Common Questions and Answers about Causes of swollen eyelid treatment

swollen

Avatar n tn the most common thing that causes this is a stye which is an infected eye gland. Home treatment is limited to warm compresses. You can visit an ophthalmologist, optometrist or your family physician for a specific diagnosis and antibiotic eye drops.
Avatar f tn I often wake up with a large, swollen eyelid. This has happened for over a month now. It alternates between both the left and right eye, top or bottom eyelid, and sometimes even both. There is no pain, and the swelling is normally reduced after using a cold compress... I have not noticed any patterns as to when the swelling occurs, and went weeks without makeup to see if that would help (if it was an allergic reaction.) Nothing seems to be effective, what could be the problem?
Avatar f tn I popped part of the pimple on my eyelid and it has lessen on the swollen part, but there is another pimple like bump on my eyelid. I'm hoping to be able to pop it also due to the pain of it. Is this healthy or right way to treat it?
Avatar n tn My husband developed a large bump on the middle part of his left eyelid about five months ago. There is no fluid associated with it, it's just a bump. It is painful and becoming more so. Any idea what this could be?
Avatar f tn If your eyelid problem is due to inflammation or infection you will need to see an ophthalmologist for treatment. If it is due to the effects of age then you will need to see a plastic surgeon or oculoplastic surgeon.
Avatar n tn Is the surgery going to cure the other symptoms as well such as irritation and the swollen that comes and goes ( my right eye lower eyelid is red and has been that way for almost a month ) and what i am confused about is since the pressure comes from behind the eye what causes the eyelid irritation and swollen or does that require a different treatment to cure that problems , thank you again for your help
Avatar f tn I have had a very swollen left eyelid for about a month now that droops very heavy and also swelling on my lower kid as well. I was diagnosed about two weeks ago and have been on Pred Forte drops since. How long does it usually take for them to work? Also, how often is it that the eyelid stays swollen?? I am worried it won’t go back to normal since it’s been so long.
Avatar f tn im 15 years old and my eyelid has been hurting alot on monday and tuesday when i woke up, i found out that my eyelid was slightly swollen and i checked to see inside my eyelid and saw a little pimple. I went to the doctor and she said it was a stye. she gave me ciloxan to put in my eye. i tried that twice last night and did the warm compresses. i woke up this morning, wed morning and found my eye to be more swollen and the pimple is still there.
Avatar m tn Last year (Summer, to be specific and continuing throughout a good part of the year) it was my right eyelid as well. I went to the doctor several times. They gave me ointments to put on it. I was told something about clogged ducts which cause what I have. They also informed me of a thing called High Fructose Corn Syrup, which I'll get to in my next paragraph.
Avatar n tn The swollen, fluid filled follicles cause increased friction beneath the eyelid. Increased friction causes the eye to become even more inflamed, irritated, swollen and uncomfortable. The condition is commonly found in younger dogs, and can sometimes be self limiting (can resolve spontaneously). For diagnosis, a cytological exam of the discharge of the eye shows increased lymphocytes and plasma-cells, which are cells associated with allergy.
Avatar n tn After having contacts for a year my left eye got an infection and I noticed my left eyelid was swollen. I was given antibiotic drops and I think I was on them for about a month and it made my swollen eyelid and the infection go away and I was back on contacts again.
Avatar n tn You could have an allergic reaction of the skin around the eyes, or some type of skin infection or some other type of skin inflammation disorder. You need to see an ophthalmologist for the eyelid problem and probably a dermatologist as well. Sorry, but I can't make any specific treatment recommendations without seeing you.
Avatar m tn It could be they always were like that but the swelling of your eyelid makes it look different or causes the brow to move into a slightly different position. Next time you are able to, try getting a lot of sleep over a few days and not drinking for that time and see if you get some results. If not, perhaps it's an allergy or something else causing the swelling. good luck!
Avatar f tn Is there any treatment to stop loss of eyelashes and eyelid inflammation.. This has been going on for about 7 years and my eyelashes are shorter, thinner and growing the wrong direction now because my eyelids are so swollen.. I've gone to skin doctor's, eye doctors and they just say it is due to allergies or allopecia.... Most women want to have eyelashes, me included....
Avatar f tn s worst, the back of my neck is stiff, and my red swollen eyelid turns into a nasty headache, sometimes with nuralga(sp?) on right side of skull, and my jaw aches.I've also noticed my right pupil is slightly larger than left one.My right eyelid tends to droop when I'm tired. My father had iritis. Can anyone help?
Avatar n tn HI, Each morning I wake up and my eyes appear identical. Within an hour, more and more of the left eyelid is showing and it stays this way all day. Not sure if it's swollen or ptosis. Looking back at pictures, it has been this way for about 5 years but now is starting to bother me. I've had a CT on sinuses and tests for thyroid issues. Next step is an MRI. Any idea what causes this? I am so self conscious and embarrassed by this.
Avatar n tn twice with a swollen right eye, it swells just above the eyebrow, eyelid and the corner of my eye. They gave me a steriod shot and 10 days of steriod pills. I started taking benedryl when it happens and it helps bring it back down slowly til it goes away. Now right under my chin swells to when this happens and I get a knot feeling in my throat. I am at a lose, where do I go next to find out what is wrong?
Avatar m tn by DCR do you mean dacryocystorhinostomy? If so if the lids are swollen then that might be the problem. The swelling should abate soon.
Avatar n tn So almost 2 weeks ago now, I woke up with my right upper eyelid (only) so swollen that my eyebrow looked like I just had an overdone face lift on one side of my face. I tried putting cold compress on it, no change, as the day progressed swelling decreased, but not completely. Next day same thing, took some Actifed and rested for a few hours. This seemed to make the swelling go down quite a bit.
Avatar n tn But, when we woke up this morning her eye was swollen half way shut and it was causing her a lot of discomfort. Is there anything we can do to make the swelling go down? or anything she should take? She is icing it now. Please let me know ASAP Thanks!
Avatar f tn If it's neurological there shouldn't be any actual swelling of the eyelid involved, hmmm if the eyelid is swollen then it 'could' make the eyelid just look like it's drooping down, have you seen your GP about it yet? As aspen mentioned it could be an infection or even a reaction bug bite on the eyelid, if it's been a few days and it's still swollen it'd be worth getting your GP to check it out. Hope that helps....
Avatar f tn Last night my right eyelid started to swell slightly, and today my eyelid is still swollen, and is drooping considerably. There is no pain, and my vision is fine... just a feeling of heaviness. The pupil seems a little less dilated than the other, but it does dilate and contract according to light conditions. No headaches, however, the right side of my neck has been sore and sensitive, with the occasional feeling of a sore throat. (I, ummmm, also did some screaming during my episode.
Avatar f tn Today I woke up with a slight pain on my eyelid and noticed it was red and swollen, this has never happened before, please help!
Avatar f tn I have dry eyes in both of my eyes. However, I feel pain coming from top eyelid of my right eye when I gently touch it, and feel pain when I blink. The pain is in one spot of the top eyelid. The pain spot it the to right hand corner of the right eye (corner away from the nose). Keep in mind that the pain is in one single spot of top eyelid. Meaning, if I gently touch any other part of top eyelid of the right eye, I DO NOT feel any pain.
Avatar m tn I suspect you will welcome your 18th birthday with a swollen eyelid. The most common cause of this is an eyelid gland infection most often a "stye" your treatment would consist of warm, moist compresses and seeing either your family MD or an ophthalmologist for a proper diagnosis and topical antibiotic eye drops.
Avatar m tn My girlfriend woke up yesterday with her left upper eye lid slightly swollen, now this morning she woke up and it has gotten worse, she does not have any allergies. Does anyone know why this might be.
