1716071 tn?1308803156 CML014, do you know if duck is okay to give if a cat is allergic to chicken? My vet said its still poultry and not to try it if I want to get away from chicken, which I do. I;ve tried unscented litter, and two shots, one being Convenia by accident. Neither helped. I;ve got him on Benedryl and am going to switch foods next, but its very hard to find one without chicken,, even the fish ones have chicken.
5655568 tn?1371757104 if he is on chicken try beef or venison, chicken is also a huge culprit in allergies because it is the common base of nearly ALL pet foods. I had to switch one of mine to fish for awhile, but fish isn't good to feed long term...but it may be necessary for a trial period if you can't get him to eat something other than chicken....
874521 tn?1424116797 Yeah, from what I understand the Feline Greenies aren't really good for cats. I forget where I learned about this, but I don't give them to Akira any more since learning about this. Plus, I think there are grains in the Greenies. They're probably fine for dogs, since dogs are omnivores, but not so much for cats.
Avatar f tn That sounds more like a contact allergy to me also. Is the dog let out on grass often? Many can have seasonal allergies to various types of grasses and weeds.
Avatar f tn t manifest themselves worse than they did when it became obvious that she had both food and environmental allergies. I have environmental allergies myself, so I had already taken measures to remove toxins from the environment. Kitty still scratches some, and I do still have to give her 1/4 tablet of Zyrtec when her allergies bother her the most, but I am certain that because of changes I made for myself that I helped the kitty not suffer more with the environmental allergies.
7052683 tn?1392938795 this is a common allergy, b/c cats can become allergic to anything they are exposed too often and as you too will have found out chicken is in almost all the cat foods.....they put a chicken 'base' in even some fish diets. so one has to red the labels very carefully. GRAINS are also a huge culprit, I sure agree!!!! I will also add some to your lists GOOD FOODS. Natures Variety. Tiki, and EVO for a few DRY Foods if you must....
Avatar f tn I know some folks disagree with feeding our little carnivores a balanced raw diet but have you thought of doing that? That is how I got my cat to stop having food allergies AFTER getting the IBD diagnosis and researching on my own since all the vets wanted to do was put him on steroids to control the diarrhea and the bleeding. I had to change his raw diet because of other unrelated issues but ultimately, going back to basics seems to work for many cat owners out there.
Avatar n tn ve tried everything you can think of and since your cat is not responding she will have to be seen. Why can't one of your vet friends see her? Maybe someone else will have an idea. Very best of luck, hon.
Avatar f tn s since passed away. Now have a cat that has allergies to something...still trying to find out. allergies in cats very likely start with a bite from a mite, flea or insect.....than their system develops allergies and one allergy leads to another...ie: foods, dust, pollen etc...just like people...only instead of sneezing it causes skin problems, unusually a small crusty scab that is very itchy, but can also be just an itch without the scab.
Avatar f tn The vet put him on antiobiotics and recommended chicken and rice for diet. The cat has an appetite and was eating for about 4 days without any vomiting, and finally had a solid stool. Then all of a sudden he vomited over the weekend again and then on Monday he vomited in 4 different spots of the house. He has energy and a huge appetite. Can he be having these problems from overeating?
Avatar n tn If your cat is already on a good flea control such as Advantage or Revolution, then parasites are less likely. Options to treat allergies are to continue to treat symptoms with medications (okay if symptoms only occur occasionally and your cat only needs 1-2 steroid injections per year), or to identify and treat the underlying cause.
Avatar m tn The vet said since the prednisone worked on her its most likely environmental allergies from relocating to a moist humid environment with lots of pollen from a very dry desert environment. After taking her off the steroids she has continued to lick the fur off her backside, hind legs, and now starting on her front paws. I have switched her food to a limited ingredients food with salmon and green peas for her coat and skin, but it doesn't seem to be working.
779797 tn?1263618235 he has had a few cortisone shots to boost his immune system and that clears the spots for awhile. we also did a food change to duck instead of the usual chicken ingred in pet food, that lasted for 5 months, now we are doing prednisone tablets.
Avatar m tn Is there any home remedy to cure an ulcer on the lower lip jaw of a cat. She is about 10 years old and a stray.
Avatar m tn however I do hope you keep the chicken diet to just a small amount each day...I agree its better than feeding most of that horrid cat food, however he does need the other supplements that are added to remain healthy. I make my own cat food for one of my boys...sometimes I use chicken as a protien source b/c he loves his chicken!!!
Avatar f tn hi Sabrina and welcome to our cat forum. I'll send you some websites to check out, this condition is usually due to allergies in both cats and dogs alike. It is usually called EGC or eosinophilic granuloma complex or sometimes reffered to as atopic dematitis.... I too have a kitty with this, it takes alot of reading and for him a diet change....chicken is the most common ingredient in cat food thus happens to be the most common for an allergic response.
Avatar f tn Anything you put on their body, can be dangerous or fatal to them. If you want to put something on your cat, to be safe and run it by your vet first. As for the fleas, and YES, although your cat is indoors only, she can still have fleas. We bring them into our homes ourselves and then they get our cats. The neck is a famous place for the fleas to hit. The fleas have also attacked my cats neck and she scratched her neck raw, too.
3107761 tn?1341539856 Wow. Thank you for the tips & links! The blood rarely shows up in her stool or diarrhea and the bleeding comes from her rectum. She has been off Purina for about 2 years. She doesn't eat or drink from plastic bowls. After reading some of your links, I may start with a hypo-allergenic food. While i thought http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/ was one of the best dry cat foods, it wasn't hypo-allergenic. I also may try to increase her water intake by some tuna water.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm watching my elderly lady's cat, and I notice there is a growth on the outside of his mouth (not in the mouth). . My neighbor is 88 years old and doesn't take him to the Vet for check-ups. Kitty is about 12 yeats old. She says he is eating okay and feeling well. The growth is larger than the size of a pea and looks hard. Any ideas. I'd like to feel it, but her cat is a little skiddish and can bite. When she returns, I'll encourage her to get the cat to the Vet.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
