2038871 tn?1329798210 So the only complaint I have is chest congestion and coughing up yellow stuff since before surgery they have found no infection so will find out more tomorrow. Im having to use my enhaler more then 4 times a day to breathe. Of course I need to stop smoking and it has really curtailed me from doing so because I do like breathing. Will ask for patches tomorrow. Anesthieologist was great about asking about my liver and made adjustments accordingly. I know part of it is due to being put under.
Avatar n tn I have had severe chest congestion, a sharp pain deep in the center of my chest, it causes shallow breathing because it hurts to breath in and causes a severe cough attack. This has returned 3 times now in the past three months. The first time I came down with this, I went to my primary care dr.
490443 tn?1236648256 I was sick when I had my surgery. I had had a very sore throat and fever for 2 days. I asked my surgeon who told me the surgery would only be postponed if I had a fever or if I had chest congestion. Luckily, the day of the surgery, I didn't have a fever that morning (my fevers tend to be low in the morning and get higher in the afternoon), though I was still sick. I didn't have chest congestion either, so it was a go.
Avatar n tn prior to surgery. If so, it was unrelated to the surgery and might have been a reason to postpone the surgery. If I am mistaken and you actually developed the cough post operatively, on the very day of surgery, then there could be a relationship, not with the thyroid removal, but related to the anesthesia, presumably with intubation. And it could bear a relationship to your underlying asthma, in this case aggravated either by the viral infection or by the intubation. But that is all past.
170935 tn?1225371076 On and off through out the years when I get any type of chest congestion (once or twice a year) It usually happens just before I start feeling sick/congested and also again after I'm in the healing process of it; for instance, a week or two after the symptoms of the congestion seems to be gone. What you are going through sounds very similar to what I've gone through.
Avatar f tn My question is the the last 3 months as I am laying down for a while I get a gurggle feeling in my chest and it almost feels like congestion so I make a cough to see if that would help and I have no congestion at all and the cough doesnt help. When I stand for a minute is when it will go away. Can you please tell me what this means or if I should go get a 2nd opinion??? Heart related issues runs on my mother side of the family and just about everyone has an issue.
Avatar f tn What it feels like is the chronic post nasal drip I have has caused congestion in my upper chest. However, the weird part is, I really have no cough, and the occasional cough has never brought anything up. In the past, if my chest begins to feel this way, it is followed by the painful cough and coughing stuff up. I would not call what I have sometimes as pain, it feels more like irritation. When I am active, as well as when I drink a lot of water, it seems to be much better.
Avatar n tn For about a year now I have had a cough and chest congestion, my doctor has switched my asthma medications several times thinking that might be the reason for my cough and congestion, she's tried many different types of allery medications, I have been to the pulmonologist, had a chest x-ray and nothing was found, but the cough and congestion I still have.
Avatar f tn I have severe chest congestion. This has been going on for about 3 months. It's strange because I will have constant congestion and cough one day and the next day I will be almost clear. I know that if I have congestion one day the next day I will not. I plan my days accordingly. My dr. has put me on antiboitics and presidone twice in the last 3 months, I've had a chest x-ray last week, shows nothing. I have had allergies all my life.
Avatar f tn I woke up 2days ago with chest congestion and a stuffy nose. I am having a laparoscopy on the 9th. Do i have to call the doctor and tell him? Will they reschedule my surgery?
Avatar f tn Benadryl is supposed to be safe in pregnancy. There is also a saline rinse with No medication in it that helps. Sinus congestion is a side effect of pregnancy (from pregnancy hormones) I would check with your doctor first.
Avatar m tn I just moved to Denver from Chicago. Right before we left, I could tell I had a sinus infection, as I have a long history of sinus issues. I also have stomach issues, history of a couple ulcers. A couple of ENT's have told me I have obvious signs of GERD, though I don't often have indigestion, sometimes I can taste acid in the morning. Anyway, I saw a doc when I arrived in Denver and she gave me Biaxin for the sinus infection. Only it doesn't seem to have cleared up.
Avatar f tn I am a 66 year old female. I smoke a few cigarettes a day. I have had this for about 5 weeks now. It started with sneezing and runny nose (along with sinus congestion that is almost always present even before this episode). The sneezing and runny nose are gone. I am so stuffed up that I cannot get much air through either nostril. This is an ongoing problem that was present when this began.
Avatar f tn What type of surgery are you having? There is a great thread on here, "top 10 things I have learned from laparoscopic cyst/ovary removal". It's very informative and light hearted enough to maybe assuage your fears. What aspects of the surgery are worrying you? Have you had any surgical procedures before? Many of us on here have had surgery recently, so if you let us know your specific concerns I'm sure someone will be able to help.
Avatar f tn I continue to experience chest congestion. Why do I still have chest congestion after 3 years?
Avatar f tn It is useful for treating respiratory problems including chest congestion, bronchitis, bronchial cough and sinusitis, as well as sore throat and laryngitis. Likewise, eucalyptus is a natural antibacterial agent. A small handful of whole leaves or a small amount of the essential oils in boiling water is effective for twice-daily steam inhalations. You can apply rubs as needed to the chest and throat or - cautiously - around nostrils to ease congestion.

Three weeks later and I still have this night wheezing and sensation in the lower lungs which is loud enough to wake me... and my husband. Avatar f tn I been having coughing, chest congestion, nasal congestion and coughing up nasty stuff (mucus) ewww. What can I take or what can I do to fight this bug? Because I feel hopeless.
Avatar n tn The first thing I noticed was how sore my throat was and that I had TERRIBLE chest congestion. I kept trying to cough something up. I feel to sleep off and on and they took me back to my room. Dh was standing in the hallway as I went down to my room. He asked if they told me anything about the surgery and I told him no. Then he said what I wanted to hear............."Honey, he said it was not cancer!". Oh my was I relieved!
Avatar n tn Maybe I got mild fever for few hours and end up with coughing and chest congestion. Does it sound like ARS?? Should I be worried?
Avatar f tn Im 8wks 5dys and the last two days I've had terrible nasal congestion it's so irritating idk what to do. Is there anything I can take or will breath right strips be ok to use?
Avatar n tn t anything painful, just uncomfortable, and I assumed that I was developing some congestion due to a cold. 2 weeks later, I still have the pressure in my chest, but I never developed a cough or fever or anything else that I would associate with a common sickness. It seems to get worse when I do have to walk up stairs or exert myself, but it never goes away even when I have been resting for several hours. This morning I was almost late to a class so I was out of breath when I got there.
Avatar m tn For a cough, try something like guaifenesin, like Robitussin Severe Congestion Liquagels or Mucinex. Avoid dextramethorphan, like Robitussin DM. It is okay to treat the symptoms of your cough, but if you are getting symptoms that point toward bacterial infection requiring antibiotics, make sure you see your doctor. Examples of symptoms to watch for are fever, coughing up colored phlegm, pain in your chest when you cough, shortness of breath, or any symptoms lasting more than 10 days or so.
Avatar n tn I have had nasal congestion for the past 6 months, usually I can breathe out of one nostril at a time and it switches throughout the day. After dealing with it for a few weeks I was seen by my primary care physician and they said it was a sinus infection. I was given antibiotics and a nasal spray. I took those but continued to be congested (by the way whichever nostril is clogged up I would get a constant clear drainage) and started to develop a dry cough from time to time and wheezing.
