Avatar m tn I am interested in the prognosis of other infants or young children that have survived an aneurysm through surgery. Any history or information you could share would be appreciated. Avatar n tn ve read, seizures are common among people with cerebral palsy. Despite this fact, my sister has never had a seizure. My concern is that undergoing general anaesthesia will trigger seizures.
Avatar f tn There is a possibility of a partial seizure. But you should also consider something called as eye tics. These are not so uncommon in infants. You may need to get an EEG done. A video EEG is preferred. It has the advantage of letting us see the brain waves during such an episode or up rolling of eyes. Did he have any significant birth complications?
Avatar f tn My son, who is 7 months old, was recently diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. The diagnosis was confirmed on Mar 10, 2014 and he was also diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Anyone have this happen with an infant? I'm trying to figure out what the next steps are in the event of an increase in fluid and pressure. He also is having to see a pediatric eye doctor to check the eye pressure in his eyes.

Avatar f tn Dr. Chasnoff recommends that these infants should have routine ultra-sound evaluations of their kidneys in order to rule out such defects. •There is evidence that the use of cocaine shortly before birth can be associated with cerebral infarction (stroke) which damages the brain of the newborn.
Avatar m tn ACTH therapy is given for seizures in infants (infantile seizures) not controlled by usual seizure control medications. Usually these infants suffer from epilepsy related syndromes such as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Landau-Kleffner syndrome. Mild variants of such seizures may improve with ACTH. In severe cases there is not much hope. I am sorry, but please continue your follow up at NIMHANS. Take care!
Avatar f tn After a month, she got 2 episodes in 3 days gap. Doctors suggested to give Levipil 100ml syrup 1ml in morning and 1 ml in evening. She is not having further seizures in last 2 months now. Is it the correct medication? How much time we need to continue this medication? Any known side effects of Levipil for infants?
Avatar f tn It is well known that vitamin B12 deficiency causes developmental delay and brain atrophy in infants and children. This has been reported in medical journals and texts since the 1960’s. The medical community (pediatricians, neurologists) is not routinely checking children who present with the first concern of developmental delay for B12 deficiency which is problematic and a clinical error.

Avatar m tn Chronic migraine Chronic tension type headache New daily persistent headache Hemicrania continua In most of the cases the cause of chronic daily headache is unknown, in some cases however underlying causes like inflammation of cerebral blood vessels, meningitis, high or low ICP, pinched nerves in the back, brain tumor and traumatic brain injury have been identified. Treatment is mainly with antidepressants, beta blockers, anti seizure medications, and NSAIDS. http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn Epilepsy is a recurrent seizure disorder caused by abnormal electrical discharges from brain cells, often in the cerebral cortex. A seizure disorder affects about 0.5% of the population. A single seizure does not mean that someone has epilepsy. I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I sometimes experience a sharp headache like pain on the left side of my head and I cannot move. The pain is exquisite and I pray for it to stop. I have cerebral arteriosclerosis but I take Neurontin. Is this possibly a symptom of a mild form of epilepsy?
Avatar f tn Started very sudden, haven't told husband yet.

Avatar n tn He related that it smelled like vomit, Im hoping this means it was definitely from his stomach and not anything else we have to worry about such as cerebral fluid. Any guidance before we speak to his neurologist would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn My 4 yr old son was diagnosed with seizure disorder 7/2012. Genetic and metabolic work-up turned out negative.  MRI  did show cortical dysplasia, Left Temporal Lobe. We've done monotherapy with Trileptal  and failed, and have recently added Keppra on the regimen. So far, he hasn't had his night time seizures but he has these episode in the morning where he gets startled, starts grunting,  his arms gets stif; it lasts just a few seconds so I could never get a video of it.

Avatar f tn She could be having absence seizures. An absence seizure is an episode of brain dysfunction in which the child is "lost" for a few seconds. Things may fall from hands, the child appears to "stare" at a particular direction, but can't communicate. She will probably need a regular EEG monitoring and probably some anti-seizure medication. Absence seizures are known to disappear with increasing age. Please keep a close watch on her academic progress.
Avatar f tn I had numbness the following day in my face but that eventually subsided. Now I have a strange feeling in my head that comes and goes. I had an MRI to rule out stroke and these were the findings: 1. No evidence of acute infarction. 2. Bifrontal convexity and cerebral vertex extra-axial susceptibility effect is likely from the overlying bone or dural calcifications. 3. Possible right parietal scalp foreign body. My question is..
Avatar m tn Hypoxia is an established trigger for an epileptic seizure and many normal individuals will seize when in such an environment. It is not certain you will have a seizure, however the threshold of sensitivity will be affected. If you want to test the theory get permission from the FAA to attend a course in which you sit in their high altitude chamber with reduced oxygen content and see if you have a seizure.
477608 tn?1238527958 Generally speaking, many institutions consider the edge of viability to be in the 23-24 week gestational age range. This guidelines for resuscitating infants born at this extreme prematurity vary from institution to institution. In terms of mortality, the vast majority of infants born at 23 weeks will not survive, and approximately 50% of infants born at 24 weeks survive.
Avatar f tn You really need your pediatric neurologist to evaluate your baby for the type of seizure. My newborn had seizures during his first week and is on seizure control meds (phenobarbitol) to control it. Seizures were different, however. Try not to worry, you probably need medications to control them. They might want to do an MRI and CT scan to verify any brain damage...
Avatar m tn Stereotypic behavior (simple repetitive movements like body rocking, hand flapping, non-functional vocalizations) is a fairly common problem that is seen in both individuals with developmental disorders and in typically- developing infants and children.
Avatar f tn sir my brother is having fits from last 15 years...and till 2009 he had his EEG n MRI of brAIN but everything normal...now he had his EEG yesterday and the report is """abnormal interictal record of symptomatic partial seizure of left cerebral origin """...now he is on medication..
