Common Questions and Answers about Cats sneezing with mucus

sneeze

Avatar f tn I work with our local humane shelter and we have two cats sneezing with a lot of yellow mucus. One has had it for several months and has gone through several antibiotics from several different vets and steroids as well. Nothing is working. Beautiful, pleasant cats but unable to adopt them out due to this problem.
Avatar f tn Just checking in to see if there is any news? I'll also weigh in with my 2 cents that nosebleeds aren't common in cats in my experience with them. Good luck with her!
Avatar f tn Honestly, I have not heard of infections causing sneezing that are contagious, other than a virus or a bacteria, and that condition usually comes with coughing, fever etc. Your cat does not have a cold. It could also be, like April said, cleaning products or......sometimes the litter. Have you tried a different litter? You did mention your cleaning the house a lot. That might have done it right there.
Avatar n tn He started sneezing excessively . These sneezes are also followed up with what seems to be an excess of saliva/mucous. He always seems startled when this happens and runs around trying to get it out! @ weeks ago I came home and noticed blood on his nose (which is from what I assume him to be scratching it...maybe it was bothering him?
3170462 tn?1344717552 Three years ago, my husband and I adopted two cats. They're brothers, Alvin and Simon, and were a year old when we got them. Before they came to our home, they lived with a friend who runs a Second Chance operation from her home. She found them as kittens (mum was killed by a possum) and weaned them. Both cats were well treated. When we first took them, our friend mentioned that Alvin had started sneezing. We didn't think anything of it. Cats sneeze.
306594 tn?1443387857 ve wiped his nose several times and he is also sneezing and keeps swallowing the mucus. I just wish he could blow his nose the way humans do - I feel so sorry for him. Anyway it comes and goes and I don't know what it could be, has anyone else had this problem?, this is the first year he's ever had it so I'm wondering maybe his age has something to do with it. thanks.
Avatar f tn I am going through that with my own cats, sneezing being the only symptom. Clavamox works well at killing the bacteria that causes this type of URI. You don’t even have to take them to the vet unless of course you want to or there are cats dying or unable to eat, drink etc.. If you get enough clavamox, and with a dropper give it to them twice a day. There are other antibiotics out there. Some work well in one cat but it may not be beneficial to the other.
11389935 tn?1417796609 Hello KittyCatLover23, I don't think it works like that. As far as I know cats cannot catch a cold from a person. Cats can sneeze from dust too. When you older cat was sick did you take him or her to the vet and what did the cat have ? Just wondering. I wish you and your two kitties well.
461993 tn?1245693352 Sneezing is very common with wd. You will sneeze for awhile. It starts to slow up after a month or so............
611067 tn?1458591483 My mother's cat, Roxy, sneezes a lot! She's done it the whole time we've had her (a little over 4 years). But, lately, she will sneeze and sneeze like 5 times in a row. The poor little girl! We tease and say "she's allergic to cats!" But, seriously, is their medication for cats with allergies?
Avatar m tn I don't think yr kitty can wait any longer for a Vet visit, or at least while there with the male cat ask yr Vet to presciribe an antibiotic for the queen, sounds very much like an upper respiratory infection (UTI) if left unchecked it could become fatal, it can also spread to the little kittens This was likely brought on by the stress of birthing and the surgery combined. Tell me why ur waiting until later to give her the better canned food diet?
Avatar n tn the best 2 supplements for this are L-lysine and Lactoferrin. if you reply I will give you the best brands to buy for use with cats(thse are human supplements). and to help wiht the sneezing stinging nettles is excellent, again a human supplement. I will send you the safest brand names for cats. do you have a good vitamin supply store nearby? and if I copy out all the brand names are yu willing to purchase these? to help with his watery eyes...
Avatar f tn This was never happend to me before, when I sneezed a mucus with blood and when I search it in google, others said that if you sneezed a mucus with blood, you must stop blowing your nose. Is it true?
518117 tn?1429276273 And I love her dearly like I did my Hiss. I want to help Paradise with this sneezing. And I know my friends here on the cat forum, just may have some good suggestions for me. Thank God for this forum, those that devote such time and caring into this forum and God love all the little kitties on here that are having problems. When God made cats, he sure knew what he was doing didn't he? Such special little furry friends. Thank you.
Avatar m tn especially any sugar, sugar is really bad for cats. a tiny bit of Oliver Oil or plain Yogurt is ok. cats do not necessarily have a bowel movement every single day...I think you just need to stop the products and keep an eye on her for a few days, I really do not believe she is constipated...
Avatar f tn I am 9 week pregnant and I am also allergic to my indoor cats. I am also scare about getting toxo from my cats.
Avatar m tn Ask your vet if it's possible that your cat has an allergy instead of a respiratory infection. Sometimes vets assume with sneezing and congestions, and just prescribe the antibiotics. I don't know what kind of tests your vet did, but we have a cat that had exactly the same symptoms you are describing and it turned out to be an allergy. So, it's worth asking about. As to OTC, there is nothing that will clear up a respiratory infection, if that's what it is.
Avatar f tn in a person clear mucus means that the nose is just running naturally. she's not sneezing like crazy is she? warm not hot tea bags help with congestion, so does a roman bath. lock kitty in the bathroom and run the shower on steamy hot. give kitty a good steam to relieve the sinuses. that actually saved my small cat when she was severely congested. way to go with the kitten milk! my best advice would be just calling the vet. they are very helpful when you call.
7667275 tn?1393196119 The vet also gave me some drops for his eyes in case he needed them and he developed sneezing although the other cats in the house were sneezing and seemed to have colds and the kitten was put on antibiotics and I noticed that he is still sneezing. He is 6 months old now and I am trying to prevent him from developing FIP. He has been fed life abundance food and takes NuVet Plus as recommended by the breeder.

Avatar f tn And you would know the difference between hearing a cough or sneeze, as a cough sounds loud and scary like a seal barking. If kitty is coughing along with the sneezing and the eye issues, that is a very bad sign, and he really should be seen. Talk to your Vet about starting kitty on Lysine, an Amino Acid that will help build up kitty's immune system against the herpes and future URI's. Best of luck with this, and please keep us posted...
1232362 tn?1333135406 ok-hopefully he doesn't get pneumonia!! Also; along those precautionary lines that you mentioned, pregnant ladies shouldn't change litter pans. Not relevant to this topic-just a general knowledge comment.
Avatar m tn Hi Noodle, Please do not let this get you upset. These things happen in cats all the time. Most cats are born with the Herpes virus (which causes cat colds), so getting these colds is sometimes just a matter of time. If this is indeed what your new kitten has then the Vet will explain the cycle to you, If your other cat is sniffling now also and the new cat is diagnosed with an URI then your other cat already has this respiratory complex, so I hope you will be keeping your New little one.
Avatar n tn i'm getting cold with severe headache once in two months.the headache will last for 4or 5 days. while i'm spitting out the mucus some blood coming out with the mucus. the same happens while sneezing my nose.what is the reason for this? do i need any medical checkup?
Avatar f tn My cats have been sneezing frequently as well, but only since the season changed and I thought it might be due to dryer air in the house. I keep my humidifier running full blast in my bedroom and noticed all 3 of them sleep w/me since I started doing this. Spirit normally sleeps w/ m.
