Avatar f tn I am kind of debating to get rid of them
Avatar m tn two things that i can think of. your brother. or food. if you have had the cat for 5 years and this is the first time it has become an issue you should think about what has changed recently. my cat does the exact same thing but it was a food problem she was allergic to almost every kind of cat food. finally found one she wasnt allergic too and she is fine! but first i would get rid of your brother and see if that is the problem. if its not go to the vet and see what they say. good luck!
326352 tn?1310994295 Well, the advice was to get rid of the cat. However, there are other children involved in this situation. So we are asking if anyone has used any of the allergen neutralizers, tannic acid, special baths... that are available. We're looking to find a good product that will help but not eliminate the situation within our household. So, taking docs advice on getting rid of the cat is not going to happen. Looking for other alternatives. Got any?
Avatar f tn Cant someone else take the cat for a few days for him to see if the cat is having an effect? That may be only way he will find out.
1756384 tn?1312562154 Has your vet (like the one I went to) ever offered to shave your cat during the worst of the shedding season? If you have to get rid of any animals, is there perhaps one that gives you a worse reaction on skin contact than another of your cats? F) Did you have any airborne allergies according to the allergist? Could it be more than one issue going on simultaneously? Also, you mention indoor cats plural.
1116122 tn?1268496794 I have no intention of getting rid of my cat, however, since this is the best my allergies have been around pets in years. Other than Zyrtec, are there allergy shots covered by insurance that I could take, or other allergy medications that are prescription? My insurance company stopped covering Allegra, which was perfect (bummer). Thanks for your help in advance.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure what your cat is like but I know that cats can become very jealous of New babies and cause them harm or even death in retaliation. I think you should watch that cat around the baby or get rid of it.
Avatar f tn I would suggest that you get rid of the cat as far as possible. If not possible then, use reputable allergy avoidance products throughout your home. Wash your hands after having contact with the cat and keep pets out of the bedroom and avoid using carpeting, draperies and upholstered furniture in your home since allergens will collect there. If the symptoms persist then antihistaminics and allergy shots may be needed. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn s mostly annoying now b/c I have no body aches and a cough VERY rarely... I did get a new cat right when all of this started? Is it possible to develop an allergy to animals later in life? Or do I suddenly have new allergies? Any ideas from anyone? I would love to get this over with! Thanks for the help.
365714 tn?1292199108 His allergies were pretty bad. So, here is what I did to stop the situation, since I was going to get rid of my cat, right? I went to the Pet Supermarket and bought (after researching, of course) a product called 'Allergy Relief from Cats'. It isn't cheap, but it works. It is easy to use, and works fast. If you ever find out that you are allergic to your cats, try it, and you'll see how your problems disappear.
5347058 tn?1381188426 Cats absolutely get the same allergies that we humans get. I changed my cat's diet to a grain free diet, but I still end up having to give her 1/4 of an adult Zyrtec tablet whenever her seasonal or dust allergies are bothering her. She still gets weepy eyes or scratches her ears pretty intensely. Benadryl is too intense for cats, as it is for many of us humans. Zyrtec isn't nearly so intense.
Avatar n tn Once in a while one will find its way in the living area and within minutes my cat kills it. A couple months ago my cat started to get bad respirtory problems and died. My doctor told me what happened to my cat and my issues is not caused from the bats. Today I went for an eye exam and the eye doctor told me I have scars on my right eye caused from fungus from bird or bat droppings. Of course Im freaking out and thinking about walking away and giving it to the bank.
Avatar f tn Defintely the right choice to get rid of the cat (coming from someone with two cats and cat allergies), she is too young to have to deal with severe allergies. Do as much prevention with the dust allergies as well and hopefully the severity of the reactions with colds/flu will decrease.
Avatar f tn (( I hate to make her get rid of them although we may end up putting them outside eventually. The only symptoms I am having are bumps that itch. I don't have any trouble with sneezing, runny nose or sore throat. Is there any way they can stay in the house and get my symptoms under control? What steps can I take to keep them in the house? Also would Alegra help with my rash and itching or is that just for sneezing, stuffy nose and stuff like that?
7845323 tn?1394873413 My doctor told me to ignore people telling me to get rid of my cat. He said studies suggests that kids that grow up in farms around animals etc are healthiest, developing strong immune systems. That said, Im going to monitor my cat at all times and not let her be in the nursery or room when baby is napping and so am I. My cat hasnt tried jumping in the crib so Im relieved about that too.
Avatar f tn Cat feces CAN (not all do) contain toxoplasmosis which is why you shouldn't change or touch cat poop. If you have had cats before you'be probably been exposed to it before but pregnant women are more susceptible to toxoplasmosis. As long as you dont change litter or pick up poop, you'll be fine.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar n tn We've had our cat for about 6 months, she's never been outside. We live in a 1 bedroom apt. which means she sleeps in the living room. Our son is about to be born soon, and though we've kept telling ourselves today is the day we kick Toffee out, we just don't have the heart to do it. We've heard cat hair is bad for babies, and thats why we need to get rid of Toffee. Is cat hair really bad, or can Toffee stay? I have no idea what to do with her anymore!
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
Avatar f tn I always suggest people get rid if animals before the baby comes because of possible allergies and situations where the animal could accidentally hurt the baby or vise versa..
Avatar f tn My little MewMew had the same problem and she had fleas that she was highly allergic to....I got the fleas cleared up and her hair grew back. She is also a longhair, but not a ragdoll.... I could not find any fleas on her or in the house, but the vet told me that I should go home and "Pretend Then" that MewMew had fleas, vacumn, get rid of blankets that she slept on and replace with clean bedding and start treating her with Flea Medication.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
Avatar f tn I LOVE cats with all my heart but in allergist to them :(((((((((( whenever I'm near them I get hives! My allergies might be getting better but I'm not sure. Also I'm going to be working at a animal shelter soon were I have to be around cats and dogs. So if any1 would know if there something I could do or take besides allergy meds then can u please tell me?
Avatar n tn My question is, after 2 years of zero progress on the subject, would it be in the best interest to get rid of my cat? The reasons i dont want to get rid of her are because she is very close to our male cat, i've had her for 10 years, and there are so many cats in need of good homes it is hard to find a good match. The reason i consider it is because i fear that she is unhappy. It seems unhealthy to hide away all day.
