Avatar f tn I have a cat that fetches and I love it. He isn’t Maine Coon. A lot of cats greet their owners at the door. Your kitten is pretty normal, I’d say. You’re lucky she displays her Maine Coon characteristics like this. I just think fetching looks wonderful in a cat. She isn’t weird. She is just a Maine Coon........
Avatar f tn I have 7 yr. old female pure bred Maine Coon that we went to Atlanta to adopt. She had been eating Purina Indoor. My daughter bought a improved taste Purina Indoor and my cat had been ill ever since. She was vomiting and loose stool. When she poops she smells to high heaven-really bad. Started giving her Kaopectate-1 tsp. every 8 hrs. or after every bowel movement. The loose stools has slowed down but I can't get her to eat and she has lost weight. She does drink water.
Avatar f tn I'm so sorry to hear about your Maine Coon. Our 16 y/o Maine Coon was recently diagnosed with CRF (chronic renal failure) and she "crashed" a couple of weeks ago. I've been on 24 x 7 watch trying to keep her comfortable. I've found that the fluids help and she was licking her lips a lot and not eating (I figured out she had an upset stomach) so I started her on Slippery Elm and it is doing wonders for her!
6726276 tn?1421126668 LOL, lucky! :-) I had to actually put a stop there and say 'no more cats!', otherwise I would be the crazy cat lady with 50 cats. Six is perfect: I was able to have all fixed (no kittens, yay!), and vaccinated, and I can feed them. They go in and out of the house by meowing at the door. So, there is always at least one in the house to keep me company--usually 'Cheese', who loves nothing more than to lay all stretched out and twisted up on our couch in the afternoons.
572651 tn?1530999357 these are special - and different - _and_, can get very heavy. The people I've known who had them were devoted to the type. Thanks for the update - have been wondering about how she is.
Avatar f tn My own cat who weighs omg like 17 pounds he's not fat just super big Maine coon, he always lays on my belly it's so comforting but uncomfortable.
Avatar f tn I don't have a ton of advice but agree that he is a very light weight for a Maine Coon. I have 3 Maine Coons. I'll say some prayers for your kitty and for you. Hopefully, the vet will find out why the weight loss and please keep an eye on that limp. Maybe when you talk to the vet about the blood work mention the limp. Good luck!
Avatar n tn First time on this web site. I have a 6 year old male Maine Coon (cat), who has been the most lovable cat. Tonight he started hissing at our other cats for no reason. We have a kitty box available, and "Big Kitty" never uses it. He has always gone outside to do his business. He's been in and out of the kitty box all night, and nothing is happening. Then he goes under the coffee table to clean himself and he growls, like he is in pain.
474119 tn?1273841478 Of course, I have two Maine Coons and my mother lives with us and she has a Maine Coon and a very large short-haired male cat! But, even the vet told me she was small and he doesn't think she'll get much bigger, but healthy. She looks like she's only 4 months old! We've been trying to find her a home since we already have 4 cats, but so far, no luck. So, I'm trying to talk my hubby into letting me keep her! LOL!!!!
Avatar m tn I have a 17 year old Maine Coon kitty who usually develops dry and itchy skin in the fall and winter but this year the symptoms have been more severe, he keeps itching himself (he does it in a quick, flailing way too where his whole body will shake) until he has severe bald patches and bloody places on his body.
Avatar n tn I have a loving, sweet-natured 5 yr. old Maine Coon named Truly. He has a curious habit. When sitting upright he will sometimes "gather" his tail with his front paws and proceed to kneed it,back and fourth, backand fourth. His eyes are squinted shut when he does this, and it almost seems he is smiling. My husband and I are puzzled.Any ideas?
534013 tn?1250201049 My maine coon, Luffy has recently been clawing at his ear. We looked into his ear and i saw alot of black stuff all gunked up into it. He's been scratching so much he now has a claw mark in his ear that bleeds everytime he scratches the scab off. He walks around crying and shaking his head, i feel so bad for my baby what should i do? I looked up cleaning his ears and a friend gave me some mite killing drops for his ears that i've been usuing everynight for a couple nights now.
Avatar n tn Our 12-year-old Maine Coon cat Penelope, has had a lump below her jaw line for at least 6 years now. When my husband first rescued this cat she had it, and he immediately had it aspirated. Everything was fine, and now the lump is growing faster and faster by the day, and we are now being told that surgery is the only way to handle it this time. The surgeon we most recently took her to advised that the total for all the tests and the surgery would be $3800.00.
541150 tn?1306033843 I mean, it’s a Maine Coon. Who doesn’t like Coonies? Hopefully, the cat will be a lover, just like Abby. I already am getting prepared. I got two litter boxes just in case Abby feels threatened. Oh my God, Oh my God I’m so excited!! I hope I don’t come back saying the mission was impossible. That would be a disaster.
1301089 tn?1290666571 Mousey is a male orange and white medium to long hair domestic long hair/Maine coon mix. 8 years old 18 pounds when fully shedded. (22 at least in full coat!) I've tried to keep a collar on him but there is no collar known to mankind that he can't shed. He has a small scar on his nose. And drools when happy. If you know anyone in the Denton, TX area, please let them know. You are free to pm me with anything at all about him.
Avatar m tn Many kittens bite when playing. And some adult cats will bite when playing too. We have a big Maine Coon cat who has always done this, but as he's gotten older, he now realizes that it hurts us, so he bites more gently. He only does it when he's playing and gets excited. If we stop interacting with him and just talk to him calmly, he's fine again.
Avatar f tn I have a 14 year old Maine coon who has CRF, has had IV fluids for 3 days, is on SQ fluids with Vit. B 12, takes mirizapine, dapepoetin, pepcid, renal essential, fatty acids. I am starting to give him home made food for cats with CRF. After the first day of fluids his BUN 85, creatinine 4.5, phos 5.8 and calcium 10.4. He is anemic and amylase is 1675. He had an urine anlysis and it showed the urine was dilute.
Avatar f tn My kitten looks a lot like her. The vets at the shelter said he was a Maine Coon Mix. The vets at, well, the vet's office say he is, in fact, a MCM but they wanted to go ahead and register him as a Domestic Long hair. He looks a lot...a lot like your cat.
1036655 tn?1254617435 I agree with April. I have a Maine Coon, Abby, who gets stimulated to quickly. She can get pretty mean at times. She'll bite and do the low growl. So, I am extra careful in the way I play with her. She loves to be played with with toys and stuff like that, but not handled in play. She can be so adorable and loveable, but if she gets worked up (which is easy to do) she will start to hyperventilate. She's 3 now and not as bad as she was as a kitten.
875426 tn?1325528416 ve wondered if she might have Norwegian forest cat in her. She is very long, but not as big as a Maine Coon. Thanks for watching!
Avatar m tn About 24 hours after our 8 year old Maine Coon cat was anesthetized for a teeth cleaning, we noticed that the membrane around his eye (possible what is called the 3rd eyelid) was brown with some black rather than it's normal healthy pink. And he was squinting--not opening his eyes fully. His behavior was also off--lethargic, listless, etc.--rather than his normal self. We didn't notice any other symptoms.
691935 tn?1421027090 When I still had Mousey, who was a Maine Coon, I had to brush him 2 times a day. More during shedding season. Any mats close to the skin, you'll need to take her to a vet or a groomer. You can cut out some of it but be careful not to cut her skin. The vet can sedate which may be needed to shave some cats. I've never had much luck with the "furminator" and those types of combs. I just use a regular cat brush. I use the same one on my Golden Retriever.
8924846 tn?1410572901 s especially lovey like my last pregnancy. My Maine coon and 2 year old are the best of friends, literally where my son is the cat is. I don't think you have anything to worry about (: he just knows.
4287262 tn?1358999012 Okay so I'm a cat lover and I have one female domestic shorthair that is worse than my Maine coon. My suggestion is... Vacuuming the cat! Lol and don't let it outside or it will shed more due to seasonal temperatures in your region. Take them to a groomers if they are longer haired or you know what.. Shave them.
