Celexa vs zoloft for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa vs zoloft for anxiety

Avatar f tn The celexa (40mgs) is working ok for my panic attacks and anxiety but not great.... The zoloft worked great for years but pooped out on me at 200 mgs about 1 1/2 years ago. Everything I read says the odds are pretty slim that it will work the same again....DO I give it a shot or stay on the celexa and maybe add something with it ( her suggestion, wellburtrin ) I have been on the Celexa since last summer. Really confused about meds.
Avatar f tn Celexa is very close in chemical makeup, but that one didn't work well for me for my anxiety. I know it does for others, with minimal side effects, so it may be a good choice.
Avatar n tn Zoloft vs Celexa (Cipramil) Which have people found better are treating Panic Disorder?
222417 tn?1241567900 decreased anxiety. It isn't uncommon for a medication to cease doing it's job as it once did for you. Hopefully you will transition well and will experience good results with the Celexa. If not...you have MANY other options...if not with another SSRI medication (ie Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, Prozac)...but then with another TCA med. Go into it with an open mind...give yourself time...
Avatar m tn I really need to start again a SSRI for my extreme panic disorder and I want to know if the Celexa will work to stop the panic disorder, since I took it for my social phobia at 60 mg/day back in 1999 for 6 months and it did nothing for the social anxiety and my anxiety level didn't improve on it? I ask that question cause last year I wanted to try again the Lexxapro, who is the improve Celexa and I had strong side-effects on it, wasn't able to tolerate a little dose of 2.
Avatar n tn The only difference between my twin and me is the zoloft. Its too bad because the zoloft works well for my anxiety and panic but I will try to find a different medication now. I was on Celexa in the past and didn't notice any weight gain on that.
Avatar n tn I have read that Celexa is good for anxiety, depression and bulimia. I have not been on it long enough to see if it stops any of these problems I currently have but the side effects are minimal so far.
Avatar f tn i do live with ALOT of regret due to my addiction and that may be some of what is causing my depression. and i am gonna stick with the celexa for a bit longer and see what happens. thanks for responding.
672514 tn?1265658741 Been taking 30 mg of celexa for just over 4 weeks for anxiety....had dry mouth and a little fogginess for the first couple of weeks but that has worn off. I'm much better than I was without the celexa but still think it needs more time (or possible dosage adjustment)....been wondering if I should try lexapro but hate to change since I'm so far into the celexa. No ED for me....but was warned it was a possibility.
225237 tn?1333142599 There are MUCH better drugs to help with interim anxiety. Ask him for Lorazepam. If he doesn't wanna go for it, see a psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn I've been on Celexa for 6 weeks now. I knew about the possible weight gain so I started upping my exercise and really watching my food intake from the get-go. I have actually lost weight since I started taking it. You couldn't tell that from my weight tracker because I had surgery last week and have gained a couple pounds back but that's to be expected I guess. I just encourage you that not everyone gains weight on Celexa.
Avatar f tn My old doctor that I went to for 10 years had me on SSRI's and they caused me to have that racey jittery type anxiety feeling. My side effects on the SSRI's (Celexa, Zoloft, Effexor) were a jittery racey type anxiety, sexual side effects (less on Celexa), and overslept in the mornings before work because I was so groggy (mornings only). This doctor said I have depression/anxiety, not a mood disorder.
Avatar f tn I got the sweats with Lexapro and its progenitor Celexa, and they never have gone away completely. It's a balance between the benefits vs. the downsides. What I do is take a shower before going to bed and in the summer keep the AC one degree cooler than I normally would.
Avatar f tn Hi again! I'm on week 3, or thereabouts of Zoloft, and I've been suffering a few side effects. Though these aren't too bad, I'm wondering if they are likely to disappear or continue.. I've been suffering some mild insomnia, excess sweating, but perhaps most off putting is the lack of libido and sexual response!! I realise these are listed side effects, but will these resolve themselves or are they something I'm simply stuck with if I chose to continue with the medication?

I will let everyone know how this all turns out! The sad fact now is that after all these turn of events, my fiancé is content with just one baby.
Avatar n tn I was on xannax for many years. My last rx was for 1 mg three times a day. It stopped working and I tried to get off of it. BIG MISTAKE!! The most awful experience of my LIFE! I was rxed Klonopin 1mg three times a day, and no more xannax. The transition worried me, but it was a lifesaver for anxiety. I have been on it for 1 month, and hope it doesn't stop working.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have had experience with both Lexipro and Wellbutrin. I was on Lexipro for 2 years and it worked very well for anxiety. I got off it because I was uncomfortable with the weight gain/tiredness. I started taking Wellbutrin about a month ago and have been more anxious than without drugs plus I am agitated and bouncing off the walls. I also awoke with depression on several days and am typically not a depressed person.
Avatar n tn The reason I'm switching to Klonipin is that I feel that Xanax XR is not working well anymore for me. I take Effexor XR for depression and anxiety, and I also take Lyrica for headaches and anxiety as well. So, you can see, I'm a mess as far as anxiety issues go! Can you shed some light on Xanax XR vs plain old Xanax? Thanks so much!
Avatar n tn ) Withdrawl symptoms were unpleasant but not near as crippling as I've read about (mostly brain zaps). Now I've been on Wellbutrin for about 4 months--not doing much for me. Anxiety has crept back but all side effects gone--I feel like my old self again--good and the bad. So do I strike a new Faustian bargain with Effexor?
Avatar f tn You bring up an interesting topic for sure.... I'll try to shed a little bit of light on the topic if possible. First, there are (as most of you already know) SEVERAL different kinds of SSRI's...and while they all basically end up doing the same thing...they all achieve that result (allowing more serotonin to be available for our brains) different ways, chemically. Therefore, CERTAIN SSRI's are more optimal for different diagnoses.
Avatar n tn I know its a lower level drug but Valium and Xanax seem to be great treatment for anxiety...I've been put on Paxil and Zoloft and Buspar and all those "anti-depressives" to me thats the doctors just writting off scripts to get paid from the pharm. companies... next time you go into an office look at all the "promo" stuff there is for all these meds....doctors use the anti-depressants on people as if you're being tested.
118074 tn?1228332603 I remember when I was on Zoloft it took a good three weeks to kick in. I am on my way to the dr myself Thurs. for him to change my meds so I won't get depressed after I have my baby. I am on one now that knocks me out at night - it helps me sleep. I am going to switch so i can be alert for my baby. We can both learn to sleep through the night at the same time? Good luck with everything - again thanks for the info. I hope everything works out with your parents too!!
Avatar f tn I was told I wouldn't be as tired on Prozac and that it might help me better with anxiety. I chose against it. I asked for Paxil. I have read that Paxil is good for anxiety. My doc was willing to let me try Paxil so I left with a script for Paxil. I wonder if I should've tried the Prozac. I had a doc tell me once that Paxil causes significant weight gain. Should I have tried Prozac? I don't want to gain a bunch of weight or stay tired all day long.
Avatar n tn Odd as it may seem, while it would be unusual for a doctor to prescribe an anxiety specific- med for an essentially physical problem, it is not that unusual to see the beta-blocker prescribed for anxiety. Go figure.
Avatar f tn I have heard horror stories about coming off of paxil and zoloft which is why I opted for the prozac vs the others. I could have chosen celexa too. My other medication for my stomach is pretty pricey and that is not an option not to take so I figured I would start with the cheepest here. Also, I am more comfortable going with an older drug....I figure the kinks are worked out of it.
Avatar m tn basis (for rescue relief vs a steady action) until the AD's started stabilizing my anxiety for me. My usage of the benzos widely varied depending on my symptoms, but I never relied on them long term as I was fortunate to have a lot of anxiety symptom management with the SSRI's. It was always nice to know they were there if I needed them....many times just that fact was enough to ease the anticipatory anxiety for me.
415867 tn?1323369103 5mg for my RLS and iron 325mg for my low iron and ferritin. When I have increase in anxiety i take lorazepam which is usually at night for me right before bed. Do any of these combo of drugs increase wt gain? I just don't know where to turn as for as the increasing in wt. Any advice would be helpful!
