cat allergies new house

The reason I'm asking this is my allergies have been just wild the last few weeks, and it seems to be when I'm in the house. I'm sneezing, congested, itchy, etc., When I'm out I don't notice it as much but as soon as I'm back home it seems to come right on me. So, there's something in the house, something new I'm assuming, that I'm reacting to. The only thing new I can think of is my son's new cat he brought back home with him.

My cat is 18 months old and has started to rip her fur out above her tail, her eyes and down her front leg, she only started doing this when I moved house and got another cat, is this normal?

Sniffles, I think you got that name regarding the allergies eh? First off, if your friend don't mind, make sure the cats can be brushed. You might or might not know this, but it's not the hair that we are allergic to, it's the cat's saliva. They clean themselves with the saliva and then it gets on the hair. So it's not just the cat/s, it's anything the cat licks or gets the hair after it cleans itself on. Brushing the cat before and after visits will help.

Thats a really great idea I should ask! I dont feel my allergies are severe my SIL has had cats in her house and my allergies were not "killing me" where i couldnt stand it! sometimes i feel the need to get up and wash my hands but nothing too bad!! I do think if I follow the advice online about vacuuming my carpet and maybe getting a humidifier then i would be ok! they say its the dander released into the air that gets you!

so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Hi, Calm down and just let your cat know where the food, water and litter are. I assure you that in your cat's own time he/she will begin to feel less fear and come around. I had to take in my daughter's cat into my house with 2 dogs and a cat. Her cat stayed as far away as possible for months, and when we saw her on the stairs and we reached to try to pet her she swiped at us.

The cat should be washed with water once a week and brushed twice daily to limit the amount of hair around the house. A product that is worth more than gold is called allerpet-c, a liquid that you wipe the cat with once a week (works best if you bathe the cat first to remove the built up dander, let them lick themselves dry which puts more dander back on their coat and THEN use the allerpet).

My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.

I havn't bought any new clothing, or changed and of the soap in my house or anything in my shower. Im really confused.

I just wanted to say Hello! I just found this community! I have 6 cats! All but one were adopted off the streets! I am a sucker for a starving cat/kitten who shows up on my porch! Once they come inside my house, they never leave! Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.

Anyone else develop new allergies? I just found out last year, I'm highly allergic to wheat products. And now, since the pregnancy... I've grown a reaction to my cat.. Or any animal... :( Anyone else?

I've recently been to an allergist because of newly acquired allergies. I'm 43. I developed an allergy to cats in my 20s after having cats since I was a child. I got a new kitten and found that her saliva gave me hives. Since then I've always had a mild cat allergy. I was tested and found allergic to cats and dogs and a mild reaction to milk. Well as some of you know my cat Abby is extremely attached to me and sleeps with us in the bed. Abby cannot stand to be away from me and we know why. we just got a kitten, and although i lived all my life in my partents house with a cat, i seem to have developped a pet allergie. i have itchy eyes, sneezing, easy headaches,difficulty in breathing, sensation of a burning nose. i started taking some allergie stop medicine and use some spray to decongesionate my nose. they work, in big lines, very good, my question is: for how long can i still use this medicine? do not want to abuse it. how expensive are the allergie stop shots?

If you work in a house where the lady owns cats, and now you are itching, you could be. The daugher with the issues just turned 2, was diagnosed with asthma about 6-8 months ago (does breathing treatments regularly with Albuteral). She was allergy tested yesterday and came up with a 4/5 allergy to cats. She has moderate to severe eczema being treated with topical corticosteriods (Elidel, Elocon, something else) and has now been prescribed what is probably the REST of the list of cortocosteroids by the allergist. We've tried Singular in the past, but it made her mean.

When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?

Also, being that it was a stray I thought it was completey irresponsible for her to bring it in the house without having seen a vet first. I asked for the cat and the litter box to be left in her room to avoid any risks. I have not come in any contact with the cat at all until last night. Somehow the cat had gotten into my room and was hiding under the bed without my knowledge. After finally realizing the cat had been in the room I picked it up and put it outside of the room.

I know this question may sound ridiculous but are people with hiv more prone to allergies?
