Cat not eating kidney

Common Questions and Answers about Cat not eating kidney

eating

Avatar n tn Is he still not eating? Is he picking at his food or just not eating at ALL? It's important to call the vet as soon as you notice the kitty isn't eating, please use me as an example. My cat stopped eating but I figured she was eating when no one else was around since she has an aggressive food loving sister and I didn't notice something was wrong until I pet her and realized she was getting really boney.
Avatar f tn This cat had a kidney infection 3 years ago that was successfully treated with antibiotics. She was very sick and was not eating or drinking for several days. I had to give her fluids under her skin. She made a fairly complete recovery but is always meowing for canned food. I gave her the special diet from the vet but couldn't afford the cans long term (it came to $1.50 a can). I researched the lowest protein for canned food and have used various brands.
Avatar f tn My 20 year old cat has stopped eating or is eating very litle and is getting very thin.
518117 tn?1429276273 And I am running into little on the subject. Other than it is not normal for a cat to be doing this. I know cats can nibble at plants themselves though. But, she is showing no interest in the plants. Just the dirt the plants are in. And I really don't believe this is a behavorial problem. Paradise is a little character, but is usually a well behaved cat. I am just worried that she could be doing this due to some underlying health issue. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Avatar m tn My elderly parents have 2 Japanese Chins and unfortunately we had to have one put to sleep yesterday. She had not been eating so the vet thought it was her teeth, she then had the back ones removed. She still was not eating so it was put down to tender gums with having her teeth out. The vet then did various x-rays, a barium meal and an ultrasound but still nothing showed up. She was still not eating and was vomiting what looked like water. The vet is at a loss as to what caused this.
1218645 tn?1266636791 Your cat is eating now which is great, but anorexia and decreased eating are very common in kidney disease at times. If your cat does becomes anorexic ask your vet for a prescription for either Periactin or Remeron, which are both good prescription appetite stimulants. The Chinese herbal formula‘s: Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi Tang (also known as Eight Gentleman), or Yu Nu Jian are also very helpful appetite stimulants, especially if the prescriptions are ineffective.
Avatar n tn I agree that this could be a bladder infection, but another possibility is that this could be kidney disease especially since the cat is losing weight. Kidney disease happens when a cat is 7 yrs or older. This is not a problem that'll just go away, but this could get MUCH worse. I wouldn't delay taking your cat to the vet.
Avatar m tn It is also very important to keep your cat eating a proper diet. Unlike dogs, cats with kidney disease can do well on high protein, low carb, no grain diets of canned origin or home-made. Daily sub cutaneous fluid therapy is also necessary. Your vet can instruct you in home fluid therapy. This is the cat equivalent of dialysis. Any urinary tract infection must be treated promptly, so have the urinalysis performed often.
Avatar n tn my dog has got kidney failure and she has not eaten for three days or more .she is drinking but then being sick .sleeping alot .
11404538 tn?1417932325 The fact that your cat has not eaten in 2 days is not good. There are a number of reasons why a cat might purr. I found out recently that sometimes cats purr to make themselves feel better when they are sick. You need to take your cat to a vet asap . I don't want to alarm you but organs could start to shut down after two days of no food and minimal amounts of water. This is serious. Your cat needs urgent medical care. Do not delay. Let your vet tell you what is wrong with your cat.
387767 tn?1345872027 Be sure to discuss all recommended vaccines with your veterinarian. A cat with kidney disease or kidney failure should not be vaccinated at all. Long-term feeding of an all-dry-food diet is also suspected as a factor in Chronic Renal Failure. Cats' kidneys are highly efficient and adapted to life in the desert, where they would get most or all of their water from eating their prey.
Avatar n tn My cat is going to be 12 years old. He had his first bout of kidney issues in June of 2014. I immediately changed his diet to raw beef kidney, which he loves and started him on Petwellbeing Kidney gold and urinary tract gold. I have since taken my cat to a holistic vet and he took him off of both of those products and put him Rehmannia 6 along with some other supplements for his kidneys. While he was on the Pet wellbeing product he was doing great and his numbers were normal.
Avatar m tn I'm thinking kidneys or diabetes also, especially if this is not a young cat.
148354 tn?1211233906 I took her to the vet, the blood work came back that the white count is very high and seems to have a small mass near the kidney. I do not want to put her thru the trauma of surgery. They said she may not make it thru, and I will have to make a decision on when to put her to sleep. I felt with her age, to let her be.
Avatar f tn Ok, so i have a 10 year old mut that is part collie, part shepherd, and part golden retreiver. She has not been eating or drinking much (half a bowl of food and water each) for the past 4 days. She is acting lethargic when not doing anything, (she will typically fall asleep in about 10 or so minutes but now will fall asleep within 30 seconds to a minute) but it doesnt stop her from wanting to move around if she wants to do something. She has been going to the bathroom fine.
Avatar f tn He shed some pounds but still overweight. Just last week, he started eating cat food and refused to eat his food. One day before turning 14, started to eat less cat food, and eat less his own food with fresh veg. (Kale, spinach and carrots). He used to love eating Blueberries, Apple and Cucumber, and he just refused to eat the fruits. Went to vet on his bday, he just gave him appetite stimulant. The following day, no improvemt at all.
Avatar n tn I am worried...my cat has not eaten in two days and his stomach appears hard and distended. He is also moving around rather slowly.
Avatar f tn This causes the bladder to fill with urine and eventually burst if not treated (although the cat often dies of kidney failure and electolyte imbalances before the bladder bursts). Another possibility for a distended painful abdomen would be intestinal obstruction or rupture.
Avatar f tn I am very sorry about your poor cat. Cats can get kidney failure at a young age most commonly if, 1. they were born with a kidney congenital abnormality, which is usually undiagnosed until they have a problem, or, 2. they were exposed to a renal toxin such as ethylene glycol poisoning. Your cat may have acute renal failure which can be secondary to a severe bladder or kidney infection or other disease.
Avatar n tn My bichon has lost a lot of weight and now just lies in her bed although she is eating and drinking. Had her bloods done yesterday and vet said today she has very bad kidney failure. She is staying in vets overnight on iv drip. This ever happen to anyone and what was outcome?
874521 tn?1424116797 If kitty is drinking more, peeing more, not eating well or more lethargic than usual...what to look for and what tests to have...great video. http://partnersah.vet.cornell.
Avatar f tn I took my cat to the vet because she had stopped eating due to not be able to hold her food down. They did and an xray and found no obstructions. They said her stomach lining was swollen from her constant vomiting. The vet said that when cats throw up their stomach lining swell and it keeps swelling every time they puke and consequently they continue to puke when food hits their stomach. So they gave her anti nausea meds and re- hydrated her, the problem is that was only a temporary fix.
