Cats sneezing with mucus

Common Questions and Answers about Cats sneezing with mucus

Avatar f tn I work with our local humane shelter and we have two cats sneezing with a lot of yellow mucus. One has had it for several months and has gone through several antibiotics from several different vets and steroids as well. Nothing is working. Beautiful, pleasant cats but unable to adopt them out due to this problem.
Avatar n tn I have found good success when giving it to chronic sneezers and cats with discharges. It takes 1-2 weeks to see results and you usually have to give it at least a couple of months. Some cats need to stay on it for a long time. There are some formulations made for cats that are not too difficult to get into them. You should bring her in to your veterinarian for a check-up. Your cat should be examined at least once a year although I now recommend every six months.
Avatar f tn Honestly, I have not heard of infections causing sneezing that are contagious, other than a virus or a bacteria, and that condition usually comes with coughing, fever etc. Your cat does not have a cold. It could also be, like April said, cleaning products or......sometimes the litter. Have you tried a different litter? You did mention your cleaning the house a lot. That might have done it right there.

Avatar m tn Ask your vet if it's possible that your cat has an allergy instead of a respiratory infection. Sometimes vets assume with sneezing and congestions, and just prescribe the antibiotics. I don't know what kind of tests your vet did, but we have a cat that had exactly the same symptoms you are describing and it turned out to be an allergy. So, it's worth asking about. As to OTC, there is nothing that will clear up a respiratory infection, if that's what it is.
Avatar n tn The sneezing I can live with---it's 10 hours a day with a running nose that's a killer. I'm starting a nasal spray called Omnaris and hoping it helps. It's truly a debilitating condition and I commiserate with the others who've written.
Avatar m tn I don't think yr kitty can wait any longer for a Vet visit, or at least while there with the male cat ask yr Vet to presciribe an antibiotic for the queen, sounds very much like an upper respiratory infection (UTI) if left unchecked it could become fatal, it can also spread to the little kittens This was likely brought on by the stress of birthing and the surgery combined. Tell me why ur waiting until later to give her the better canned food diet?
Avatar f tn About 6 months ago my six-year-old started sneezing about 20 times each morning. He spent half of his days with a babysitter with a house full of cats back then. After he stopped going there, the morning-sneeze-session at our house was gone but he is now allergic to cats in general. Even if your little girl has no allergies, I would try to keep your dog`s area somewhat separate from her sleeping area in case you currently don`t.
Avatar f tn I have had swollen sinuses with no mucus for over a year now and I get terrible head acks. Last winter my Doctor sent me to see an allergist which said I was allergic to my cats. After tenyears of living with my lovely little friends I got rid of them because I couldn't take it anymore. Now, it's been 6 months since I gave them away and my symptoms are still as strong! I'm desperate, this is affecting my everyday life. I've gotten blood shots and a brain scan which showed nothing.
Avatar f tn Just checking in to see if there is any news? I'll also weigh in with my 2 cents that nosebleeds aren't common in cats in my experience with them. Good luck with her!
Avatar n tn He started sneezing excessively . These sneezes are also followed up with what seems to be an excess of saliva/mucous. He always seems startled when this happens and runs around trying to get it out! @ weeks ago I came home and noticed blood on his nose (which is from what I assume him to be scratching it...maybe it was bothering him?
306594 tn?1443391457 Hi - My old cat has had his yearly flu vac but lately every couple of days he has a runny nose and I know it is bothering him because he keeps sniffling and can't get to sleep (when a cat can't sleep you know there's something wrong, lol) I've wiped his nose several times and he is also sneezing and keeps swallowing the mucus. I just wish he could blow his nose the way humans do - I feel so sorry for him.
Avatar m tn I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
Avatar n tn It gets caught between the nose and throat and hacking and snorting will finally bring up a chunk of hard mucus, sometimes with a bit of blood...whether through the mouth or nose is hard to tell. This happens consistently. I have coughed up 3 today alone, and it's only 9:30 a.m. It's disgusting. The snorting is embarrassing. The ear pressure and headaches and sore nose are highly irritating and draining. I chew gum, blow, everything to relieve the pressure.
Avatar m tn They Are my fathers cats and i unfortunately have to live with my father. I get the sneezing the coughing up mucus clogged nasel sinuses and everything its miserable and when the cats are right next to me my lungs even start to lock up. But what i was wondering is lately ive been having heart palpitations and tachycardia. Hypathetically could a very severe cat allergy cause these things.
Avatar n tn a high-pitched whistling sound produced during breathing out -Rapid breathing with a rate of over 40 breaths/minute -Tight breathing(your child has to push the air out) -Coughing, often with very sticky mucus -Onset of lung symptoms often preceded by fever and a runny nose -An average of 6 months, always less than 2 years -Symptoms similar to asthma Cause The wheezing is caused by a narrowing of the smallest airways in the lung (bronchioles).
Avatar n tn and i am really don't have that condition but was given prednesone, 5x in increasing doses back to back and sent home from ER w/nebulizer (all one year before discovery of hep c and subsequent tx. during this episode when i blew my nose these hard red pellets came out with all the other mucus, i had never experienced anything like it. it was after the crisis and with further tests that i was told that i don't have asthma after all, perhaps its gerd.

464626 tn?1206796885 My 4 week old daughter has had cold like symptoms(sneezing, coughing, congestion, runny nose, and alot of mucus and respiratory congestion) for about 3 weeks. We have been to the doctor multiple times with concerns ,every time resulting in the same answer, that its a cold and will pass. There is no infection and we have done RSV tests and oxygen levels that all come back normal. We are very confused and concerned.
1232362 tn?1333139006 Our older Spirit (about 12ish, spayed) has been sneezing clear mucus, has bright clear eyes, good appetite, normal behavior (wants to play and does her pm yodeling and such) but this has lasted a good week now. She seems completely fine except for the sneezing and snotting. Could it just be some sort of allergies? We're using the same litter, same food, same same same.
Avatar f tn in a person clear mucus means that the nose is just running naturally. she's not sneezing like crazy is she? warm not hot tea bags help with congestion, so does a roman bath. lock kitty in the bathroom and run the shower on steamy hot. give kitty a good steam to relieve the sinuses. that actually saved my small cat when she was severely congested. way to go with the kitten milk! my best advice would be just calling the vet. they are very helpful when you call.
Avatar f tn She stopped for a few hours and puked again, stopped for another few hours and has puked twice again. Still foamy and mucus-y. Almost seems like tiny bits of blood or food in in too. Not a lot though , a bit here or there. Her normally timed bowel movement in the morning was normal on the first half and slimy and mucus-y on the back end. No food for the day so no bowel movements for the rest of the day. Her nose is still cold and damp-ish.
Avatar n tn My adopted 14.8yrs Persian had been on deaths door with this. Finally he was given a scan to look at the nose throat etc. Sacha had a mass of nodules spread on the lining of his nose, which the vet could not take a sample as he thought he'd haemorrhage. He flushed his sinus's out but could not clear all the mucous, but a sample of the mucous was sent for tests & all were negative. A referral hospital said there was nothing else they could do.
Avatar f tn Since the begining of this year i've woken up everyday with a runny nose, sneezing, runny/watery eyes and flem that i have to spit out constantly. It's gotten gradually worse, i now get ear problems, constant fullness, ringing, dizzyness, pain all around my ears, blocked Estauchian Tubes and pressure in my face, around my eyes, ears and head that makes my head hurt all over, like a pressure type feeling in the back and on the top, it's annoying!
Avatar f tn All the research I've done is getting me nowhere. She hasn't been sneezing, no vomiting or diarrhea, and no mucus or really anything I can use to point me in one direction or another. It's just her heavy breathing and general lack of energy...Anyone gone through this before?
Avatar m tn While most all of the symptoms went away in a few days the wheezing has remained and now it is mid March. I do live in a house with 4 cats that I am allergic to. If i sit in a room where they lay I will begin sneezing and getting watery eyes very shortly after. They are not allowed in my bedroom but I am wondering if being in the same house breathing in their dander in winter months when doors and windows are closed may be causing the constant wheeze.
Avatar m tn He does seem to be breathing harder than normal, though it does not appear as if he is struggling or gasping for air. The other cats are fine, and not acting any different. His symptoms came on extremely fast. Any suggestions?
1761287 tn?1313828387 another possible problem that needs to be checked out that I thought of after my reply is heart disease..cats will often have asthma type symptoms with that too.. as far as the bronchial herb, one thing that stands out is its distilled with alcohol and alcohol isn't safe for cats, there are many herbs in that formula, I couldn't find much info on whether they were all safe for cats...
Avatar n tn ENT says these symptoms can be from allergies but honestly I don't believe her (no sneezing, mucus, stuffiness or anything like that) AND I have 3 cats and I'm apparently allergic to them, yet I've had these guys for years with no problems. I should also mention that on a MRI & CT Sinus scan, a polyp was found in my spheniod sinus.
