933846 tn?1353452448 Swampy's opinion is that if the cat is not used to being bathed it may not be wise to start, but if it is a kitten and you can teach it what a bath is that is different. Bathed cats may trigger allergies less, may shed less, may have fewer hairballs, may have fewer fleas...Swampy has heard all these claims but has no scientific basis to answer them although there is some logic to it.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar m tn Did your girlfriend recently start using a different shampoo for the cat? Different flea/tick medication or collar? Did the cat recently go on any medication for anything? (it's not likely, but if the cat recently started taking a medication and you're allergic to that medication, perhaps being around or petting the cat cause some of that med to get into YOUR system causing your allergic reaction). Are you 100% it's teh cat you are reacting to?
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
Avatar f tn Usually when we see a dog this young with allergies we think food related although it can be environmental too. Try a shampoo called hexadene or chlorhexiderm 4 %. You'll have to google around to find sites and compare costs. Ask the vet about antihistimines. Dogs have a variety of them and can metabolize more mg's then a human so ask for a dose. Benadryl, clemastine, chlorpheniramine are all good. Doxepin is an anti depressant in humans but is a great antihistimine for dogs.

Avatar m tn Hey guys I have a pug and a dsh cat both around 4 years old. About 2 months ago we found out our dog had fleas we counted up to 4 over the course of 3 days so we immediately gave him a flea bath (probably should have steered clear) and followed up by buying them frontline plus. They seem to be flealess since. Meaning I check often and haven't seen any flea dirt or actual fleas on either of them. The problem im having now is they both seem to be scratching around their face area.
Avatar m tn for the past 2 years, i have had severe eye allergies. i'm not talking about a little redness and itching...i'm talking about eyes that look like raw meat and pain like someone threw acid in my face. they sting, burn, itch, water to the point were i can't work or concentrate. i've been to 3 allergist and an immunologist, i've been taking a cocktail of 7 antihistamines plus drops and nothing helps. now, here's the weird part.
Avatar f tn No Matter what shampoo I use, expensive or cheap, I get sores in my scalp.......Has anyone out there experienced this and if so, what did you do about it??Please help!!!!
Avatar f tn OR you can get about ten washcloths, and get them wet with warm water, and use the cloths to wash the cat. Put diluted cat shampoo on one, and then use the others for rinsing. (You can dip back and forth from a bowl of clean warm water.) This is a very slow process, but the cat thinks of mommy's rough tongue grooming her, and doesn't usually mind too much. If you do the method with the sprayer or the one with the dip, use the warm washcloth method for the face and ears.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.

Avatar f tn humans alike if they have allergies or sensitivities. I you shampoo your carpets, use ones safe/safer for allergies. If you have recently shampooed or sprayed anything on your carpets or furniture... shampoo again using allergy safe &/or several plain water rinses should help. The other reasons can be, food allergies, (frequently grain in food) is very common yet not acknowledged allergy.
Avatar f tn The reason we sneeze is the body's natural way of getting rid of an irritant. The irritant can be from a virus, bacteria, dust, fumes, perfumes, feathers, pollen, animal dander. Some people are more sensitive than others. Although you may not suffer from allergies, as we get older we still can become allergic to something. You may be just coming down with a cold virus.
1254673 tn?1270647844 I have tried the expensive dog foods, but she refuses to eat anything unless I am eating it, or the cat is. So she gets a mixture of cat food, and if the cat eats out of her bowl, then she will eat the dog food. When symptoms arise, it is usually because she has picked up a flea out of the grass somewhere and seems to be allergic, so if it is time I get her a dose of advantage, (usually bath her first with selsom blue) and give her benadryl for a couple of days.
Avatar n tn s to test for allergies and what I do in the store I work for is put the family (or single person) in the cat room (so there is less dog dander from the other puppies) and leave them for 30-45 minutes. Play with the dog, sniff and suggle them. Think how you feel at the end of the 30-45 minutes and think honestly if you want to live like that for the next 10-15 years (in case the allergy shots don't work).
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar f tn My vet says my golden retriever has allergies - food and grass. Have tried various pet food for sensitive skin, some very expensive, and also using Malaseb shampoo weekly. Don't see fleas - ever. She's inside alot but takes lots of walk and plays in the back yard. She chews her paws, scratches everywhere. Have used Benadryl but I hate to think she will have to live on that. Nothing really seems to help. What to do? Have heard fish oil, Vit 3, Omega 3's, help.
Avatar n tn The vet derm thought it was allergies and we put him on a hypo-allergenic diet but that did not stop it. This is now going on for two years. It started when he had been scratching his ears and had a growth on his face and neck. His regular vet gave him a long term steroid shot and betamethasone dipropionate cream usp 0.05% and everything cleared up but his belly licking.

Avatar n tn Example-are you not home as much anymore, have you moved, do you have a new cat? Plus many more will stress a cat out. This is only a possibility. In the meantime, I would trim kitty's nails down some, to keep her from doing any more damage. Just don't go to short, cuz you'll draw blood. Has the vet done any other tests-blood work? If so, what did it show?
