Celebrex long term

Common Questions and Answers about Celebrex long term

celebrex

Avatar f tn It is my opinion that each of us have to research the medications we take and make our own decisions based on that research and our comfort levels. Personally I would not take Celebrex long term but I take acetaminophen (tylenol) long term which can be just as risky. So it's an individual decision. Does it significantly help your pain? If it does that would certainly be a large part of my decision process. I hope my input has been a bit helpful for you.
Avatar n tn We discussed Celebrex in detail and the head of hepatobilliary department at Shands, who writes a lot of the research you see, said he has absolutely no problem with me taking Celebrex long term. I am a hepper with cirrhosis, I have a healthy heart and well controlled hypertension. I think as long as your mom doesn't have heart issues and she gets regular physian followups that she will benefit from Celebrex. I know I do.
Avatar f tn I was on Celebrex for 15 months (I was on treatment for 18). The problem with Celebrex is that long term use can be hard on the heart.
Avatar n tn thanx for the reply......i read the side effects and think i must be nuts to take this ****!!!! anyway....
370181 tn?1595629445 t know enough about the long term effects, so I told my rheumo I was done. My arthritis is now in every joint of my body with the exception of my elbows for some reason, but the bottom line is that I live in constant, very bad pain. My rheumo wants me to try Celebrex, but my cardiologist says no............too many cardiac risks AND GI bleed warnings. So much testing required during treatment. The anxiety while taking it would, in my opinion, far outweigh any benefits.
Avatar m tn I had lumbar spine fusion six weeks ago and am in PT. Still some pain so am taking 3 Ultracet tabs per 24 hours with pretty good pain relief except following 30 minutes on the treadmill and various muscle building exercises and stretches. To calm down those muscles following exercises and stretches I would like to take one 200mg Celebrex daily but one drug interaction cite suggests "Moderate" drug-drug issue involving CYP450 2D6, which means nothing to me.
Avatar m tn t want to get back to the norco because I am almost free from depression which I believe was caused by long term norco use. 10+ years with the depression starting 16 months ago. All suggestions are appreciated.
293157 tn?1285873439 Only you and your doctor will know if Celebrex is right for you. Long term use of Celebrex is no different than any other NSAID. If you are a candidate for it and it "actually works better than other NSAIDS" then you're one of us who are very lucky to be able to use this drug.
Avatar dr m tn I believe a person should not be on Celebrex very long term due to the side effects. SAMe may be something you want to look into. Some studies show that patients showed similar to greater pain relief after 60 days of SAMe when compared to Celebrex. I'm starting that transition now. Also take Omega3's (in pretty high doses) and trying to really get after the CORE work as most physicians will tell you that has a tremendous effect on all types of low back pain. I do wish you well.
Avatar m tn Some seem to be cured while others have to stay on the drug. There are side effects of long term treatment with Celebrex as well. But the doctor in the article thinks that in some people it is genetic to produce the Cox-2 enzyme and those that do will get cancer or tumors while those that don't their immune systems will clear the virus. This is very interesting and thank so much for sending it.
Avatar m tn For me, a little Xanax has helped my breathing in high anxiety situations but if you have ongoing anxiety related breathing problems you will probably want something that is more long term. Your psych will help you with that as everyone reacts differently to meds! Let us know how it goes!
Avatar f tn And over time, NSAIDs increase blood pressure so that is a long term side effect that should be considered. If you are going to start a powerful NSAID like Celebrex, I would recommend that you purchase a home blood pressure monitoring kit to periodically check your bp while on this medication. There are also some injectable meds out there that your doctor can inject directly into your knees and feet and they are also non-narcotic.
Avatar f tn I think your doctor is wrong about the Xanax. You can become addicted to it very quickly. A few days of regular dosing will do it. You would have been better of off using it irregularly and taking it only when specifically needed. I am subject to panic attacks as a result of an adrenal problem. I was told to take .25 mg. to abort an attack and, if that were insufficient, to take another .25 mg. It worked fine.
548642 tn?1266179652 my gi didnt even know the dose to celebrex so i doubt he knows if its good to my liver! im telling yall hes stupid and i need to find a new dr asap!
Avatar m tn Has anyone used Celebrex for their Crohn's? I have severe joint point pain and I have been told that Celebrex is a huge help for this. I am wondering about side effects and medicine interactions.
Avatar m tn He was on Celebrex for a short period but doctor took him off (as its not great long term) to see how he feels. Any other tips, thoughts or helpful ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

1155483 tn?1262432647 Have heard that...thinkin there can be liver complications long term...most of the time they give a shot of toradol during an acute pain attack...can u talk to another dr and get a second opinion? also talk to ur pharmacist about it...good to read what we take cos being in the medical profession..i do see a few drs who do not always make alot of sense/nor read up on what they RX...only what the drug rep tells them..
Avatar f tn Stenosis and scoliosis in lumber spine and osteoarthritis in both hands. Apart from the intermittent leg/bone pain I still suffer from in the long bones (which leaves the muscles tired and painful and as if they are contracting), I had excrutiating finger pains for the first part of this year. I have been on celebrex and had cortizone injections, but still continue to suffer, especially with the bone pain.
Avatar n tn My two daughters take Celebrex as a person would take Advil here or there and do fine with it .. they both cannot take ibuprofen. My son cannot take it since birth as he gets bad reflux from in .. They make custom made ibuprofen suppositories if you really need a NSAID but cannot do it by mouth and they are wonderful .. you need a compounding pharmacy but my co pay was only $8.00!
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. I'm a 42 year old male and I've been relatively healthy, but it seems as soon as I hit 40 things started going downhill. I developed Achilles tendonitis in my left leg, which after all kinds of physio therapy and stretches has still not been resolved 2 years later. I am now developing the same issue in my right leg, and also tennis elbow in my left elbow.
482543 tn?1248355421 I have an appointment with HR today to find out about Short term Disability and Long Term Disability. What is Relafen? A couple of weeks ago he gave me Toradol but all that did was knock me out for about 3 hours or so and then I was wide awake with the pain still.
1207048 tn?1282174304 I started on Celebrex on Sunday. I take it every afternoon at the same time. I have not noticed any difference. I had read that it should only take "a few days" for it to start working. I'm not sure how long I should give it? Admittedly, I was not happy to be starting it in the first place, so my gut reaction is to only give it a week, and stop it if it doesn't seem to be working. The thing that seems to be working the most is my nighttime dose of gabapentin.
Avatar m tn It's not normal to gain that much weight in so short a time, even if you're gorging yourself on food. My first recommendation is make a visit to your primary care physician to run some simple blood tests to make sure your thyroid is functioning properly of if you may have developed hypothyroidism, which is an under active thyroid. Hypothyroidism is the main cause of sudden, excessive weight gain.
Avatar m tn I have been on methotrexate and celebrex for at least 15 years, probably long. I am currently in a tremendous amount of pain in my fingers, elbows, shoulders, left knee and left hip. Volteran gel has not helped at all and neither has Aleve. Can I take tramadol with these two drugs? I have recently switched my insurance and am waiting to get into a new rheumatologist.
