Common Questions and Answers about Cat losing weight while nursing

Avatar n tn I have a young cat very small that had 6 kittent they are all doing good but the mother is losing weight looking very malnurished and always hungery she is acting like she is starving but has food we have tried moving her to wet food and milk and she is eating the dry kitten and cat food what do i do
Avatar f tn She got pretty skinny while she was nursing, so I am now trying to get some weight back on her. The babies eat like each meal is their first and their last. The biggest one (Toto) is just over a pound. He isn't the largest of them, but he is the heaviest and quite muscular for such a young kitten. I think he is going to be one big cat when he grows up. The 2 female brown tabbies that look like mama are the smallest.
Avatar n tn Let's see a 10 yr old cat that's losing weight and losing hair. This, to me, sounds like your cat has an overactive thyroid. Try doing a google search or yahoo search on hyperthyroidism and see if the symptoms fit. There's also a possiblility of kidney disease, as well. That could cause weight loss, too, but not hair loss. My main suspicion is hyperthyroid disease. This can be extremely dangerous because the heart rate increases big time. This can cause heart failure.
148057 tn?1231426991 I know many women praise breastfeeding for helping them lose weight, but have any of you struggled with losing weight while breastfeeding and instead lost it AFTER you were done breastfeeding? I lost all but 5 pounds that I had gained while pregnant. I am 5'8" and weighed 140 before I got pregnant - so I was very average in weight.
1467985 tn?1289777446 s possible it could help in conception. If you eat a sensible diet, the natural side effect of that is going to be losing weight. I thought that Weight Watchers had plans out there for pg and nursing mothers? Check that out, so if you were to join, they may just adjust your points schedule. The doctors told me to lose weight while we were TTC. It took us over 3+ years to conceive . . . .
193609 tn?1292180293 How did you guys lose the weight you gained during your pregnancy??? It has been 7 months and I just can't stand this extra fat any longer!!!!!!! WHAT IS AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT???
Avatar n tn t lose weight while i was nursing, i was the same way with my daugther. i stopped nursing in october, right around the time i went to a weight loss clinic to help with my diet and started seeing a nutritionist. i also work full time, i try to walk as much as possible. i walk during my 30 min lunch.
Avatar f tn I agree with grannieannie -- don't take phentermine while nursing........ in fact, I doubt seriously that you will even be able to find a reputable doctor who will prescribe it, since you are breastfeeding. You say you are counting calories, so I have to ask what types of food you are eating. You need to eat foods that take longest to break down in the body -- lean protein, high fiber. The longer it takes your food to be digested, the longer you will fell full.
Avatar m tn my cat was at a friends house after giving birth to 4 kittens while she nursed them. i visited often, and towards the end, i noticed that she was getting thinner and acting funny so i was pleased to bring her home last night. i think they might have been starving her, but it could be from losing nutrients to nursing kittens. today, her tummy is really hard and it looks like its hurting her because she is having trouble lying down and sitting right.
1196055 tn?1266333306 No, eating healthily is the best thing for you and your baby whilst nursing. Trying to loose weight quickly with crash diets or diet pills is not a good thing to do when nursing.
518733 tn?1333017015 t make it seem like the weight will just melt off. It was hard for me to loose the weight but I did seem to loose a lot quicker while nursing then I did after I stopped. I definitely did not loose all of my pregnancy weight.
Avatar n tn My indoor cat began losing weight rapidly approximately 2 months ago. Up until then he was very healthy. He is still eating, drinking, urinating and pooping normally. I took him to the vet where he was tested for hyperthyroidism. This test came back negative. The vet ran tests for feline leukemia, parasites, high protein levels in urine - all tests came back negative. The vet is just as frustrated as I am as my cat continues to lose weigh and there are no indications why.
Avatar n tn I agree that this could be a bladder infection, but another possibility is that this could be kidney disease especially since the cat is losing weight. Kidney disease happens when a cat is 7 yrs or older. This is not a problem that'll just go away, but this could get MUCH worse. I wouldn't delay taking your cat to the vet.
Avatar f tn less than 3 weeks after delivery, and im back at my prepregnancy weight(i gained 33lbs while preggo). im wondering how safe this is. on top of it all, i have no appetite. i take my prenatal pills, but im wondering if thats ok for the baby? he had a 2 week check up and he weighed a whole pound more from his weight when he was discharged, so im sure he's eating properly. in fact the dr mentioned that 1lb in 2 weeks may be too much gained.
Avatar f tn In the last few months my cat has been losing its fur and now its starting lose fur all over, it has been losing weight too an has very recently been sick a lot, whats wrong with my cat?
Avatar n tn 15 yr. old cat losing weight but still active w/normal bloodwork including thyroid. What to look for next?
Avatar n tn For the past 2 weeks, the cat has been not eating enough and is only interested in eating liquids (gravy from canned food, pureed cat food). Last week, the vet did x-rays and blood work and said while the liver is a little large, nothing jumps out as the cause. The cat has lots of mucous in his mouth. The cat is scheduled for an abdominal ultra-sound later this week and I was told by the vet that she thinks it might be cancer.
1680047 tn?1468911829 Since your cat is not producing milk, the kitten is not nursing on her. The recently weaned kitten is simply sucking on your cat (and would probably do the same to you) as a comfort and security thing, much as babies do with a binkie. My only concern would be that since your female cat was just spayed, the kitten nursing in that area could infect her incision or cause her spay scar to open.
