Common Questions and Answers about Cat allergies in the fall

cat-allergies

746512 tn?1388807580 I used to get pretty bad hayfever in the fall/early winter (as well as the killer hay fever I still get in the spring). I honestly think my fall problems were caused by the trees- cedar, alderwood, and/or pine. The problem seemed to get worse if I went to into a forest and it completely disappeared after I moved to Australia. So whatever was causing my problem is back in the Washington State.
326352 tn?1310994295 Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help de-allergize a cat instead of getting rid of the cat? Our 3 1/2 yr old will probably fall to pieces if we end up having to give the cat away because her sister is severely allergic to him. To keep this in persective, I'm allergic to cats also, but manage mine fairly well and have grown out of mine, mostly. There are some products for bathing and for spraying around the house.
1232362 tn?1333135406 Sometimes when she is asleep in the daytime I hear it. Of course, this kitty has allergies, so that could be part of her problem. She has some of the same allergies I do. I don't think humidifiers would be the answer for us, because we have the opposite problem. I have a measuring device for the humidity level in here, so I know that isn't the issue for us. If you heard the way this cat snores, you might bust out laughing yourself. You wouldn't be able to help it.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I figure if people can build up resistance to antihistamines that it would be reasonable to assume that the same thing can happen to the cat. I generally give her the Zyrtec when the allergies are bothering her the most so that I don't give her too much.
Avatar f tn Sniffles, I think you got that name regarding the allergies eh? First off, if your friend don't mind, make sure the cats can be brushed. You might or might not know this, but it's not the hair that we are allergic to, it's the cat's saliva. They clean themselves with the saliva and then it gets on the hair. So it's not just the cat/s, it's anything the cat licks or gets the hair after it cleans itself on. Brushing the cat before and after visits will help.
Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
Avatar f tn Im allergic to the horses the dogs the cat the hay my rabbits...
203342 tn?1328737207 The reason I'm asking this is my allergies have been just wild the last few weeks, and it seems to be when I'm in the house. I'm sneezing, congested, itchy, etc., When I'm out I don't notice it as much but as soon as I'm back home it seems to come right on me. So, there's something in the house, something new I'm assuming, that I'm reacting to. The only thing new I can think of is my son's new cat he brought back home with him.
440120 tn?1211724496 I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.
207091 tn?1337709493 Strange thing is she was 11 or 12 lbs a couple of years ago, 9.4 lbs in the fall and now 7.2 lbs in the spring. She keeps eating, but is losing weight and also vomiting more. We had all bloodwork done in the fall and she has great vitals - all levels fine - in fact, that of a younger cat. I recently went back in to have more bloodwork done on her as she shows all signs of hyperthyroidism, but her levels were normal. No diabetes or other ailments. Vet now suggests abdominal x-rays, etc.
Avatar f tn You can experience episodes of tinnitus, vertigo and progressive hearing loss. Lymphatic channels in the inner ear are dilated and affect the drainage of fluid of the inner ear labyrinth/endolymph. Usually one ear is affected. There is no exact cause why this happens. I was initially diagnosed with this, but after a second opinion it was found that I didn't have it; I have Unresolved Labyrinthitis. So, please make sure the diagnosis is correct.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
616582 tn?1225068601 I woke up one day during a freak warm day in the winter of this year and my foot splashed on the carpet in the basement. We had mold testing and remediation done and had to put new wall and flooring in the basement. My headaches went away after that. I was treated with antibiotics a couple times for sinus infections. Last week I went to the Ear, Nose, and Throat doc and he examined my cat scans and sent a probe up my nose.
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
Avatar f tn My eyes are not constantly red or watery, but is irritating the eye I can feel it and it leaves a crust in the middle of the eye when I sleep. I used an allergy eye drop but it is still there. What should I do please? Does any one have any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??
1232362 tn?1333135406 Aw, your babies are so cute and fun. Just last night I was out back and suddenly Jade comes tearing from the front of the yard to the back and up the apricot tree. Or she'll race from the back of the yard as fast as she can to the back door. To look at her, you'd never dream how fast she is! She's fairly sedate in the house, but sometimes will go at top speed to jump on the table under the front window which unfortunately, is filled with picture frames that get knocked over...
Avatar n tn Today in revisiting and playing with a couple of cats I developed allergies. When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
Avatar m tn Hi allergenic, I just finished reading your comments. You said you were holding a cat the other day, stroking and petting the cat. You also stated you had no asthma. Are you aware that male cats have more dander than female cats. I know this because I had allergies too to several different things. I 'd like to say that your allergies are getting better, but I doubt it. I'm guessing you've had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies.
7165624 tn?1395647767 I have allergies im wondering if i can buy certain pills or what do you do when u get them??
541150 tn?1306033843 When I mentioned my cat Smokey in the post above, it was different in that we had only had Smokey about 6 months and I did not have a special bond with her, not like you have with Abby. I would just be a little cautious in the beginning.
5655568 tn?1371757104 if he is on chicken try beef or venison, chicken is also a huge culprit in allergies because it is the common base of nearly ALL pet foods. I had to switch one of mine to fish for awhile, but fish isn't good to feed long term...but it may be necessary for a trial period if you can't get him to eat something other than chicken....
