Chest cold upper respiratory infection

Common Questions and Answers about Chest cold upper respiratory infection

chest

Avatar f tn A humidifier will help you breathe and sleep better, and cough drops and chloroseptic spray for your throat are just fine. I did have a pretty serious upper respiratory infection in the first trimester, and my OB said regular mucinex is okay.
Avatar m tn If your mucus is discoloured like dark yellow to dark green and you get it by coughing then you have a bad infection in your chest. The pain is probably due to the coughing and the irritation of the infection and inflammation. If the mucus feels like its coming from the base of your chest then it suggests that the infection is quiet low down your respiratory tract.
Avatar n tn Infections usually start out as upper respiratory infections, such as from a cold and then travel down into your lungs (lower respiratory infection). Other times it's from getting the flu and a secondary infection sets in, such as pneumonia or acute bronchitis. Other times you could get acute bronchitis from being exposed to a lot of irritants in the air (such as wood dust, heavy pollution etc).
1901977 tn?1333991726 Been feeling like something was coming on for days now, but woke up early this morning with a definitely upper respiratory infection-type thing, including a deep chest cough and a lot of congestion in my chest. I just started my 12th week so I'm not comfortable taking antibiotics or most of the normal over-the-counter meds I use to treat these normally. Any magic solutions from those of you who have been through this before?
Avatar f tn sulayne my guess is that you should maybe go to the doctor, you may have developed the cold but if nothing is working for you then maybe you have developed an upper respiratory or lower respiratory infection. if it is just a cough alone then i strongly suggest you go to the doctors.have you got any other symptoms that point to just a cold such as: runny nose watery eyes?
Avatar m tn ve coughed up with colds was originally from the nose and had drained down into my throat and larynx area and this was why it seemed worse in the morning. After the upper respiratory part of my November illness subsided, I had an extended period where I felt mucus in my throat and often had to clear it or cough it out. That illness did completely resolve. I am still in the middle of the current cold. I've not had any fever or fatigue with either illness.
1100598 tn?1413127426 I have asthma. In October, I developed an upper respiratory infection that caused swollen lymph nodes in my neck and an ear infection/sore throat, and later on a cough. The cough has hung on since then. I have had two chest x-rays, which have come back negative. My doctor put me on a course of prednisone, which did nothing. The cough brings up a foaming white phlegm, and sometimes causes heart palpitations.
Avatar n tn why is my upper back hurting so much with this cold ?
2041076 tn?1329881359 I am uncertain about what this statement means but assume the symptoms to be those of a cold or another type of upper respiratory infection. Such symptoms may be caused by persistent or recurrent infection but, in many instances are caused by repeated exposure to, 1) an allergic substance or, 2) to an irritant; that is, they can be caused by something present in your environment.
Avatar n tn It sounds like you have either a scalp issue and/or upper respiratory respiratory infection (cough, sore throat). It sounds like you maybe experiencing drainage issues because of the scratchy sore throat issue. Its pretty normal for your lymph nodes to swell there to fight off localized infections - cough, sore throat, etc. Take some over the counter medication.
Avatar f tn I recently was treated with antibiotics(10 days) and a steroid(6 days) for the cough for an upper respiratory infection, finished my last pills about 5 days ago. These symptoms were minimal by the end of the medications. The cough has returned and is worsening. Also, night sweats and cold flashes are back. Minor chest pains/heaviness and difficulty breathing. I don't have health insurance so I'm trying to avoid the doctor so soon again if possible.
Avatar f tn A PCP needs to examine and see whether you have swollen tonsils, redness at the back of the throat, post nasal drip etc. Pharyngitis, tonsillitis or basically an upper respiratory infection can be due to several pathogens. You should consult your doctor for antibiotics. Also an X-ray of the chest will be needed. Meanwhile you can take an OTC anti-inflammatory and do warm saline gargles 2-3 times a day. Drinking warm lemonade, hot clear soups and herbal tea may soothe the throat considerably.
5864651 tn?1396931970 I have a really bad cold and a chest infection im 39 weeks my mum said she doesnt know anyone who has given birth whilst poorly I just wondered whether anyone has or known anyone whose given birth whilst poorly I just seem to be getting more run down and ill every day
1889242 tn?1321354938 I have an upper respiratory infection that has caused me to run a fever and lose my voice. Since I've been sick, I've had this weird "floating" sensation. I really don't know how to describe it other than I feel a bit like a helium balloon, when I start moving in one direction it's hard to stop and I feel kinda like my feet aren't really touching the floor. As I type that I realize how ridiculous that sounds but that's the only way I know how to explain it.
524272 tn?1212314601 You may probably need an antibiotic. I've recently had an upper respiratory infection and my doc immediately gave me a Z-Pack (azythromycin) and it's helping. I still have coughing just not NEARLY as bad as I did. I spent many nights awake becuase of either my sinuses being so friggin clogged I couldn't breath or I was coughing myself silly. My insides hurt like crazy and I've peed myself so bad I got into the habit of just wearing a heavy flow pad to bed.
170935 tn?1225371076 Turns out the virus was attacking my nervous system as opposed to my respiratory system even though I was having cold/flu-like symptoms. Anyway the reason why i am saying all this is to say that after this bout, I started to get the itchiness in my lungs/chest/upper back. This happened over 2 mnths ago and I've pretty much recovered from every thing else BUT the tightness/wheezing in my chest and the itchy feeling.
Avatar f tn I was tested for allergies 10 years ago, and the tests showed allergies to dust mites. I controlled it through environment. The symptoms I was having at the time (sneezing uncontrollably for hours in the mornings) went away, so I figured I outgrew them. Around the same time I had stomach problems and was diagnosed with acid reflux. I took meds for several years and then went off when the symptoms went away.
Avatar n tn Karnia, the issue is likely an upper respiratory viral infection such as herpes or calcivirus. Over the counter cold medications for humans are very dangerous to cats, and should never be given. You can talk to hyour veterinarian about l-lysine, a safe oral antiviral supplement which can be helpful, and can be obtained OTC.
Avatar f tn Well, I too get upper respiratory infections alot.I take Z pac each time and sometimes I have to take them right after each other. (waiting 5 days in-between of course) My doc finally prescribed a stronger med. For me I know its due to have asthma~ I know when Im stressed or over loaded it weakens my Immune system and makes me more vulnerable to getting the upper respiratory infection. I still haven't had anyone tell me more than what I have learned from getting it every year.
Avatar f tn The information you have provided suggests that the primary problem is respiratory (in your lungs or upper respiratory tract) and the first step should be for your doctor determine what is going on in your lungs or sinuses as it is likely that the other symptoms you describe especially “headache all the time” and fatigue are likely to be secondary to the respiratory problem.
Avatar f tn Temporary loss of smell and taste occurs after upper respiratory infection and a course of antibiotic. Take steam, citrus fruits, multivitamins for a few days. With time the smell and taste will come back. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn But the green colour of the mucus means that there is an infection, probably bacterial, in the upper respiratory tract. The best thing you can do is make sure she sees a vet as soon as possible. She will likely need antibiotic treatment. I hope she will recover very soon.
Avatar m tn headaches, runny nose and sore throat with a cough is an upper respiratory infection, not signs of herpes.
