1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
Avatar m tn itching ears(if there are NO mites) are caused by allergies...and allergies are caused mainly by grains in the food, change to a GRAIN FREE CANNED food. NO dry food and these symptoms would most likely go away.. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Cats/CAT-Allergies/show/1967931 ps.I DO NOT agree with the so called natural remedies mentioned, these can be ingested when a cat licks themselves and many products like these are dangerous...
681148 tn?1437661591 And, I have allergies myself and sometimes need a touch of steroid to calm down the worst symptoms, so I thought the same thing would apply to the cat--to use the steroid cream temporarily, to calm down the skin inflammation enough for the skin to heal--then use the Benadryl in the manner that the vet told me after that, as it is a gentle antihistamine. She also said to buy some Zyrtec and give Akira 1/4 tablet each day for her allergies.
5347058 tn?1381188426 sensitive commonly to a preservative or ingredient in dry kibble type food. grain allergies are common in cats and most cat foods are full of unnecessary grains just b/c they are 'cheap' fillers for the manufacturer, they do absolutely nothing for the diet!!! there are some 'grain free' diets on the market that may be a worth a trial. EVO, Wellness and Natures Variety are a few. cats can also suffer from environmental allergies....such as what you decide with your kitty.....
Avatar n tn The fat lip also is commonly secondarily infected with bacteria, so I would recommend a 2-3 week course of antibiotics if not already done. The three types of allergies are parasite (fleas, mites), food allergy, and pollen/dust allergies. If your cat is already on a good flea control such as Advantage or Revolution, then parasites are less likely.
Avatar m tn t know why that is impacting his life, but it sounds like the cat has anxiety. Usually if the cat has food allergies, they will scratch around their neck, top of their head and possibly around their face. It could also be allergies from something else, such as fleas, flea bites or dust. This is harder to determine and may have to be discovered by a vet. If they feel that is the reason, they can give the cat a shot that will temporarily relieve the itching for about a month.
Avatar f tn Have you checked the ingredients in your pet food? Did you know corn, wheat and soy are the three biggest culprits as far as food allergies in dogs and cats. Chewing on the paws, licking the feet, itchy, red flakey skin, dull coat, intestinal upset are common symptoms of a food allergy. I would try a Natural Super Premium pet food or an Organic pet food.
Avatar f tn I have a cat that is almost 18 years old. He has always been a scar that hides from everyone. He has been hanging out with us and around the dogs and is really stuffy. He has a lot of snot in his nose, it is hard for him to breathe, he gags and coughs and has runny eyes. My husband just thinks he is old with allergies but I'm concerned. I dissolve his food in water and crush it up and he drinks and eats fine. Not sure what to do? Can I give him something for the allergies?
Avatar n tn Otodectes, Cheyletiella, Scabies, etc, ringworm and other fungal infections, allergies (allergies to food can occur anytime in the life of a cat), bacterial skin infections, endocrine disorders and more. Ringworm, and some mites can be transmitted to people. Frontline does not treat mites. The topical: "Revolution" is for fleas, ticks, ear mites, and scabies, so it might be a good idea to switch to Revolution for a couple of months.
Avatar f tn no this sure isn't normal...usually when there is a loss of fur or 'ripping' out its always due to allergies...the allergies can be inhaled, ingested or environmental. I am assuming the food and litter has remained unchanged. that makes me think its either something in the house your kitty is reacting too....was there a product used to clean the carpets..for instance. Or fleas? flea allergy can also cause this to happen. copy the link below for more info and photos..
1474611 tn?1416632958 and almost ALL the time is due to food allergies, mainly grains in their food.(cheap additives). is your kitty fed dry food? these are the worst for allergies. the best possible advice I can give you is to change to a CANNED food with NO grains...kitty's don't like this very much b/c of course like us they love carbs...so its like going from french fries to broccoli, so you can't do it over night. do a 50/50 mix and gradually have him totally OFF dry carb loaded food.
652407 tn?1300737199 Luckily, this food also works wonders for cats with food allergies, who experience what your cat is going through. The food is Hill’s d/d. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn What kind of allergies does your cat have? If she's allergic to food, you may want to try a natural diet. It's a hassle to deal with raw meat but it pays off, there are recipes for that online. You can make a whole batch and freeze the rest and feed it to her gradually. It's also cheaper than buying cat food. If it's not food allergies, you may want to try a natural(raw) diet anyway- it will raise her immunity and perhaps relieve her allergies.
874521 tn?1424116797 My cat has allergies that cause skin breakouts, I've done the steroid route and this works for awhile, now using a change in food and omega 3's and so far he has only had one small breakout that lasted only 2 days and didn't go on to become open and raw sores. My question is, I've read that sometimes benadryl at .25mg per pound can be successful in cats. Is this also avail in topical form rather than using systemically?
Avatar n tn Food allergies, fleas allergy dermatitis, scabies and other mites are all culprit's for hair loss. Please have your cat examined by a vet.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
326352 tn?1310994295 The daugher with the issues just turned 2, was diagnosed with asthma about 6-8 months ago (does breathing treatments regularly with Albuteral). She was allergy tested yesterday and came up with a 4/5 allergy to cats. She has moderate to severe eczema being treated with topical corticosteriods (Elidel, Elocon, something else) and has now been prescribed what is probably the REST of the list of cortocosteroids by the allergist. We've tried Singular in the past, but it made her mean.
Avatar f tn This type of hair loss is most commonly due to behavioral barbarism, food or environmental allergies, or, mites or fungal skin infections, such as ringworm. If it was due to an a fungal or mite infection other cats in your household would probably be exhibiting symptoms. Please take him to the vet for evaluation. The vet can perform a skin scraping and other diagnostic tests. If it is truly behavioral, there are excellent behavioral modification medications that should help.
Avatar m tn Do you have any know food allergies? These can cause the symptoms you mentioned, so can low blood sugar, have you been checked for that. you might want to try a food elimanation diet, meaning start cutting out certain foods one by one and if you start to feel better, then it might be food related. Oh, and also environmental allergies/chemical allergies, your symptoms really sound like this could be a problem.
Avatar f tn Actually its pretty common to have am-staffs and pit bulls with chicken allergies. It started when we first got him. The vet said it was food allergies. We switched his food (which was originally chicken based) and he was okay. Then through experimentation with different foods and such we found he was allergic to beef and pork as well. I had heard that benadryl was okay for dogs once, what sort of dosages and stuff should I try?
541196 tn?1293552936 Your symptoms do not sound like food allergies. Possibly, food intolerance, which effects the digestive system. There are a slew of gastrointestinal diseases that can cause the symptoms you are experiencing (ie:colitis, irritable bowel synsrome, diverticulitis, crohn's disease, and list goes on). Have you to tried an elimination diet to see what may be causing your symptoms?
Avatar f tn These things made my stomach cramp, constipation, migranes, fatigue, dizzy, cold like symptoms, itching. Yet I had been having these symptoms for many years they said I had IBS. I don't go to the bathroom for many weeks I tried many laxatives my only justice is a sopository. Has anybody had difficulties getting this issue solved like me I'm tired of getting bounced around from specalist to specialist.
Avatar f tn He is around 9 years old, a black cat, neutered, less than obese, and have been giving him (probably) healthier food such as the Wellness Brand seafood dry food and Natural seafood wet food, sometimes giving him Friskies wet food as a reward. Before, his diet was all Whiskas brand, the dry and wet food that were chicken flavoured and the treats that were dairy or chicken too . He has sensitive skin- I can touch his skin very lightly and he'll reflexively try to groom himself.
Avatar m tn No food, no symptoms. I can drink straight sugar drinks all day long, no headaches Now its possible the milk allergy is not related.. I had horrible acne in highschool, so bad I had to be put on accutane.. Since I stopped the dairy, my acne has disappeared.. Im not asking for a miracle diagnosis, but I need some incite as to what tests to recommend to the next doctor. Im ditching my current gastro doctor, he obviously does not understand the serverity of the situation..
Avatar m tn Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
