Celexa vs zoloft for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa vs zoloft for anxiety

celexa

Avatar f tn The celexa (40mgs) is working ok for my panic attacks and anxiety but not great.... The zoloft worked great for years but pooped out on me at 200 mgs about 1 1/2 years ago. Everything I read says the odds are pretty slim that it will work the same again....DO I give it a shot or stay on the celexa and maybe add something with it ( her suggestion, wellburtrin ) I have been on the Celexa since last summer. Really confused about meds.
Avatar f tn Advice12 - I have such a difficult time with most medications, especially SSRI's, but I can't even take a Sudafed without being jittery and feeling strange. Granted, we are all different, but with that being said, I had virtually no side effects from Lexapro. Celexa is very close in chemical makeup, but that one didn't work well for me for my anxiety. I know it does for others, with minimal side effects, so it may be a good choice.
Avatar m tn Should a patient be on zoloft and celexa at the same time. I have a patient on celexa 20mg that started 5/17/11. She was previously on Zoloft 200mg daily that has been decreased to 100mg daily x7 days then 50mg x7days then d/c. My problem is this combination of the two. Should she have finished the tapering of zoloft before starting the celexa?
Avatar f tn Depends on your md but zoloft and wellbutrin( no clue how to spell that) are frequently prescribed to pregnant women. Also depends on how severe the depression is a risks vs benefits thing. As far as anxiety not really sometimes anti depressants help. My md said take benadryl, it doesn't make you less anxious but makes you sleepy...
1394445 tn?1351023345 Hello! As you can imagine, we get this question a good bit. There's no simple answer to your question, mainly because everyone is different, everyone's anxiety is diffierent, everyone's medical history is different, etc. SSRIs, like Zoloft, Prozac, etc are usually the first line treatment when it comes to anxiety meds, because they work (for most people) and they're fairly easily tolerated. You seem to have an aversion to taking them, is there a reason?
Avatar f tn Thank you for sharing your experience with Celexa. I have a script. I haven't started it yet. I had a hard time with Zoloft & worried that I will have the same SE with Celexa. I am happy this med works so well for you. Hopefully it will do the same for me! As long as I have energy with no weight gain I will be super happy. And of course it helps with the anxiety. *anyone else have an experience with Celexa they want to share please do. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Celexa made me really sick to my stomach ...I'm on Activan right know but not a long term med to addicting going bk to the dr next week!
Avatar f tn On the other hand, he has warned me that Zoloft is more activating, which is not good for anxiety and panic. Thoughts? Advice? Similar experiences?
Avatar m tn is celexa just for depression?? or does it also help with anxiety's?? is this one on the bottom of the list?? like zoloft,paxil,lexapro,prozac..this is in the same category as these others....please explain this??
Avatar f tn As I said Zoloft was a wonderful drug for me and worked great for my panic attacks and anxiety to where they were completely gone for years, and it may not work for you at all. You just need to try and see what happens that is the best you can do!!
Avatar m tn My Dr. just prescribe me Zoloft, I was taking Celexa for Anxiety and Depression but stop working. I started last week taking Zoloft every other day that way the transition from Celexa could be easier. On Wednesday, I stop Celexa and started taking only Zoloft. As anyone, experience loose of appetite, upset stomach and being tired? PD: Also, Im on Ativan .
225237 tn?1333138999 Yes my doc is a gp. I have an appt Tuesday with a therapist, I think getting into counceling will help me out too. And like u said they specialize more with this. I'm trying to get on the right path to get myself normal again. But I can't do it on my own! I like my gp doc but she doesn't like to give out narcotics, which to a point is good. Again thanks for replying it really helps having people to talk too.
3185406 tn?1345381829 I have been on many different SSRIs for 15 years now for anxiety. I was recently on Celexa, but switched to Zoloft 50mg last week because the Celexa was no longer working. I've been on Zoloft before and have had good results except for one thing, which leads me to my question: My throat feels like someone's hand is around it squeezing. It's very uncomfortable. In my research, this can be a sign of anxiety, but why doesn't it do it when I'm NOT on Zoloft?
Avatar f tn hello, im currently taking zoloft (serdep) 25mg for anxiety. However im experiencing alot of feelings of not being able to breathe properly (as though im not getting sufficient air flow). What would ur advice be in terms of medication? should i increase the dosage to 50mg or switch meds? i currently cannot afford a psychiatrist therefore asking for some form of help please. Is 25mg too little or what?
Avatar f tn t want to get addicted but the Zoloft has not kicked in and I am in a current breakdown and the Ativan helps yes I have a psychiatrist and therapist taking it day by day but celexa works really great for a few of my close family members so wondering if I should switch and very concerned about the Ativan gives me anxiety to take my anxiety medicine waiting for the Zoloft hoping as meds start to work I will not feel the need to take the Ativan but it literally scares me to death... ahh help...
17020225 tn?1455749597 So the jaw clenching hasn't stopped. I went back to the doctor after a month on celexa for a follow up. I told them about the clenching, and they seemed surprised. Said they haven't heard of that side effect before. Which is the same thing my pharmacist said. I thought it was odd because antidepressants are listed as a cause for bruxism. But any way they decided to have me try Zoloft now. So hopefully that'll work for the anxiety and stop the jaw clenching.
1131131 tn?1275108488 They had me stop the celexa. My doctor had me start Zoloft. I have been on it for six days and some of the same symptoms are starting again plus muscle tightness in the chest and throat. She told me to stop the zoloft. I asked if I should titrate it, but I was told to just stop it. She wants me to start seeing a Psychiatrist for my meds. I agree, but I am worried about any withdrawls I may have from stopping the med like that.
1128643 tn?1262483649 Finally, in 2003, I was in a study for treatment resistant depression and Lexapro quite literally saved my life. I was later switched to Celexa for financial reasons. I had no problems transitioning and have taken it for the past six years. Now the issue: I suffer from chronic pain as well, and apparently my pain mgmt doc believes Cymbalta (approved for fibromyalgia) may keep my depression in check while also helping me deal with pain & its own related depression.
Avatar n tn After having you describe the taper off method you used, before introducing the Celexa, I highly doubt it is Serotonin Syndrome. SS is actually much more rare than most people think. It is a danger, but rare indeed. In most cases Serotonin Syndrome is caused when people take VERY high dosages of two or more SSRI meds at the same time. Your Zoloft taper method is fine. You got down to 25Mgs a day and then started the Celexa. That's a safe way to do it.
Avatar f tn I have been anxious but the swith has me taking 50mg(half my daily dose) of zoloft with 20mg of Celexa. In 4 or 5 days I will be stopping the zoloft altogether. If need be, I will increase my dose of Celexa to 40mg in a few weeks . If none of that works I shall seek out another option. Thank you so much for your advice. I really need the communication, it comforts me. I truly appreciate it.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply. I took Zoloft for 3 years and it worked great for the anxiety but I cannot afford to pay for it. I also tried Effexor a few years back but the side effects were awful. My doctor will not prescribe me a benzo without taking a SSRI. I am going through a rough time right now and just want something to get through this. I have to try the Celexa though before she will give me a benzo because she said they are too addicting.
Avatar f tn I am a 30 year old female that has suffered from depression, anxiety, OCD, and ADHD since childhood. I have been on at least 7 different medications over the years that have and have not worked for various symptoms; however, I can't find one that works for them all. I have been taking 50 mg of Zoloft for about 3 years and it works great for my depression and the best thing I've ever taken for my OCD, but my anxiety is worse than it has ever been.
Avatar n tn Hello, I was inquiring about drinking alcohol with Celexa. I'm currently on 40 mg of celexa and have been on that for about 5 months now. I'm currently taking it for anxiety, and it has been working quite well. I was taking Zoloft for a couple years and it seemed to wear off. I had no problems with alcohol and Zoloft. I have a few questions regarding Celexa and alcohol consumption. 1. Is it safe to drink alcohol in moderation with Celexa?
