I was taking Chantix for about a week and a half when I had to quit it because I was experiencing depression which was getting worse by the day. This is going on the 2nd full day of no Chantix but I am still feeling depressed. I want to know how long does it stay in your system for. I woke up today and felt close to normal and then it came back again.

I also quit smoking and was on Chantix at the same time. I thought the terrible side effects were Chantix. But I still am in trouble after stopping Chantix 7 weeks ago. Pretty nuts, a change from smoking 40 years, Effexor, Chantix, and Prozac. Should I quit every drug and start over?

Yes well stoppping smoking can have side effects and it is know that Chantix can have severe side effects including worsening the symptoms of bipolar. That's not to say it caused it though but you can ask your psychiatrist more when those issues are over and they can make a further determination.

Last night I looked up Chantix side effects on the web and found HUNDREDS of people with problems like mine that persist long after they stopped taking the pill. Many people in their thirties that just had a heart attack one day out of the blue (this is what I am most afraid of happening to me) Does anyone know how to undo the damage that chantix is causing?

There are side effects to every medicine. What helps the first time can have a reverse effect the next time. I have used Wellbutrin for smoking cessation under the advise of a doctor along with other medicines for my anxiety etc And It did help. But after a while I thought that I could take the medicine again for the same purpose. But I felt suicidal and that is when I did some research on internet that confirmed the side effects. So be careful and do not take medicines on your own.

of some pretty serious side effects from that stuff....One being major depression....Did you read up on it or talk to the doc about it? Honestly, I did start taking it a few months back and by the end of the first week I stopped because I was having certain "thoughts" that I have never had....I didn't like that feeling at all....

My friend just quit taking Chantix due to the inability to handle the side effects. She has noticed that since quitting the Chantix alcohol has effected her differently. While on the Chantix she noticed the effects of alcohol tokk in quite quickly where now she seems to have a tolerance that was not there before. Is it possible that theh Chantix caused her intolerabilty to alcohol?

hi and welcome, I've personally never tried Chantrix b/c of the 'side effects' especially IF you have any trouble at all with depression it can be a very dangerous drug!!! Have you tried patches or gum? something less harsh?

So, I have heard horrible stories about the side effects of Chantix, how was it for everyone that has used it?? Despite what people say about the side effects, everyone I know that has used it has successfully quit smoking, but I'm nervous about about what they say it does. I have had several people tell me that they have horrible nightmares, have SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, and feel like they are just down right going crazy???

Chantix can have a lot of side effects, including headaches. They may go away after some use of it for a while. And congratulations on quitting smoking, that is one of the hardest things to do in my oppinion. Chantix originally worked for me. Best of luck!

I am taking Chantix - for the past 3 weeks, and I am having side effects. Depression, crying for no reason, anxious, vivid dreams and just feeling sorry for myself. I too had a blackout with drinking. I had 2 glasses of wine last weekend and I remember nothing, but I woke up with swollen eyes and was told by my husband that I cried, yelled, was a little unstable and did not make a lot of sense. That is really scary.

There is no mention of headaches as a side effect on the Chantix site but it may be that it is a lesser reported one. I never had any problems other then a little gas/queasiness but that wasn't until my second month. Maybe you should try a few more days and if it persists, call the Chantix hotline. my best friend quit smoking but first tried chantix an had some really bad side effects felt strange awful nightmares an had seazure from chantix doc took her off asap. Also seen on tv a lawyer saying if you had bad side effects from taking chantix or even death pls call today we have law suit in effect.

s way better than Celexa or the terrible Chantix. Lexapro is good for depression aswell as anxiety. And there are less side effects with Lexapro. But i wonder why the doc didnt talk about Wellbutrin since its common for those who stop smoking but i guess Lexapro will do just fine since it have the anti-anxiety and anti-depressor effect...

My son took it for 3 months and although he did quit smoking, the side effects have nearly put us over the emotional edge. He had mild side effects while on it, the dreams, slight stomach ache, manageable headaches, but... when he went off it, the whirl wind began. He began with terrible hives, then numbness, dizzy, foggy, moody and the latest is he has been diagnosed with panic and anxiety.
