Cellcept liver damage

Common Questions and Answers about Cellcept liver damage

cellcept

Avatar f tn some patients metabolize the prograf much more than others, especially after a partial liver transplant. It is still early after the transplant. as long as the liver tests are OK, he shouldn't worry. They should slowly push the dose of the prograf up, while he is taking the cellcept.
Avatar f tn My mother had liver transplant two years back. She had chronic liver problem (liver scan showed rough surface) before transplant but had no HCV. For the last one year, her liver enzymes have been very high (GGT can touch 1800, for example). When that happens, the doctor increases PanGraf / Cellcept dosage and a particular steroid (wysolone). After that the enzymes go back to normal - except GGT which goes down but still remains well above normal (say, falls from 1800 to 300).
Avatar n tn you can check the liver transplant pregnancy registry (dr vincent armenti runs it) about this specifically but I think most phyisicians feel that cellcept is safe. Autoimmune hepatitis can get much worse during pregnancy and high doses of steroids could make fluid retention and HTN worse. You definitely cannot stay on that high hose of prednisone regardless as it will have enormous side affects. I would recommend the cellcept to get you down or off steroids. have you tried azathioprine?
Avatar n tn Hi all. This place sure looks different from the last time I was here... I was wondering if any of you had had the opportunity to have your blood levels of vitamin d tested, and if so how many of you were deficient? I ask because I sort of took myself off the cellcept I was on and only continued with 5 mg of prednisone for almost a year. Of course I progressively felt worse until I went back to my primary and asked for a refferal to a different GI doc.
Avatar m tn Should the transplant team/doctor monitor liver transplant patients taking cellcept post liver transplant over time? Is there a significant threat of cellcept causing lymphoma?
1135761 tn?1260557094 I am 5 months post liver transplant. I feel my endurance is decreasing. Other symptoms include: bad taste in mouth, aches and pains with muscles and joints, diarrhea, and headache. No fever or nausea. Am I just complaining or should I take more seriously. I had blood drawn today. My next appointment with my transplant team is june 15.
686869 tn?1227199935 My AST=70 and my ALT=70. My creatinine lvl=1.86. I take cellcept = 500mg 1x day and 1x night and prograf 1mg = 2 x day and 2 x night. I lift weights 4 x week and jog 1 mile every other day. I have no real physical problems other than sleep issues. I worry all the time about the above levels slowly increasing. My Dr./gastroenterologist monitors my blood. There has been no sugestion of taking interferon again. What is the next step for me.
Avatar m tn i presume that a liver biopsy confirmed the presence of rejection and not HCV. If so, then the treatment is optimizing doses and levels of cellcept and prograf and trying to minimize the use of parenteral corticosteroids.
960462 tn?1284991345 s, and indicators do heart issues, my question is does cellcept work as well? does morbidity go up the second time around? Is there something better to use? More chest pain this time. thanks for your input!
Avatar f tn My husband had autoimmune hepatitis and had liver transplant in March of 2003, he is doing well however, he stopped taking his meds 3 months ago because the meds is very expensive as he say, now he went back to take his meds that is Cellcept and Prograf . He now is feeling pain on his left side of his belly and it is really like distended and hard.and very warm to touch. His belly like shifted to the left ever since he had the surgery.
312330 tn?1245176752 cellcept causes no liver problems whatsoever and although imuran may, it is a very rare cause of hepatotoxicity. methotrexate and being on steroids long-term is not the answer. Has Crohn's disease been ruled out entirely?
Avatar f tn We used an immune functional assay to help assess the etiology of abnormal liver function test results in liver transplant recipients. Blood samples for the immune functional assay were taken from 42 recipients prospectively at various times post-transplant and compared with clinical and histologic findings.
Avatar f tn My husband had a liver transplant on Aug.5th - and has been **** well. Today he broke out in hives all over his head. He is itching terribly - and the 2nd Benadryl hasn't helped. He is on Cellcept, prograf, and is in a clinical trial (so we don't really know what the extra meds are). Should we be concerned???
Avatar m tn Based on ALT/AST continuing to rise to the 300/400 level, and not rejection but hcv, what is the general action taken. Do you lower the prograf or cellcept and monitor closely? What is your experience in this scenario as far as the outcome?
Avatar n tn I had a breakthrough with Avonex so my dr. recommended adding cellcept to the avonex shots. If so can you tell me how you have done with cellcept. Thanks!!!!
Avatar f tn Side effects of azathioprine may include difficulty fighting infections and nausea. Rare side effects include liver damage, pancreas inflammation (pancreatitis) and cancer. Other immunosuppressants. If you don't respond to prednisone or azathioprine, your doctor may prescribe stronger immunosuppressants, such as mycophenolate (CellCept), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune, others) or tacrolimus (Prograf).
Avatar f tn s after transplant and began to slowly trend downward. The platelets are now in the mid 30k. A vascular liver ultrasound was done to rule out any clots or blockage...thankfully, the u/s shows good blood flow, etc. The spleen appears to be enlarged...especially for such a petite person. Prior to transplant, the platelets were always low, which ranged in the 50ks. But I know that was due to the cirrohic liver and enlarged spleen. Not sure what's causing the decrease of platelet count now?
560748 tn?1226864517 I have been told that I am at the near the end of stage three of the liver disease and am border line fibrosis and cirrosis but that there is still quite a large window to work with. At the moment my ALTs are fairly good at 49. They have dropped substantially. I am on 1 g Mycophenalate Mofetil twice daily, 750g Ursodeoxycholic Acid three times daily and Ezetimbe 10g daily for cholesterol. I feel clinically fit and weigh 9 st 3 lb.
Avatar f tn that affected my legs so my Dr. just prescribed Cellcept. I filled the prescription yesterday and was scared to death after reading the literature on it. What is PPMS? I will be interested in seeing if anyone has used this medication too. Sunnyb.
778275 tn?1326913623 After a upper respiratory infection last month I have been having someone more weaknesses and even a slight breathing problem at times, so he wants to put me on Cellcept. The problem is Cellcept can cause Lymphoma and other side effects and infection risk,. I want to get off Prednisone due to weight gain and creeping up hypertension and the Mestinin digestive problems are a real pain.

Avatar f tn Anyone on cellcept having back pain? I've been having back pain for a couple of weeks now, wake up earlier and earlier in the morning with my back aching and when I move it I get these stabbing pains. It all goes away when I get up, and I've managed to sleep a bit in the morning in a half-seated position, so it's really related to lying down. I just read someplace that cellcept can cause back pain, but I haven't been able to find any info on what kind of pain. Could this be it?
Avatar m tn and have been on Mestinon 240 mgs daily and cellcept 2000mg daily.I am a healthy 68 yr. old.Just lately I/m noticing cold, sensitive toes and and sciattiaca or nerve pain on complete right side, shoulder, hip to toes on 1 leg only,But both feet have red swollen toes. Drug side effects?
Avatar n tn I would ask the team to make sure you do not have a plasma-cell hepatitis on the liver biopsy. retransplantation can always be an option but one that should be avoided at all costs.
Avatar m tn The recommended dose of paracetamol for a single adult is two standard 500 mg tablets. Researches have reported that the threshold for liver damage to start from a single paracetamol overdose is 15 gms (30 tablets). However liver damage could start to occur at a single overdose of 24 standard tablets or 150 mg/kg body weight, (whichever is the smaller).
Avatar f tn (Former drug user) what are the chances I already have liver damage??? I go in the morning for a liver scan to check and I am nervous to know!!!
