Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
Avatar f tn Hello, Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. You can confirm whether you are allergic to cats by getting allergy testing done.Skin tests and blood tests like RAST are done for this purpose.Pls consult an allergist and get them done.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
440120 tn?1211724496 I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.
Avatar n tn Today in revisiting and playing with a couple of cats I developed allergies. When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
7845323 tn?1394873413 Cats won't care as long as you still love them too.
Avatar f tn We kept our three cats when my son was born and my son is fine. As long as you don't let the cats sleep in the cot with the baby or let the baby pull the cats about to the point they attack back, then there is no reason why you should get rid of them. If you don't wanna get rid of them then don't but just watch what there like together.
Avatar f tn I LOVE cats with all my heart but in allergist to them :(((((((((( whenever I'm near them I get hives! My allergies might be getting better but I'm not sure. Also I'm going to be working at a animal shelter soon were I have to be around cats and dogs. So if any1 would know if there something I could do or take besides allergy meds then can u please tell me?
Avatar n tn also to note is that it is possible to be allergic to one cat and not to another. i have allergies to various pets, rabbits definatly... cats and dogs... depends on the pet in question.
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
Avatar n tn Savas is right. Steroids are a "band-aid" treatment. They work temporarily, but only because they set up a false immune system for the body. Once they start to wear off and the body's own immune system kicks back in, the allergies are back in force because the animal's own immune system can't deal with them. Also, while cats tolerate steroids a LOT better than dogs do, eventually they will probably cause diabetes and a host of other problems.
Avatar f tn If you work in a house where the lady owns cats, and now you are itching, you could be. It could also be an allergy to something else that you are exposed to in her house (for example, if doing cleaning, maybe you are allergic to the cleaning product used in that location but nowhere else, or if you were a painter and using a specific product in her house that you don't use elsewhere, it might be the product). Cats have saliva that gives some people a strong allergic reaction.
362249 tn?1441315018 Thats a really great idea I should ask! I dont feel my allergies are severe my SIL has had cats in her house and my allergies were not "killing me" where i couldnt stand it! sometimes i feel the need to get up and wash my hands but nothing too bad!! I do think if I follow the advice online about vacuuming my carpet and maybe getting a humidifier then i would be ok! they say its the dander released into the air that gets you!
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
Avatar m tn ve had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies. Do you have a dog, cat , bunny or hamster as a pet ? Just wondering. Be well.
Avatar m tn I've developed severe allergies since moving in with my girlfriend who has a cat and a dog. So severe that I am constantly sick whenever home, find myself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (asthma - I have an inhaler), and hacking up a lung in the mornings. We've tried vacuuming more and bathing the animals but it being a small town home, living in close quarters, it does not seem to help. Now we are looking at me moving out and starting allergy shots.
5347058 tn?1381188426 sensitive commonly to a preservative or ingredient in dry kibble type food. grain allergies are common in cats and most cat foods are full of unnecessary grains just b/c they are 'cheap' fillers for the manufacturer, they do absolutely nothing for the diet!!! there are some 'grain free' diets on the market that may be a worth a trial. EVO, Wellness and Natures Variety are a few. cats can also suffer from environmental allergies....such as what you decide with your kitty.....
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
Avatar f tn My husband hit 40 and got allergies to grass, horses, cats and tree pollen. He had never had allergies before. The allergist told him it's pretty common for one's reactions to things like that to change in the course of one's life.
Avatar n tn He also coughs just as much at school where there is no animals. I know nothing about allergies so hoping someone could tell me IF it was the cats how long would my son still have the coughing once he was away from the cats? I would think once he was away from the cats his cough would improve within hours if he was allergic?
611067 tn?1458591483 My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.

Avatar f tn Recently my cat has been ripping out his fur a LOT more than normal. He's not grooming, but tearing it right out, and it's now around the hind or inside of his legs. He is around 9 years old, a black cat, neutered, less than obese, and have been giving him (probably) healthier food such as the Wellness Brand seafood dry food and Natural seafood wet food, sometimes giving him Friskies wet food as a reward.
Avatar f tn And is it a simple blood test to determine a thyroid problem in a cat.A friend gave me a cat(Coby , a big loveable black cat) , because she was moving and didn't tell me he had health issues. I have been using ear mite medicine that I got from pet co and went on line and got herbal wormer. but it seems like it is taking forever it's been a month. And Coby gave earmites to my white cat Appollo.
5655568 tn?1371757104 Recently, I noticed that my 10 month of cat has licked/chewed off fur in one particular spot. The spot doesn't seem to be bothering him much, he's just as playful and sweet as always. Whenever I touch it, he doesn't jerk away like it hurts or anything. I only noticed the spot just yesterday, and it wasn't very big. Today, however, I noticed that it was a bit bigger. I don't know if it's dry skin, or he maybe got bitten by something?
168348 tn?1379357075 I remember when I got Abby, my husband was so allergic to him. He almost made me give my kitty away. I never understood why my husband was allergic to Abby ad not his cats. I got a product called Allergy Relief from Cats and it worked so well. I posted about that some time ago on here, see if anyone could help me with that problem. I wasn't going to give up on my cat. Up until today, I still do not know what makes some people become allergic to some cats.
