Avatar n tn Let's see a 10 yr old cat that's losing weight and losing hair. This, to me, sounds like your cat has an overactive thyroid. Try doing a google search or yahoo search on hyperthyroidism and see if the symptoms fit. There's also a possiblility of kidney disease, as well. That could cause weight loss, too, but not hair loss. My main suspicion is hyperthyroid disease. This can be extremely dangerous because the heart rate increases big time. This can cause heart failure.
Avatar n tn t lose weight while i was nursing, i was the same way with my daugther. i stopped nursing in october, right around the time i went to a weight loss clinic to help with my diet and started seeing a nutritionist. i also work full time, i try to walk as much as possible. i walk during my 30 min lunch.
Avatar f tn I agree with grannieannie -- don't take phentermine while nursing........ in fact, I doubt seriously that you will even be able to find a reputable doctor who will prescribe it, since you are breastfeeding. You say you are counting calories, so I have to ask what types of food you are eating. You need to eat foods that take longest to break down in the body -- lean protein, high fiber. The longer it takes your food to be digested, the longer you will fell full.
Avatar n tn I agree that this could be a bladder infection, but another possibility is that this could be kidney disease especially since the cat is losing weight. Kidney disease happens when a cat is 7 yrs or older. This is not a problem that'll just go away, but this could get MUCH worse. I wouldn't delay taking your cat to the vet.
692762 tn?1227551281 My cat had kittens 3 years ago, when she was nursing she got a rash. The rash went away, but now it has came back on both bottom nipples, one nipple has a black spot on it and its not getting worst or better. she keeps licking them and it doesnt seem to make it better. The rash looks exactly like what she had when she was nursing. I have put peroxide on it, it shows she has an infection but it seems to make it a bit better. and my cat lets me do this i guess becuz it relieves whatever she feels.
Avatar n tn For the past 2 weeks, the cat has been not eating enough and is only interested in eating liquids (gravy from canned food, pureed cat food). Last week, the vet did x-rays and blood work and said while the liver is a little large, nothing jumps out as the cause. The cat has lots of mucous in his mouth. The cat is scheduled for an abdominal ultra-sound later this week and I was told by the vet that she thinks it might be cancer.
Avatar f tn She was fed hay and 16% feed while pregnant and still began to lose her own weight. The baby was born very fat and healthy, now 5 months later, the baby continues to be a chubby one, but the Mama has gone down severely. Her hips and ribs are showing. We are feeding her a 14% feed mix twice a day along with hay and rye grass. She started falling about a week ago and requires help getting up with a tractor and straps.
1301089 tn?1290666571 My cat is nursing and I feed her cat meat and biscuts, The only reason some cats cant eat kitten meat is because their back teeth havent developed properly and they cant digest the jelly..... Thats whats wrong with my cat anyways but he can eat everything else LOL... I feed my mummy cat 2 times a day because she is nursing still and they need as much as possible and she could be pregnant again also... So... But meat is good for them and it doesnt rot their teeth...
676912 tn?1332812551 What's ok/not ok to do while BFing? I really would like to start losing all this extra weight, I want to drop 40 lbs. I know it'll take a while, and I'm gonna start a workout routine when I get my ab rocker, BUT I don't know what's ok. I don't want anything I do to affect being able to BF. I'd rather be overweight and BF than be back in my "skinny" jeans. I'm trying to start eating healthier (as I eat pizza, lol), but how much should I be eating a day?
1680047 tn?1468911829 Since your cat is not producing milk, the kitten is not nursing on her. The recently weaned kitten is simply sucking on your cat (and would probably do the same to you) as a comfort and security thing, much as babies do with a binkie. My only concern would be that since your female cat was just spayed, the kitten nursing in that area could infect her incision or cause her spay scar to open.
10823174 tn?1413080834 My cat is 9 years old. Two weeks ago we noticed she had lost allot of weight, so we started feeding her can food and she started gaining weight but about 6 days ago she started losing chunks of fur to the point she has a huge spot and you can see her skin. I took her to the vet they tested for cancer it was negative and the vet done nothing but sent us on our way with antibiotics and told me my car was dying. I don't agree with her, but would love to know what's wrong with my cat.....
473796 tn?1238293442 If/when you take him to the vet, the doc will probably want to perform blood work. Sometimes you do not get an answer as to why the cat is losing weight so rapidly, but some people find out it is just a phase in their outdoor lives. Food usually helps with that. Other owners may find their outdoor kitties are borderline diabetic or have thyroid problems. Being outside can help burn tons of calories, and lose weight, especially when they're fighting for a female in heat.
Avatar m tn My cat had fleas and he was constantly licking, fur was coming off and he lost weight. Vet gave him a shot and a pill, he started to gain weight again and returned to his old self and bothering the dog and playing. He stopped for a while but actually did have to have the shot and pill twice. Where he licked the fur off in the beginning all grew back. He is still his playful self but he is licking again and his hind legs are losing fur and one side of his backend by his tail.
Avatar f tn She nursed them for 3 months? Normally kittens are weaned at about 6 weeks. I would suggest you keep the kittens separate from the mama for a while. They aren't actually nursing since she no longer has milk, but if they are sucking and biting on her teets, they could become inflamed and infected. Kittens will continue to "pretend nurse" (sucking and kneading without actually being fed) for as long as mama will let them.
