11924850 tn?1601364171 I noticed her bathing herself yesterday and she twisted around trying to reach that spot , doing the biting thingie so I checked her out as best I could, felt the scabs and got her comb and gently helped her with the itching. I got a lot of fur and there was a fair amount of dandruff. Later last night I had my spouse check her because she has special privileges with the Sook that I don't have. That's how we know the healing isn't finished.

Avatar m tn Hello, The yellow waxy crusts on the scalp are due to dandruff and it can cause seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp and face. Use over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist.Hope it helps. Hope it helps.Kind regards.
Avatar n tn He can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). 675347 tn?1365460645 I should have memtioned that what you are seeing might not even BE dandruff, it might be dander. Dander is entirely different from dandruff, and is the result of the dog's saliva drying on their skin and fur after they lick themselves. In many cases of allergies to pets, it isn't the hair that the person is allergic to at all, it's the dander.
Avatar n tn If there are fine specks of black then it may be fleas. I use Reveloution on my cats as it works for fleas, ticks and other parasites like worms. The weight loss is also a cause for concern. I would change vets if at all possible because a cat with missing fur patches and losing weight has SOMETHING going on. Hope you figure it out...

Avatar m tn Three weeks ago I accidentally stepped on her tail and burst the cyst. (ugh - I felt terrible) A small amount of watery liquid came out, mostly clear, but with a trace of old blood, coffee colored. For the next two weeks I treated the area like a wound, applied a warm compress to soften the scab, and gently pressed out any fluid that had accumulated. The fluid remained the same, no ***** looking stuff came out at any time. Now the area appears to have healed completely.

53833 tn?1234996629 Very skinny and has fur missing on rear quarters, part of the sides of her torso and at the base of her tail (rest of tail is fine). I have 2 other cats and did not bring her into my house last night - left her in our comfy garden with a gazebo, fish pond with food and water. Still there this morning so thinking of keeping her. Taking her to vet on Saturday but was wondering if anyone had any idea what causes the fur loss - thinking either malnutrition or mites, etc.
1786778 tn?1314987818 I have a 1 year old black domestic short hair, recently she has been pulling her fur out from 1 spot on her back. We have checked for fleas and bug bites, and dry skin but there seems to be nothing. She also pulls fur out of the other cat we have....but I think that's because she is trying to get the snarls out of his fur. I would just like to know if anyone else has experienced this before.
485351 tn?1208647497 My cat is just about a year old and she is experiencing a sudden increase in appetite, dandruff in her rump area, and a sudden loss of fur. The loss of fur is not in clumps, she just seems to be shedding a whole lot lately. She has been more inactive than usual too, almost depressed. We have not found any flea droppings or presence of worms in her stool. I've noticed lately that she can't seem to jump as high as she used to, and gives up playing earlier than before.
Avatar m tn Honestly i do not know when it started but i am always using my finger to rub on my scalp looking for something to scratch off , i have a serious problem with dandruff it comes and goes and sometimes grow over night. Avatar m tn That's good to know about flax oil- I believe I saw it recommended to put on the coats of dogs on an old Lassie movie, but wasn't positive about cats. I think if I tried it on my kitty, she would likely lick it off her right away if I didn't make sure I watched her for long enough that it absorbed and did some good. I've been doing the flaxseed meal on Catalina's breakfast food and Cattie's coat is quite nice for winter!
1388618 tn?1288214350 Spirit...this is called Feline Hyperesthesia (FHS.) I have an article from my morning paper on it. Says there are three catagories of causes...behavioral, dermatologic, and neurologic (really narrows it down, doesn't it.) You're right in the fact that stress, from the cat's point of view, is the suspect. Says the most common cause of FHS is obesity and flea infestation. Overweight cats are unable to groom and scratch themselves along the top of their back and near their tail.

1516332 tn?1360765586 Well, my mom bought me some Sea Breeze and Sulfur 8 for my scalp, and some AMBI for the dark spots on my skin from acne. So far, my hair looks healthier, and there is less of a dandruff problem. Thank you for the advice!

1546922 tn?1293691153 I remembered when I had moved to Thailand and the hard water and all the chemicals irritated my scalp, I would use this on and off and it was good for dandrum and dermatitis etc, and quite drying of the scalp, so thought I'd give it a go and by following instructions to a tee on the bottle, my hair is TOTALLY back to normal. No more weird waxy oily crown, straight after stepping out of the shower. I washed my hair three times this morning without it, and still oily.

377493 tn?1356502149 ve been doing exactly what Boo Bunny suggested as far as scratching Jades back and tail with my nails. I also use a flea comb on her back, base of tail and tail. I will even brush her fur backwards and to the side. Thankfully, she lets me. It's made an enormous difference. I do this every single day and her condition has now disappeared completely!
Avatar f tn As the owner of the cat, you and the vet would make the decision to put your cat to sleep. Sixteen years is older for a cat, but not that old and if she is eating and drinking fine, she's basically healthy except for her eye which you says is red. There are such things as antibiotic eye drops but these must be prescribed by a vet and to do this, the vet needs to examine your cat's eyes. Your vet can't just put your cat to sleep without your agreement.

Avatar n tn The next mornig he was walking like a drunk person trying to walk a straight line and his tail was sticking straight out behind him but all his fur on his tail was like a Toilet brush ? Is it possible for a Cat to have an extream re-action to this tablet? I have used many other types in his life but never has he done this. He is good now and this lasted for 2 days and that Drontal was the only thing that he had that was different and he is an inside cat only.
