Celexa weight changes

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa weight changes

celexa

Avatar f tn It's not a wash-out period, it's the withdrawal. Celexa physiologically leaves your system within hours, but the brain doesn't adapt very well sometimes to not having the drug in the system and goes through a withdrawal. I can be significant or minor or non-existent, but to play it safe these meds are tapered down slowly to minimize any possible withdrawal. Actually, meds that wash out of the system more slowly, like Prozac, tend to have fewer withdrawal problems.
Avatar f tn Wow... I just started taking Celexa a month ago for anxiety/depression. Not bipolar, not taking anything else... I haven't gained a pound. I've always been thin, so I'm hoping this helps me gain weight. :) How long were ya'll taking Celexa before ya'll started to gain weight? Thanks, - RJ.
Avatar f tn I am fixing to start working out again and trying to eat healthier. Does anyone know if celexa hinders weight loss with proper diet and exercise.
Avatar f tn I am convinced that my Celexa is a major culprit in my weight gain. Before Celexa, I was on Zoloft, and the first week on Zoloft I lost weight, but then stabilized and slowly began to gain weight. the weight gain was not a big amount but it did happen. Then a few yrs later, I began having problems on Zoloft so my Doc switched me to Celexa, and "whamo!", BIG WEIGHT GAIN! It was amazing! On top of the weight gain, Celexa has made me lethargic and very tired.
Avatar m tn I was on Celexa and gained 40lbs in 6 months.. I'm sure we are all different, but Celexa made me gain weight too.
Avatar f tn I've been on Celexa for quite sometime, and it continues to work very well. If it reaches a point where it doesn't, consult with your doctor, I'm sure there is an alternative. I haven't gained any weight and it's my understanding the weight gain is not a side effect of this drug. I recently lost 40 lbs. I would not take this at night without consulting with your doctor first.
Avatar m tn I was wondering how much weight gain anyone has experienced with celexa ? Or any of the other antidepresents?
527657 tn?1214051850 No matter how little I ate nor how much I exercised-the weight kept packing on. I never had a hard time maintaining my weight before the Celexa. I am now overweight and even though I have weened myself off of the drug the pounds are still difficult to lose. This drug ruined my physicality. I was fit and active in a healthy, strong body before I started. In just a year and 4 months it made me deteriorate into a fat muscle-less wad.
Avatar n tn I'm currently on Paxil and Xanax, and have been experiencing a complete loss of appetite most days. I started eating a few days ago, but I'm only on 10mg a day for the Paxil. It takes a while for stuff to kick in, but this med has made me lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks. When I was 14 (I'm now 25) I was put on Celexa, and I was on it for a couple of years. I remember the Dr. increased my dosage a few times, and eventually I felt like a zombie. And YES I did gain weight.
Avatar f tn m on Celexa now but am wondering if maybe Lexapro would be better since anxiety is my biggest concern. Has anyone had suggest with Lexapro. Also does Lexapro cause weight gain like Celexa?
1714202 tn?1352672419 Hey all, new to this page. I've written in the alcoholism part before. Anyway, I've recently been diagnosed with bipolar 2 which I've assumed for years! I'm on abilify, lamictal, celexa, and ativan. I'm constantly fidgety and results, and can't concentrate on anything at all right now! There's more too but those are the most annoying right now. Am I still manic or is this side effects from my medication? Any advice would be helpful.
Avatar f tn A hypoactive thyroid can cause symptoms including depressed mood, diminished libido, decreased energy, weight changes, etc.
Avatar n tn I then switched to 10 mg of celexa. I am having severe headaches, confusion, dizziness, tremors, naseau, lack of appetite and diarrhea. I have only been on the celexa for 5 days. I am also having lots of muscle pain. Am I still withdrawing from the zoloft or am I having serotonin syndrome? I have been on antidepressants for 13 years and should have weaned much slower. Thanks for your help. This has been going on for weeks now.
Avatar f tn My research has shown that quite a few people gain weight on SSRIs. Before I started taking Celexa, I read only information given on the medical sites. I believed the literature given out with the drug and started taking it. I wish I never started. Their clinical trials only show that short term use doesn't seem to cause weight gain. However, it seems that long term use has a rather high occurrence of weight gain.
Avatar n tn My doctor just switched me from Celexa to Wellbutron. I was gaining weight and she thought this would help. She told me to stop the celexa and start the other. This has been almost 2 weeks ago and I am going through the most horrible withdrawl symptoms. I don't know how long this is supposed to go on, but I am really getting worried. I am dizzy and feeling like I am going to throw up. I have that "jolt" feeling going through me and I am finding it hard to function.
Avatar m tn It has been 11 years since I was first diagnosed with a bipolar spectrum disorder: first, cyclothymia, soon after bipolar 2, and, recently (after thorough re-examination of my long-term history) bipolar 1. My medication regimen has evolved to the point now where I'm maintaining on Lamictal and Celexa, with later additions of bupropion and most recently Strattera for symptoms of ADHD that persisted.
Avatar n tn I had the same problem when I switched form celexa to wellbutrin. Wellbutrin did nothing for me. (BTW there isn't much difference between lexapro and celexa except celexa probably won't give you much weight gain) So when Wellbutrin didn't work I wen't on paxil and gained some weight but sexual side effects remained. Then I quit paxil and now take effexor with clonazepam. I feel OK so far but still too early to judge.
Avatar n tn ve just been put on citalopram for depression and BDD and after reading the reviews and side effects leaflets, im worried about gaining weight on this medication...Is it the actual increase in hunger that causes weight gain or the tablet itself? I am quite worried about this as my body image issues make me scared about putting on weight..
4548569 tn?1356292637 I have been taking 20 milligrams of generic Celexa for about 4 months to treat anxiety and depression. I was apprehensive to try Celexa because I had heard so many bad things about it. However, within a short time after taking it I noticed a huge improvement in both my depression and anxiety. I am very happy with the Celexa. One problem I am having though is that I have changed as a person and I suspect it is from the Celexa.
Avatar f tn I have been on Wellbutrin for over a year and my panic attacks came back in full swing and I went to the doctor and they swiched me to Celexa and I am worried that it is going to make me gain all of the weight back that I lost from going off of Zoloft I am also worried that it is going to make me tired like Zoloft did. Has anyone experienced this before? The first day I switched I had horrible shakiness and BIG panic attacks. Anyone have any advice or experiences to share! Thanks!
Avatar m tn I was on methadone for over 7 years, have been off since mid March and I have been sick, nauseated anxious and depressed ever since, I can't take it anymore. My doctor just put me on Celexa and it has only been 3 days and I am going out of my mind, my symptoms are magnified x 10! Don't know what to do, can't make it through the day barely! He said I may feel worse for a couple of days but this is unbelieveable. Please help.
Avatar f tn my dr wants me to try wellbutrin in the monring n celexa at night...i was on celexa and gained 18 lbs..i am sensitive with my weight i do not wanna gain weight...has anyone been on these combos ?
Avatar f tn I'm 45 yrs and I feel like I have achieved absautely nothing. To get to the point////// the best years of my body looking good is over!!!! Since I been injecting copaxone in my thighs the have truly taken on a whole new shape...not the most flattering....my neuro said I don't have that deformity that is associated with copaxone, I gueas with my weight gain, from the differnt x's of using prenisone, zoloft, and I'm not sure but copaxone has steroids in it as well ???
Avatar n tn hi my doctor is putting my wife on celexa for her anxiety and panic attacks, i was wondering does anyone take it and how it makes you feel, she has been taking buspar for 3 days and i think it made her worse and help would be greatly aprreciated
Avatar m tn The withdrawal could just be from the difference in the chemical makeup of the Cymbalta and the Celexa even though both are an SSRI. My Doctor started me slowly on Celexa (30 mg) for 7 days and then upped me to 60 mg so the side effects wouldn't be so bad. Celexa was very good, but I started to lose a lot of weight on it so he switched me to Wellbutrin. Just hang in there and keep taking your medicine as your doctor has prescribed. You'll get through it.
Avatar m tn Namaste, I notice you make a lot of posts with regards to your concerns over your medication(s). Your doctor prescribed them for a particular reason and thought that the prescribed drug was the appropriate one under the circumstances. You will usually feel minor changes in your physiology when first starting a medication(that's normal) and those changes will dissipate after taking the medication for a long enough period. If you're esoecially concerned, talk with your doctor.
