been dull, achy, stabbing, piercing, tight, pressure like, and sore. I would check my pulse on my neck and I could feel the pulse very hard. What really scared me was the fact that my left arm and leg were constantly "tingly" and numb. So right away I thought it was the heart.
Pain can occur in that area from a whole host of sources....like mammo said, it could be GI in nature, could be anxiety/stress....it could be related to something respiratory (for example, what you describe is a very common symptom of an upper resp infection, bronchitis). You've had a thorough cardiac work-up, so you can relax in that respect.
My suggestion to you would be...if it continues, certainly make an appt with your doc to rule out any other possible physical cause...
I'm a 23 yr old male, 6ft and weight 205lbs. I have been experiencing this left side chest pain for over 2 years now. The past year and a half, I have been in the charity system and had multiple test including, echo's, blood work, stress test, holter monitors, ekgs. I recently just got insurance and got established with a family Doc, been seeing hime about 3 months. I've had an ekg, holter monitor, and blood work done through him.
Im a 24 yr old male, 205lbs, 6ft, cholesterol 245. I'm a very inactive person for about 4 years now, and I noticed that I can minor activities and be winded and have a fast heart rate that I can feel without putting my hand on my chest, and I also can feel it in my throat and everywhere else where you can feel your pulse. Just by walking up a flight of stairs I get super winded. I've been having recurrent localized left side chest pain for about 2 yrs now.
t find anything on the priliminary check up. now I have some pain still exist under the left side of the left chest and take some oinment. what precautions & treatment I have to follow. please help me.
Note: pain on sneezing, geting up from the bed without help, little pain when lifting the left hand.
It is more under the nipple to left side of my chest and left arm sometimes. I also get pain in my back sort of between shoulder blades when it is really bad. I have had ekg, reads normal ,BP 123/87 no shortness of breath. My cholesterol levels, bad cholesterol was below slightly do not remember exact number. Good cholesterol was slightly higher than normal but was told that helps to fight coronery disease.I do not have insurance and both my wife and I recently lost our jobs.
The left side of your heart is also the right side of your left lung, which is susceptible to stabs of pain. The heart itself doesn't have any pain sensors so heart pain is felt in the surrounding areas, usually as an ache or pressure instead of stab sensation.
But that doesn't mean you can ignore it, because for every rule there is an exception and you don't want a heart problem to catch you by surprise.

After I left about an hour and half later I started experiencing the same symptoms I have been for awhile now, the localized left side chest pain, in the area right over where my heart is located, and the pain extends down into my left arm and lasts about an hour or so. I have been experiencing very mild pain (more like an ache) in the left side of my chest. Now i dont know if this has to do with my heart or something else. This pain is very very mild but definetly noticable. It happens throughout the day and it comes and goes. It also happens when i am laying down at night sometimes. This has been going on now for about 2 months. I do notice that it gets worse if i drink over 6 beers a night. The next day the pain will be much more noticable and prevalent.
this just started about a month ago but i am a 17 year old in training with the USMC and all of the sudden i started to get very bad chest pains on the left side of my chest when ever i do physical activities. I have gone to a cardiologist and ran tests they all came back fine but my symptoms react to the use of Nitro pills. he says it is most likly angina but they have no idea what is causing this.
okay hers the question over the last couple of months once in a while I get a sharp pain under my left chest muscle almost on my side, it only last a second or 2. usually I am siting down. It hasnt happen while I have been active. there are no other symptoms . I take my bp right after it happens and its is122/ 82 paulse 83, my doctor says it a typical chest pain and not to worry . well I am worried what do you think.
