For the last two weeks I have been having this really bad cough. It hurts in my chest when I cough and feels almost like I am trying to cough up a lung. And now my nose is starting to be runny and there is a lot of mucus that is now draining into my throat making it feel worse, and really sore. Is there any way to get rid of it?
So my dad caught the cold and got me sick. At first I had a sore throat and then later congestion in chest and nose. I feel like its getting worse now(its been a week); it's getting harder to breathe usually in the morning or at night, I took all kinds of medicine to get rid of mucus but it doesn't come out barely, and now the left side of my throat is hurting. Is this a regular cold getting worse or something else?
If you feel you have got chest congestion and you are coughing up nasty discoloured mucus and have nasal congestion, it is highly likely that you have a respiratory infection.
Although the remedies mentioned by the previous posters are good, it doesn't clear up bacterial or viral infections. Antibiotics do not work on viral infections
To help loosen up the congestion do steam inhalations. Get a bowl of very hot water (take care not to get scalded).

Did you taper down, or go cold turkey from 12 Norcos/day? The worst days of total detox are the 3rd and sometimes 4th days. But I hear ya, even within 24 hours, you are hurting bad! The physical symptoms can take up to a week I think to calm down. That's how long it took me when I quit before. Now here I am trying to quit again after a couple surgeries. I'm sure you've done all your research on what you should be eating/drinking and the hots baths and whatnot?

This is what i believe may be my first recurrent outbreak since being diagnosed with hsv-1 two years ago. This morning, around 3 am(I was having touble sleeping), the breathing issue let up suddenly (it was gone in minuts), followed by a duration that the air I breathed in felt very cold (the A/C was on, so I shut it off because of that, though it only helped a little), this mostly passed after about 4 hours.
