Avatar n tn I have discoid lupus and would like to know what kind of face cleansers and moisturizers should I use?
1878464 tn?1320559437 erythematodes (discoid) and Lupus: erythematosus (discoid), not disseminated. I was trying to research this online and found a site for the different types of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (with pictures). Discoid, to me, appears more as rash. What I have appears to be Lupus Profundus, based on visual observation. The site I am referring to above is http://dermnetnz.org/immune/cutaneous-lupus.html (It has some pretty pictures for reference).
Avatar f tn I see ou wrote this a while back but I am hoping you are still here and will see my question. I am supposed to start taking Cellcept for Lupus and I can't find anyone who can tell me anything about how they did on it. Are you there? Did you have any side effects while on it?
Avatar n tn Depends on which Lupus you have Discoid Lupus is an inflammation of the skin and systemic lupus can cause a myriad of orans to be affected which could cause itching. See your family physician or rheumatologist to help with itching. There are over the counter meds like diphenhydramine(benadryl) to help with itching. Also you could see a dermatologist to further investigate the cause as well as try drugs like atarax for itching. Good luck.
997730 tn?1254278376 Discoid Lupus does not always develop into Systemic Lupus. In fact, most people with Discoid Lupus do not develop Systemic Lupus. However, the doctors do need to keep checking to be sure that it does not develop into Systemic Lupus. Most initial treatment of Discoid Lupus calls for Hydroxychlorquine (oral) and topical steroids. Other drugs can be added if needed. Maybe the Rheumatologist has you on oral Prednisone to calm down the lesions?
2183922 tn?1340289260 It may not be high enough for the doctor to call you positive for Lupus. But did they biopsy your face rash? You may have discoid lupus or systemic. Did they do a RA test and anti DNA? You can ask the doctor about those too. They usually are all positive for Lupus. The homogeneous pattern is typical of Lupus too but other things can cause a positive ANA. If your doctor is not a specialist in Lupus I would get a good rheumatologist this is.
Avatar m tn s 52 years old and has had discoid lupus (lupus erythematosus discoides) for 7 years now. Naturally, since it's an autoimmune disease, she's worried about whether she can get vaccinated against COVID19 or not. She had asked one doctor (not an immunologist though) but he hasn't given her a clear answer. She also has not been able to reach an immunologist since it's hard to reach doctors for non-emergencies or non-COVID issues anywhere now.
Avatar n tn I have lupus myself and I have never heard of that. Lupus can cause rashes. (I am referring to systemic lupus, aka SLE). There is another form of lupus called discoid lupus. If she has that, perhaps the lesions could be related. I don't know much about that kind. The systemic kind is known for affecting various organ systems (kidneys, lungs, heart, etc.) The common rash that many systemic lupus patients have is a "malar rash" which covers the nose and the upper part of the cheeks.
Avatar m tn Are you talking about discoid lupus (skin only affected). or systemic? A history of eg Raynauds syndrome (google it?) is another pointer. ESR, a test for inflammation in the body is often raised, but again not always. My ESR was normal yet on an MRI my hip and leg muscles were very inflamed. With SLE rheumatoid arthritis is commonly a problem.
Avatar f tn But my friend had negative ANA and the biopsy of her rash (discoid lupus) was the only thing that came up positive. If it is systemic lupus you may not have a rash but you should have the other symptoms such as going pain, rash on the face, sun senstiivity and so forth. It may be a different autoimmune disorder too. The 1:160 is on the edge of positive. I hope you are going to a hematologist or rheumatologist?
Avatar f tn If a doctor suspects this condition, a skin biopsy needs to be done to confirm the diagnosis because other conditions can look like discoid lupus erythematosus. If the skin biopsy shows discoid lupus erythematosus, then further blood testing may be indicated." Source:http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/discoid_lupus_eryt.html A negative ANA does not necessarily rule out an autoimmune disorder.
Avatar n tn What you have,Discoid lupus erythematosis is a minor variant as compared with the other more serious lupus erythematosis. This DLE is a disease when our body reacts to itself called an autoimmune disease.Drugs like plaquenil stop this process.Truly it is an antimalarial but then works here too.It is quite safe if you get eyes tested to rule out a rare chance of optic neuritis.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Lupus Nephritus IV , my doctor had me do a 3 day IV treatment of 1g solu Medrol , each, that was a week ago. I was already on prednisone 60 mg a day and right before the treatment Cellcept was added. I am feeling like I got hit by bus ! I read elsewhere that most of my current issues are withdrawal from the Solu Medrol . I was wondering if anyone else has had this treatment and how long it took to feel" normal" ?
Avatar f tn t want to raise any alarm bells but it sounds exactly like what my skin did before I was dx. with discoid lupus; the itching, swelling, rash, lesions. The only thing you didn't mention was the hair loss. Discoid lupus lesions will manifest in areas not actually exposed to the sun. Do hope you get a good diagnosis. I'm with kindd ~ Take care and pls do keep us posted on how you are doing. Regards.
Avatar m tn When internal organs are involved, the condition is called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Both discoid and systemic lupus are more common in women than men. Common complaints and symptoms include fatigue, low-grade fever, loss of appetite, muscle aches, arthritis, ulcers of the mouth and nose, facial rash ("butterfly rash") and photosensitivity to light.
Avatar f tn If ANA is <1, RNP Antibodies 0.2, Smith Antibodies <0.2, Antiscleroderma-71 Antibodies <0.2, Sjogren's Anti SSA,<02,Sjogren's Anti SSB <0.2, Antichromatin Antibodies <0.2, Anti-jo-1 <0.2, anticentromere B Antibodies <0.2... and the range is 0.0 - 0.9..Does this mean I have Lupus? and if not what diagnosis does this lab result indicate? and the severity?
Avatar f tn Before that the doctor(2001) told me that I had discoid lupus! I too am trying to have a baby and on Friday will be trying my first iui! My doc says I am a difficult case and is working with the lupus doc! I have to take aspirin everday! I am just wondering if you have been succesful at getting pregnant! Also do you suffer from poly cystic ovarian or endometriosis?
1415174 tn?1453243103 She also has Lupus but she has seen a dermatologist and rheumatologist and they dismiss it as acne. She knows she is out of remission with discoid lupus but she also has systemic lupus. But they assured her the 'acne" is not lupus breakout. Since this drug causes a lot of hormonal changes she wondering if it is a sign of anything else going on or a side effect of Armidex? Also, she was on Metrogel and she was allergic to it and it gave her second degree burns.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Has anyone experienced a full face full of acne for a prolonged period after starting Arimidex? It is my friend who had breast cancer and she is blind and wants to write for her. She also has Lupus but she has seen a dermatologist and rheumatologist and they dismiss it as acne. She knows she is out of remission with discoid lupus. But they assured her the 'acne" is not lupus breakout.
Avatar f tn Hi there I have discoid lupus - it only affects my scalp. I was diagnosed with it round about the same time I got my MS dx. No link that I know of.
Avatar m tn ) and 20 years later it turns out after she went blind from plaquinil toxicity (which more common that that state) it turns out they were basing it all on a biopsy. Well the biopsy of her face (discoid Lupus) was confused with her rosacea. Which apparently look similar on biopsy. So, she wants me to spread the word about home much they misdiagnose people. Anyway, how long has it been since exposure that you think you were exposed to HSV-2? You can do an IgG after 3 months after exposure.
984010 tn?1255796138 Did your docs do any lab work such as ANA or SSA or SSB blood test? What meds did she give you? I have SS,Lupus and Fibo, RA and I have gone through the gaunlet of meds and nothing has worked except pain medication. Right now my doc is tring Cellcept. The jury is still out. But I have been on steroids, Plaquenil, Arava, Methotrexate and now Cellcept.
