Common Questions and Answers about Cat sneezing blood veterinarian

sneeze

Avatar f tn I found a stray kitten and I have noticed he is very playful eats and drinks normally but he seems to be sneezing quite often, watery eyes and nose (the water is not green or anything its just clear) can I go to a petstore and get him something for the sneezing,is that a cold?
Avatar n tn s nose so it may be causing the problem or it may just be there and not be the true cause. It was a good course of action for your veterinarian to place your cat on Doxycycline. Since there are still symptoms, it may be persistent Mycoplasma or there could be contributing bacteria or viruses. Herpes virus is very common in cats and a cat at a shelter has a very good chance of having been exposed to it. Even though the PCR was negative for Herpes, I don't know that I would rule it out.
Avatar n tn This is NOT normal at all, I would probably be freaking out!! You didn't say how much. If it was a lot of blood, I'd be going to the emergency vet. If it was a small amount, that's not As urgent. Whether it is small, or a large amount of blood the cat needs to go to the vet. I've had cats my entire life-35 yrs, and I have never ever seen that before. I seriously would freak if I saw my cat w/ a nosebleed.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing alot lately. I am on dialysis and not working right now and cant afford to take her to the vet. I bought some L Lysine for her and have been giving it to her in her food. Will this help her get better without taking her to the vet?
658901 tn?1403814634 Are you seeing any blood in the diarrhea? If you are, please take your cat to the veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam and possibly xrays. If you are not seeing any blood, you can try to prepare a bland diet for your cat using white rice and chicken. Try to not give him any food for about 12 hours, only water, and then give him some small amounts of cooked white rice and boiled chicken. It is important that he only take a small amount (a couple of spoon fulls at most).
Avatar m tn Vaccination of a particular cat is something that should be discussed and decided on between a cat owner and their veterinarian. It is my understanding that the URI (herpes and calicivirus) vaccine does not completely prevent the cat from getting the virus but it usually greatly reduces the severity of the symptoms. These two viruses are very contagious stable viruses that are very widespread among cat. Most cats are exposed when they are young and have developed some immunity to them.
372900 tn?1315512302 DH and I adopted a cat last summer. When we first got her she was lovable and would lay with us. At her vet appointment (a week later) we were told she needed 3 kinds of antibiotics for the week. One went in her eyes, one went in her ears and the last was an oral medication. We had to "kitty burrito" her just to get her to take the meds. Needless to say she was not happy. After that she has been really skittish.
Avatar f tn It sounds to me like you need a second opinion. I don't understand why a veterinarian would not recommend blood work on an older cat. I will frequently diagnose kidney disease in older cats with constipation problems. He should be able to give you advice on adjusting your cat's medication or trying a different medication. www.catvets.org can help you find a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners and www.aahanet.
Avatar f tn If your veterinarian has not run a general blood and urine test on your cat, I would strongly recommend that you ask for a panel. You want to be sure that there are no underlying medical issues that could be exacerbating the constipation. When in doubt, ask your primary care veterinarian. He/she knows your cat better than anyone else. The two of you are the best health care team for your cat. Best of luck... Dr.
663774 tn?1297225152 If she is negative, depending on her lifestyle (indoors only or outdoors, single cat vs multi cat household) you and your veterinarian could also consider the Feline Leukemia vaccine. After her boosters, she should be vaccinated per the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) protocols. That is rabies and distemper once every 3 years and feline leukemia vaccine based on her risk factors.
Avatar n tn I have a male cat, he's been using the bathroom in our two bathtubs and using it on the vents. I noticed today when he urinated in the bathtub there was little blood in it. I know I need to take him to the ver but this is 4th of July weekend and nothing is open, and I can't afford emergency vet. Is there anything I can buy out there that will help my cat at least over the weekend?
Avatar f tn If is, of course, impossible for us to say here. But both as a veterinarian, and as a cat owner, this is what I would do. Get a new set of eyes and a new professional opinion - and express your feelings anew to this second veterinarian and proceed with confidence. In finding this new veterinarian I would look for a specialist in internal medicine. Most major cities have them (DACVIM is after their name), or a Board Certified Veterinary Practitioner (ABVP is after their name).
694466 tn?1227677802 If your pet has not been on heartworm preventive, it would be a good idea to take her to the veterinarian for a blood test. Is she sneezing or coughing? Does she bring up any phlegm when she coughs? Any discharge from her eyes or nose? Let us know how things go....
1186396 tn?1264378747 My cats been acting strange lately, she's eating the dogs food and now she's licking herself and scratching so much she's losing hair. Is she just stressed out or is it fleas oris it related to eating the dog food, I have no idea but it makes me nervous because she's losing hair very quickly and it's to the point where she's getting raw spots. When I shoo her from licking she gives me a nasty look and continues to chew, she's like a chewing zombie.
Avatar f tn s getting a problem secondary to allergies and licking and should be seen by your veterinarian. A lot of the sneezing goes along with the same issues, but not all of it. Your veterinarian can help you minimize these symptoms or if you are looking for additional answers, see a veterinary dermatologist for even more options that may help her.
Avatar n tn My 6yr old male cat has allergic dermitis. He just had to get a shot last week b/c he had sores all over his belly from biting and scratching. Now he has a fat bottom lip. He had the same thing in February, got a shot and it went away. I read that fish based foods can cause allergies. He only eats chicken flavored food but I had just given him a salmon flavored treat a day or so before the lip flare up.
Avatar f tn I hope to help you more with a more complete answer, but can you tell me what tests have been run? Was a CBC, Chemistry including a thyroid (aka t4) run? If so, when? My own cat at a elderly age lost weight and the blood tests didn't change for 6 months and I tested her three times before the changes (kidney in her case) showed up. It does take a 70% change to all kidney function - ie both kidneys, to show up on std bloodwork. Has an ERD test been run on urine? Has urine been analyzed?
791533 tn?1309745344 I agree with Dr. Amthis, veterinary evaluation is needed. Behavioral causes of self mutilation are possible, but are diagnosed by eliminating other treatable medical causes such as parasites, bladder pain, spinal pain, etc.
Avatar n tn My cat Sox was recently put on Lactulose after being constipated. She was given an enema and nothing unusual was found, i.e. blood in stool, worms etc. I noticed that after a day or so of being on the Lactulose that her water consumption went up. Before I took her in her water intake was normal. She had a complete blood panel done about 8 months ago and everything was fine.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately the symptoms that your cat has are not specific to any one disease so it may take a little bit of diagnostics (testing) and time to find the cause. That can be very frustrating for the owner and for the veterinarian trying to treat your cat. Sometimes we are left with treating the symptoms and not being able to identify the disease. Either way talk with your veterinarian. If they aren't able to talk a lot on the phone make an appointment time to go in and talk with them.
Avatar n tn If your cat is not eating or drinking, then this is an emergency, and your cat should go to the veterinarian ASAP. The excessive licking may be due to fleas, allergies, or anxiety (or a combination), and your veterinarian can examine her to tell you the best course of treatment.
Avatar n tn My cat was diagnosed with diabetes about a month ago. He was up to 9 units of Vetsulin and his blood sugar was still over 500. The vet switched him to PZI at 4 units twice a day. For the last month he has been losing urine. If he lays in a spot, when he gets up his fur on the back of his legs is wet. His bladder gets huge and when I find the wet spots I take him to the litter box and he goes and goes and goes. One day he walked on the counter and was dripping urine the whole time.
Avatar n tn When was the last time your cat has seen a veterinarian and when was the last time any blood work was done? One concern of older cats is the development of hyperthyroidism. Symptoms include inappropriate defecation and runny loose stools. Any weight loss? Attitude changes? Ravenous appetite? You might have the veterinarian check his anal glands based on your description of pus.
Avatar n tn Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBD is typically something that a cat will have for the rest of its life. It can be variable as to how effectively we can control it and how well your cat will do. You can not diagnose IBD with an ultrasound. The ultrasound can look like IBD but the only true diagnosis is by obtaining biopsies with endoscopy or exploratory surgery. Even a diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease does not let you know if there is an underlying cause.
Avatar f tn If a cat is on sub-q fluids for a short time and becomes very lethargic, isn't that a sign of possible CHF? And wouldn't or shouldn't a veterinarian recognize that and stop the fluids and do an x-ray?
Avatar n tn All of a sudden, the cat attacked her, I came out, and the cat attacked me. We sat on the couch, cat was fine again, ate some treats, when our feet touched the floor, cat freaked out again. Fangs out, growling, hissing, everything!! I mean cat was screaming! Normally, gentle loving cat. Had here from baby. Never been outside, got all shots, been spayed. We ran out of apartment, afraid to go back in. I am scared and don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn What can I give my cat for pain? I believe she is having some arthritic issues, especially in her hind legs. She's beginning to walk more on her hind hocks instead of her paws.
