Avatar n tn Vomiting, diarrhea, diuretics, and excessive perspiration are all causes of a severe potassium loss. There are others, but these are the main culprits. Just put in "causes of hypokalemia" in your search engine and you will see all the causes. Some medications may cause you to be hypokalemic. Check the sheets that come with your meds to see if any of them cause loss of potassium. Take Care!
Avatar n tn ve scratched my throat or something when I was trying to puke because the next time I tried to throw up a lot of blood came out. It wasn't thin at all. It was very thick and chunky. I kept drinking water and throwing up the blood but it feels like there's something stuck in my throat. It hurts my throat to even swallow food. Maybe I popped a blood vessel or scratched myself but I really don't know and I'm worried. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do?

I did not find it to be be very effective.

Avatar n tn ve also not heard of long-term vomiting from Amiodorone (maybe someone else on the form has.) What other medications is she taking right now? What does her cardiologist or primary care physician say about this vomiting? I think she needs to have some tests to figure out what is causing this and what to do to remedy the problem. They may want her to see a gastroenterologist/digestive specialist for an evaluation.

Avatar f tn It sounds abnormal to me, too. i am not a doctor, but I am a mom. There can be a number of causes. Just because blood tests don't show anything doesn't mean she's fine. Perhaps you could ask your daughter's doctor for a referral to a pediatric gastroenterologist.
Avatar f tn There are possible causes of nausea and vomiting such as acute gastritis, central causes (signals from the brain), association with other illnesses, medications and medical treatments and possibly mechanical obstruction of the bowel. Avatar m tn The body basically shivers and has chills when the fever is rising, especially rapidly and sweats when the fever is dropping, or breaking, as some say. The cause of the fever is quite an intricate process. Our blood and lymphatic systems produce white blood cells which are what fight off infection.
